Mar. 15th at 15:30.** We are super looking forward to hearing your pitches and watching you meet people ready to help you make your films a reality in the really real world! 📍The event is located at **House of Music** in RAW Gelande, Revalerstr 99, 10245 Berlin . The event is on the ground floor, by the bar. This is a very large and amazing space that we are now calling home. Please note that this is **a free event**. In order to support the work we do, our community, and the lovely space that is gracious enough to let us hold events there, **All we ask is that that you have 2 drinks** of some kind. For those who are new, our Pitch and Planning Session is a monthly English language event held here in Berlin for people who have an idea for a film and would like to pitch it, as well as those people who are eager to work on films. It's all about getting films made. If you have a film idea that is burning a hole in your brain, tell the people in the audience your story idea and hopefully you will meet people who can help you make your idea into a reality! This event is also for people who want to help out in all aspects of filmmaking to help make these pitches happen. So if your passion is camera, sound, hair and makeup, writing, lighting, fighting, or anything that could help, you are always welcome. Whether you're new to filmmaking or experienced and want to work on something cool and creative, no matter what your area of expertise/interest is, this is for you! Be sure to show up to either pitch your idea or be ready to listen to some interesting pitches from excited people and potentially help someone make their film. Let's make some cool shit! If you still want more information you can head on over to our website: *https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/pitch_and_planning/* I have been a part of making some of these pitched projects into real world movies and I have always had a blast.
Reading Shakespeare Socratically (The Merchant of Venice Acts 1 & 2)
Reading Shakespeare Socratically (The Merchant of Venice Acts 1 & 2)
New members are always welcome. It's ok to have missed any or all of the sessions involving other plays. Current Reading: **The Merchant of Venice Acts 1 & 2** Completed Plays: Julius Caesar, The Winter's Tale GUIDELINES: ***Participants should complete the reading before each session. It's no problem not to have understood everything, but without some familiarity with the text prior to meeting it will be difficult to have a conversation.*** ***Also, it's not necessary that English be your first language in order to join, but your command and understanding of English should be that you're able to participate confidently in discussions about ideas, feelings, and abstract things.*** **"Reading Shakespeare Socratically?"** \-\- This means we'll put questions to the text and try to make it speak\, as though it is a living person and we are its interlocutor\. We'll ask it questions about what the text has said and then try to find answers\. Mostly\, this just means having a discussion amongst ourselves but there are a few guidelines that\, in my experience\, have proven immensely helpful to having a substantial conversation: **#1** Avoid Outside Sources; interpretations you read on the internet about what the play really means, academic papers/lectures (unless they are your own), personal stories/anecdotes, biographically-driven analysis of the text, interpolations about Shakespeare's personality, facts about Shakespeare's life., etc. **#2** Try to ground what you say in the text -- it's not necessary to quote something every time you speak, but referencing passages, etc. will create great conversation. **#3** Be conscious of your own speaking time. If there are 10 people and 120 minutes of event time, then people have roughly 12 minutes each to speak. Nobody will keep track, but it' a good reference point to keep in mind. We also strive to practice [the principle of charity when considering another's point of view.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_charity) **My Role/About Me:** I will moderate the discussion and begin each session by asking an opening question that should serve as a point-of-entry into the text. I don't posit myself as an expert or authority. Nor do I claim to have the "right" answers, but I do have a lot of experience participating in such discussions and a solid background in reading Shakespeare. This is a free event.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Secrets of Runes
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Secrets of Runes
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The Secrets of Runes,”** on the origins, development, and interpretation of the runic script, with Lilla Kopár, runologist and a professor of medieval literature and culture at Catholic University. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-rune-secrets](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-rune-secrets) .] The fame of runes outshines that of any other ancient script. They can be found not just on Viking Age rune stones, but on Bilbo’s door and as the Bluetooth logo on your cell phone. Runic script is commonly associated with magic, used by modern practitioners of neopaganism, and in recent decades has captured the imagination of filmmakers and video game designers. Yet most of us know little about the historical origins of runes and have no clue how to read or use them. Come to Crooked Run Fermentation in Sterling, Va., to get schooled on runic script with the help of Lilla Kopár, a veteran scholar of runes who has earned a following among Profs and Pints fans by giving fantastic talks on medieval monsters and Norse mythology. As someone who has carried out extensive field research on runes, published several articles on runic objects, and even appeared