March Book Club: The Overstory by Richard Powers
Hi everyone, in March for our Spring/ nature theme weāll be reading The Overstory. Synopsis below:
** WINNER OF THE PULITZER PRIZE FOR FICTION 2019 **
'It changed how I thought about the Earth and our place in it' Barack Obama
'Really, just one of the best novels, period' Ann Patchett
A wondrous, exhilarating novel about nine strangers brought together by an unfolding natural catastrophe. The perfect literary escape.
An artist inherits a hundred years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light. A hearing- and speech-impaired scientist discovers that trees are communicating with one another. An Air Force crewmember in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan.
This is the story of these and five other strangers, each summoned in different ways by the natural world, who are brought together in a last stand to save it from catastrophe.
'It's not possible for Powers to write an uninteresting book' Margaret Atwood
'Radical and exciting' Jessie Burton
'Breathtaking' Barbara Kingsolver

āļø FRIEND OF DOROTHY KINK-INSPIRED LIFE DRAWING
DRAW TOGETHER. MEET GAY MEN. MAKE FRIENDS.
-
This Friend of Dorothy event is about bringing gay men together in real life to connect, create and build genuine friendships.
Join us after-hours at a London fetish store in the heart of Soho for a two-hour guided life-drawing session that blends creative expression with a relaxed, social atmosphere. Featuring a series of gay fetish and kink-inspired poses, the class offers a unique opportunity to explore form, movement and aesthetic in an artistic setting.
The workshop is designed to be welcoming, body-positive and beginner-friendly, whether youāre picking up charcoal for the first time or looking to develop your drawing skills. With a small group of up to 15 people, the evening naturally creates space for conversation, creativity and connection.
These events arenāt just about the activity, theyāre about creating spaces where gay men can meet new people, share experiences and feel part of a community. With a shared creative focus and relaxed pace, it becomes easy to chat, laugh and get to know the people around you.
Expect a series of kink-inspired poses, a relaxed atmosphere and a focus on artistic expression rather than explicit content.
All materials are provided (drawing boards, paper, pencils, charcoal and erasers), though youāre welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Please note: the workshop takes place in the storeās basement and is accessible by stairs only, unfortunately there is no wheelchair access.
Come for the creativity.
Stay for the conversation.
Leave inspired and a little more connected.
-
Everyone attending will also receive FREE Cum Gummies and Muscle Gummies, courtesy of Friend of Dorothy Wellness.
All profits from ticket sales will be donated to Impulse London, supporting their work promoting sexual health and wellbeing within the gay community.
*Many events are available at up to **75% off** when booked through the **Friend of Dorothy app**, with proceeds supporting LGBTQ+ charities.*

Make New Friends At A Bookshop
Do you want to meet new people in a relaxing chill atmosphere surrounded by new books? Do you dislike loud and smelly places like pubs and clubs? This is the event for you.
Science and Philosophy Book Club is creating a new kind of meetup where people who love books and knowledge can meet new friends in a big book shop. We will explore around different sections of the book shop together as a group while making interesting conversations with each other. We will go to both fiction and non-fiction areas.
If you feel shy and feel nervous to come alone, I will make sure you will feel comfortable and accomodate to your needs. I will help introduce you to others so you can go over the barrier of anxiety when approaching a new person.
We will meet on the ground floor lounge area of Doubletree Hilton Hotel at 6 p.m. It is an amazing cosy bar with classy vibes. We will wait for everyone to show up while getting some drinks and socializing. At 7 p.m we will head to the Waterstones book store near Russel Square and UCL. After we explore the book store, we will come back to the hotel bar and stay there for the rest of the night.
This event requires £5 donation to cover the venue fees. You can pay via cash or card. Thank you for helping the book club!
Queer Spirit Full Moon Drum Circle
Radical Faeries and Queer Spirits gather at the Circle a few days before the Equinox Full Moon to greet the arrival of Spring. Here's our chance to cast spells for the spring and summer seasons - equinox offers us BALANCE, perspective and a shift of gear from the inward focused winter energy into the more active, outward half of the year.
We gather from 7 to set up the space and greet each other, cast a circle at 8pm then we drum, dance, socialise and play through the evening.
There's lots of drums and percussion to share around, you are welcome to bring your own instruments too, your own refreshments and maybe snacks to share.

Bad Girls Book Club April 2026
**Our April novel is: *The Hong Kong Widow* by Kristen Loesch**
**This monthās novel blends gothic atmosphere with historical fiction and chilling horror, set against the haunting backdrop of China. The book is 368 pages in print and 10 hours and 42 minutes on audiobook.**
In 1950s Hong Kong, Mei is a young refugee of the Chinese Communist revolution struggling to put her past in Shanghai behind her. When she receives a shocking invitationāto take part in a competition in one of the city's most notorious haunted houses, pitting six spirit mediums against one another in a series of six sĆ©ances over six nights, until a single winner emergesāshe has every reason to refuse.
Except that the hostess, a former Shanghainese silent film star, is none other than the wife of the man who once destroyed Meiās entire life.
It is promised the winner will receive a fortune, but there is only one prize Mei wants: revenge.
Decades later, the final night of that competition has become an infamous urban legend: The police were called to the scene of a brutal massacre but found no evidence, dismissing it as a collective hallucination. Mei knows what she saw, but now someone else is convinced they know what she did. She must uncover the truth about the last night she ever spent in that houseāeven if the ghosts of her past are waiting for her there. . . .
