We begin with a question that seems almost too obvious to ask: is 2+2=4 really true? In everyday life it feels immediate—two apples and two apples make four apples. But mathematics asks a deeper question: how do we actually know something is true? One way is through proof. A proof starts from a few basic statements and rules, and step by step derives a new statement from them. The key challenge, then, is choosing the right starting points. Mathematicians eventually chose sets—simple collections of objects—as the most fundamental building blocks. From a few basic assumptions about sets, we can define numbers, define addition, and gradually build the entire structure of mathematics. Even a statement as simple as 2+2=4 can therefore be derived from these basic principles. In this session we will not focus on technical details, but on understanding the overall structure of the idea. The reasoning can be followed in simple terms, even by non-mathematicians, and it reveals something remarkable: from a small number of simple starting points, an enormous world of mathematical knowledge can be built. Along the way, we will also look at the historical path that led to this view—how mathematicians gradually refined these ideas over centuries in an intellectual quest to understand the foundations of mathematics. Perdida en la mezcla de impresionantes pliegues de sedimentos modelados por el movimiento tectónico y pulidos por la acción erosiva del agua, la serra de Santa Fe sabe que la altitud no es el único modo de destacar. Su punta oriental, coronada por la ermita con el mismo nombre, sobresale bella y firme como la proa de un barco cortando el mar a su alrededor. Cambios brutales de vegetación de una vertiente a la otra, flores de mil colores y rapaces sobrevolando nuestros caminos. No era el típico escultor de academia desde joven. De hecho, heredó el oficio de su padre: **era afinador de pianos**. Esta sensibilidad por la armonía y el sonido la trasladó más tarde a las formas. (English below) Practicar yôga puede ser muy chulo por qué entrenas una combinación de cuerpo físico, emociones, pensamientos y ese “algo más” que todos tenemos/ somos. Esta clase es un poco especial por qué este grupo normalmente es para mejorar tu español. Como algunos ya sabeis, mi hobbie serio es el yôga, hace años que lo practico y tambien tengo formación como instructor, así que por que no proponer una buena clase de domingo? Será en castellano y te puedo ayudar con inglés tambien. Esta vez entrenaremos técnicas de respiración, de meditación, ásanas y otras técnicas. El ambiente es informal, para todos los niveles, relajado y con sentido del humor. También hay momentos más introspectivos. Lo más importante es que tú mismo/a notes el antes y el después de la clase. El espacio donde quedamos es muy chulo, está a 100 metros de Las Ramblas, de Drassanes o de Liceu en la linea verde. Empezamos puntuales a las 11h. Llega unos minutos antes para disfrutar con calma. Para participar hay una contribución de solo 10€ por persona (efectivo, Bizum, Revolut..) SI ya tienes algún pack de 4 x 30€ de las clases de conversación, puedes participar en esta tambien (cuenta como 1 clase) El plan después de clase es ir a picar algo (opcional) al Honest Greens de Las Ramblas o a otro lugar cerca. This class is a little special because in this group we usually do conversation classes to improve your Spanish. As some of you already know, yôga is a serious hobby for me. I've been practicing it for years and I'm also a certified instructor, so why not offer a feel-good sunday class? It will be in Spanish, and I can help you with English as well. This time we'll practice breathing techniques, meditation, asanas, and other techniques. The atmosphere is informal, relaxed, suitable for all levels, and with a sense of humor. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM. It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter.