on the History Channel commenting on runes in America, she’s exceptionally qualified to introduce you to runology and the fascinating things that runes tell us. Dr Kopár will discuss the development of runic script from its humble origins on the borders of the Roman Empire in the first or second century CE, through its popularity in the Viking world, to its use and misuse in modern times. She’ll discuss how runes are a set of related alphabets that underwent changes over time and she’ll describe what inspired changes in this writing system and where and how runes were used in the medieval period. Her richly illustrated talk will highlight some of the most intriguing objects with runic inscriptions, from humble bone fragments to impressive rune stones, and offer insight into the scholarly methods of deciphering and interpreting runic inscriptions. We’ll also look at the function of the runic script from simple practical notes and memorial inscriptions to cipher-runes and magic. The most fun might be the in-class assignment, which will involve reading a few runic inscriptions and writing your name and other words in runes. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.) [Agent-Investor Series] How to Build a Client Database Buying 3–10 Deals aYear
[Agent-Investor Series] How to Build a Client Database Buying 3–10 Deals aYear
This training is designed for real estate agents who want to learn how to play the Agent Investor game. The goal of this training is to help you flip your income into ownership. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ **Traditional buyers transact once every 7–10 years. Investors transact 3–10 times a year.** If you want predictable income, consistent deal flow, and a long-term wealth ecosystem, you don’t need more leads—you need a better list: a database of committed investors who buy repeatedly. The Investor Goldmine teaches you how to build, grow, and activate an investor database that becomes your most valuable asset in real estate. Instead of competing for one-time transactions, you position yourself as the Agent Investor—someone who understands strategy, leverage, and wealth building. In this session, you’ll learn the proven systems to build your investor list from scratch, including: * Where to network to meet real investors already buying * A simple “one lunch a week” strategy to build relationships fast * How to use giving and social currency to become the trusted connector * How absentee owners and business owners can become your best investor pipeline * Why community accelerates database growth—even if you don’t run one You’ll also get a clear activation plan to start growing and converting your investor database immediately. Because the model is simple: Build the list. Call the list. Market to the list. And your income becomes repeatable. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ **Did you miss it?** [Watch all GRID Reston event playback on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOTh5kxLLJI1G3VH6Pqhlhu0uTA8yrdpi) ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ **Join the GRID Facebook Community** [Join the online GRID community here](https://www.facebook.com/groups/gridinvestor) to post deals, ask questions, and connect with other investors across the globe.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Hidden Cleopatra
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Hidden Cleopatra
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The Hidden Cleopatra,”** an excavation through myth and slander to uncover the real Egyptian queen, with Jacquelyn Williamson, an Egyptologist and associate professor of archaeology and ancient art at George Mason University. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-hidden-cleopatra2](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-hidden-cleopatra2) .] Depictions of Cleopatra are abundant in popular culture. A long list of painters have depicted her, Marilyn Monroe and Kim Kardashian have posed as her, and Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor famously portrayed her in Hollywood films. At the end of the day, however, what most of us think we know about Cleopatra is wrong, the product of the ancient Rome’s “fake news” and anti-Egypt propaganda. Learn about the real Cleopatra—and how our understanding of her came to be so distorted—with Professor Jacquelyn Williamson, scholar of women and power in ancient Egypt, teacher of courses on ancient Egyptian art and archaeology, and author of *Nefertiti’s Sun Temple: A New Cult Complex at Tell el-Amarna.* Dr. Williamson will walk us through how the first Roman emperor, Octavian, created the distorted image of Cleopatra as seductress that we know today as part of his political scheming to defeat his rival Antony and end the Roman Republic once and for all. Cleopatra has been the subject of debate and controversy ever since. William Shakespeare later relied on ancient Roman sources such as Horace and Plutarch in writing *Antony and Cleopatra*, and his play helped give rise to countless other works offering a distorted picture of her. Professor Williamson argues that “Cleopatra was a human being, like you and I,” and “deserves the dignity of being represented as accurately as possible.” Her efforts to set the record straight have met frustration, however—after being extensively interviewed for the recent Netflix historical docuseries Queen Cleopatra, she concluded that it, too, had missed the mark. You’ll gain a much deeper appreciation of the challenges of researching and accurately depicting the ancient past from Dr. Williamson, who also has taught at Harvard, Brandeis, and the University of California at Berkeley and is involved with an ongoing archaeological investigation of Queen Nefertiti’s sun temple. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)
