Evening fast walk around the monuments on the National Mall.
Evening fast walk around the monuments on the National Mall.
We will start at the bathroom temple on 15th st- Due east (towards capital) from Washington monument. WASHINGTON LODGE. We will visit some of the lesser known spots as well as the usual highlights. This is an easy, though fast, walk around the mall. Route varies, but walk may include Washington monument, Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, MLK memorial, tidal basin, Signers memorial, and my favorite, the Roosevelt memorial. Many people feel that the mall is at its most beautiful at night with the monuments lit. We walk fast, this is not a stroll. This is a walk- not a sightseeing tour. We stop very briefly, if at all, at the monuments, then move on. Where to Meet: bathroom temple on 15th st- Due east (towards capital) from Washington monument. We leave 6:15 sharp. Please be a few minutes early. Difficulty: Easy, although we do walk fast. If you can’t stay with the group I assume you can find your way back on your own. Distance: 5-6 miles Duration: 1.5 hr Scenery: National monuments, tourists, geese, pigeons. Trail surface: Some gravel, paving, some mud. Facilities: There are rest room facilities at various spots, we will stop as needed. Park Fees: none Elevation Gain: 4 feet Dogs: No Metro: Smithsonian stop. Blue, Silver, Orange lines. There tends to be metered parking on Jefferson drive that opens up right at 6. Bringing a flashlight can be helpful. National Guard and other visitors to our capital are welcome.

Wednesday Crystal City Run: 50 min
Wednesday Crystal City Run: 50 min
For the Wednesday run, let's meet at 1750 Crystal Dr (Entrance by Morton's Steakhouse) before walking over to the Crystal City Water Park and run on the Mt. Vernon Trail alongside the scenic Potomac River. LOCATION: Meet at 1750 Crystal Dr (Entrance by Morton's Steakhouse). Link to location on map: http://i.imgur.com/3yN0lwN.jpg NOTES: Photos taken during the event may end up on Instagram, Meetup, Strava and similar platforms. Let's meet at 6:50 PM, leaving by 7:00 PM. We will do 50 minutes, so 25 minutes out and 25 minutes back. You're welcome to do more if you'd like. Just before the run we decide whether we'll go NORTH (DC) or SOUTH (Old Town) on the trail. Once we're done, we meet back up at the Crystal City Water Park area. After the run please feel free to hangout and socialize with the group or join us at Highline RxR in Crystal City (National Landing) for a beverage and/or food. https://g.co/kgs/AErMQZ All paces are welcome! We run by time, not speed so bring a watch to monitor your time and turn around at the halfway time point. If you need to run/walk, that's ok! We average anywhere between 7-13 minute/per mile pace. First Time? Start out slow to find someone around your pace. The different paces tend to automatically gather, so you won't be alone! Metro: Crystal City on Blue/Yellow lines, 2 blocks from metro exit. Parking: There is plenty of free parking inside the garage directly across from the Crystal City Water Park. Post-Run: A lot of times we have a little social outing after the run. You can bring a change of clothes if you'd like (though most people just go as is). We'll finish up the run, meet back at the Water Park, pick up our wallets and walk to wherever we decided to go for a beverage and/or food. If you have a suggestion for a place to check out, let us know!
Monthly Meetings
Monthly Meetings
The Rockville Bike Advisory Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month from 7 pm to 9 pm. Are you a bike enthusiast? Are you interested in the bikeways in Rockville? Would you like to see more trails or bike lanes? Would you like to make a difference on how the bikeways are maintained? Then join RBAC! Since its creation, our volunteer committee has held regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year, carried out its mandated tasks, and has become an important and valuable resource to the City on bicycling issues. The active participation of the RBAC is vital to Rockville's continued success in implementing the Bikeway Master Plan Update and in improving conditions for bicycling in the City. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D67FY8yFuU8&list=UUcfUJA6KhJVfIXr54S9us3Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D67FY8yFuU8&list=UUcfUJA6KhJVfIXr54S9us3Q) In 2019, the Rockville Mayor and City Council adopted a complete streets policy (to provide facilities that serve all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and motorists) and in 2018 they adopted a Vision Zero resolution (to reduce traffic-related deaths to zero by 2030). RBAC members are working with the City to help with these goals and serve as liaisons to interested residents. **RBAC's Mission** ([http://www.rockvillemd.gov/index.aspx?nid=327](http://www.rockvillemd.gov/index.aspx?nid=327)): The committee's mandate for action includes the following tasks: •Assist in the development of the City's bicycle and pedestrian specific policies, as well as other policies that affect the conditions for bicycling in the City; •Oversee the implementation of the City’s Bikeway Master Plan Update and report progress toward completion to the Mayor and City Council; •Review current and proposed CIP projects to ensure bicycle needs are incorporated into design and construction when appropriate; and •Deliver updates on the needs and desires of bicyclists in the community, with recommendations for action to the Mayor and City Council.
