Discuss & Social ๐Ÿท Is Reddit legit? Collective wisdom vs echo chamber of geeks
Many say that online forums like Reddit represent the wisdom of the crowds. AI models now use it to learn and emulate how humans think and speak. Yet they have a history of misinformation, biased opinions and echo chambers. Reddit's audience is disproportionately male (estimated \~67% of active contributors and \~75% of moderators in the UK) and its voting system discourages sharing unpopular views. We'll discuss... 1\. The pros/cons of relying on platforms like Reddit\, and of giving them more visibility in our daily life and popular culture\. 2\. What happens if AI believes that all humans think like Redditors? 3\. Can any online forum system foster genuine exchange and diverse perspectives? *Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore the real life, the grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to learn how others see it.* **\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society - with warm social vibes before and after.\*** **WHAT TO EXPECT:** * Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange. * We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!) * The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30. * ๐Ÿ• There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options) * And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling! **DISCUSSION FORMAT:** **\- Our group conversations are open and flexible\! There is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the key questions\, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak\.** \- We rotate groups intentionally during the discussion so everyone gets to meet a wider mix of people and perspectives\. \- After the structured part\, youโ€™re free to mix and mingle with anyone\. **Here's a typical discussion structure, but we may adjust this depending on the turnout:** \- Introductions and initial thoughts *(\~5 mins).* \- Group breakouts per question *(\~20 mins x 3).* \- Final round of opinions *(\~10 mins)*. \- Mix and mingle\, make new friends\, get drinks etc *(\~until late)* **Rules & etiquette:** 1\. Debate the topic\, not the participants \- no personal attacks please\. 2\. No phones\, no interrupting\, no bystanding\. 3\. Always follow the moderator/host instructions and guidelines\. **WHAT IS WORLD CITIZENS?** We're one of London's longest-running and largest communities. Since 2012 we run socials, cultural activities and stimulating discussions to foster meaningful exchange and learning among London's global professionals. They are inspired by MUN (Model United Nations) and salon discussions and offer a more relaxed and social evening version. **LOCATION DETAILS** What: Discussion session followed by social/networking When: Tuesday, 7:30pm until late. Where: Curzon Aldgate (bar area), 2 Canter Way, E1 8PS Closest stations: Aldgate East, Aldgate, Tower Hill/Gateway Cost: Pay for your own meals or drinks Hosts: We have a rotating team and the actual host of each event varies. Our regular members can also help you out with basic matters. *NOTE: like most guests, our volunteer hosts join after work and may arrive after the start time. If you are punctual or earlier than our hosts, we highly appreciate this! Please feel free to start socializing already and/or get something to eat or drink - thatโ€™s the point of our events anyway! Our regular members can also help you out with any basic matters.* **\*Our other weekly events\*** \- Friday evening socials every week \- Saturday afternoon cafe in Chelsea \- Canary Wharf socials every other Wednesday \- Outdoor fun \(hiking\, kayaking\, etc\) every weekend \- Dining\, cultural and travel activities on\-demand **JOIN OUR TEAM!** We're all volunteers, so if you enjoy organizing activities or events in your spare time, while meeting great people every week, send a message to our team account "TP"! **DISCLAIMER** We are a 100% volunteer-run team. freeCodeCamp x Encode | AI - Workshop: Demystifying OpenClaw, the New AI Agent
freeCodeCamp x Encode | AI - Workshop: Demystifying OpenClaw, the New AI Agent
# Beginners Hands-On Workshop: Breaking Down OpenClaw: From Minimal Installation Mode to Full-Featured Installation Mode w/ Your Own Custom Skills & More... **Registration to this event is only valid through the Luma platform:** [https://luma.com/it7a6h53?utm_source=meetup-dot-com](https://luma.com/it7a6h53?utm_source=meetup-dot-com) Hello code campers! Since **OpenClaw**, both as a project and as a tech movement, is growing, and since there is so much happening in this space, we've decided to dedicate the next **FreeCodeCamp \| AI** almost entirely to **OpenClaw,** especially following the success of the previous event. This is quite relevant since AI is moving soooo fast nowadays, making everyone scratch their heads confused while making some feel overwhelmed or have a small sensation of AI news fatigue. We will try to break down what this whole project is all about and whether or not all the hyperbolic statements about what this system can do are true. The aim for this workshop is to go through the setup process (it will hopefully take less time compared to last time because the maintainers of this project are constantly improving things), focusing on how to install the agent not only locally (virtualised, of course) but also in the cloud. We will probably look at AWS and GCP with the caveat: if you have your own server, which we encourage you to look into, the same will apply. This will be our **6th** event in our series of **local-first, open-source** AI events; therefore, we will try to focus on building a setup that doesn't depend on Big Tech but on smaller open-source tech instead. People who already have OpenClaw installed will be guided to customise it to use local LLMs or at least privacy-first cloud-based AI systems (that is because an individual's private ideas and personal project are their personal moat). At the end, we will be looking at what **SKILLS** are in the context of agents, how to build them, and if we have time, we will look at use cases for OpenClaw or, alternatively, look at emerging open-source AI agent toolkits like Pi. This workshop is open to all levels, from beginners to experts. Bring your laptop (make sure it's fully charged as local LLMs tend to be power-hungry), and don't forget to bring your coding gear (hoodie). This workshop will be accompanied by a guest speaker (full details TBA). *** ## Prerequisite First and foremost**, VERY IMPORTANT**, a VM (Virtual Machine) system like Docker/UTM for MacOs or WSL for Windows. Lastly, a local install of Ollama / LMStudio (but if you don't have any of that, don't worry, come a bit early and we will help set you up). If you want to take a quick look at the slides from the previous events fell free to do so: [https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-01/](https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-01/) (Ollama); [https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-02/](https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-02/) (LangFlow, not really related but still) [https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-03/](https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-03/) (private RAG w/ Anything LLM) [https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-04/](https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-04/) (AI-native browsers) [https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-05/](https://andysign.github.io/ai-london-02/https://github.com/andysign/ai-london-05) (OpenClaw basics) *** ## Agenda for the evening (Subject to change) **18:00 - 18:30 Arrival and networking** Mingle with fellow developers over refreshments. **18:30 - 18:45 Introductions (What is Local-First?)** Intro and a bit of audience engagement **18:45 - 19:40 Workshop** โ€‹Hands-on technical workshop (if you are non-technical it's OK, tag along). **19:45 - 20:15 Guest Speaker (TBA)** **20:15 - 21:00 Networking** **21:00 - Closing remarks and follow-up** **END:** Carry on the fun at a nearby pub which is right @ the corner. *** ## Event Venue We'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to **Encode Club**. [Encode Club ](http://encode.club)has spent over five years fostering a global community of developers, researchers, and founders in Web3, AI, and emerging technologies. The [Encode Hub](http://hub.encode.club) brings everything together under one roof, providing a dedicated environment for collaboration and innovation through meetups, co-working, and in-person events.

Use this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85031832141?pwd=7Sa7wy8KlHqPhKxYQUl42uCsf8YawO.1 **Opening Talk:** Luisa will demo a sassy AI-powered plant built in FastAPI using GPT-4o to explore personality, dialogue design, and human-AI interaction. **Main Talk:** What about using certain CLIs puts a smile on your face and gets you telling all your friends and colleagues about it? The Unix philosophy emphasizes simplicity, modularity, and the idea that programs should do one thing well and work together. However, CLI programs are primarily used by humans. Programs that you actually enjoy using can achieve both of these aims of composability and human-centeredness. This talk explores what makes CLIs great: fast, trusted, and delightful. Through real-world examples from modern tools like uv, cargo, ripgrep, and GitHub CLI, you'll learn the design patterns that separate good CLIs from great ones. Whether you're building package managers, creating developer tools, or just curious why modern CLIs feel so much better, you'll leave with a practical checklist of techniques to apply to any CLI tool you build. **Agenda:** 7:00pm - Opening announcements 7:10pm - Opening Topic - Build an AI-powered, Sassy Speaking Plant 7:25pm - Main Topic - Designing Delightful CLIs with Python 7:50pm - Q&A
