The Moral of the Story: Scaling Ethics from Syllabi to Systems
This session interrogates the functional transition of ethical theory from academic discourse to industrial application. By examining the nuances of "on-the-ground" ethics, we will explore the pedagogical and structural methodologies required to move industry stakeholders beyond mere conceptual acknowledgement toward robust ethical activation. We will note the fiction between theoretical normative frameworks and the pragmatic constraints of the private sector. Ultimately, this discussion aims to identify how applied ethics can be effectively institutionalized within modern industry.
About the Speaker:
[Yoelit Lipinsky](https://www.linkedin.com/in/yoelitlipinsky/?originalSubdomain=ca), PhD, is a data ethicist at TELUS and has extensive experience in clinical ethics, including a position as a clinical ethicist at Providence Health Care. With a PhD in Healthcare Ethics from Duquesne University, her research focused on Catholic and Jewish bioethics. Previous roles include serving as a Mitacs Accelerate Postdoctoral Fellow in Ethics and Consent at The University of British Columbia, and as a clinical ethics fellow with the Provincial Health Services Authority and Providence Health Care. Yoelit also gained foundational experience as a clinical ethics student at Duquesne University, UPMC Mercy, and Squirrel Hill Health Center.

About the Centre for Ethics (http://ethics.utoronto.ca):
The Centre for Ethics is an interdisciplinary centre aimed at advancing research and teaching in the field of ethics, broadly defined. The Centre seeks to bring together the theoretical and practical knowledge of diverse scholars, students, public servants and social leaders in order to increase understanding of the ethical dimensions of individual, social, and political life.
In pursuit of its interdisciplinary mission, the Centre fosters lines of inquiry such as (1) foundations of ethics, which encompasses the history of ethics and core concepts in the philosophical study of ethics; (2) ethics in action, which relates theory to practice in key domains of social life, including bioethics, business ethics, and ethics in the public sphere; and (3) ethics in translation, which draws upon the rich multiculturalism of the City of Toronto and addresses the ethics of multicultural societies, ethical discourse across religious and cultural boundaries, and the ethics of international society.
The Ethics of A.I. Lab at the Centre For Ethics recently appeared on a list of 10 organizations leading the way in ethical A.I.: https://ocean.sagepub.com/blog/10-organizations-leading-the-way-in-ethical-ai

Confidence in Bloom: How Creativity Builds Confidence
**Confidence in Bloom: How Creativity Builds Confidence**
What happens when creativity becomes an intentional practice?
In this monthâs Confidence Lab, weâll gather at **Petals That Inspire: The Flourish Studio** for an evening exploring the connection between creativity and confidence. How making with our hands, engaging our senses, and allowing space for expression can shift how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible.
Our featured speaker, **Amanda Lorenzetti**, owner of Petals That Inspire, will share how creativity has shaped her own confidence journey and why creative environments play such a powerful role in well-being, resilience, and personal growth. Drawing from her work leading an experience-driven floral studio and a community-centered workforce development program, Amanda will reflect on creativity as both a personal and collective catalyst.
Amanda will also guide us through a **hands-on floral design experience**, creating a fresh arrangement in a wide mouth mason jar. No prior floral experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to engage the process.
This evening is an invitation to slow down, create, and reconnect with the part of yourself that grows through care, attention, and imagination. Youâll leave with a floral arrangement to take home, and a deeper understanding of how confidence can be cultivated through creative practices.
**Featured Speaker: Amanda Lorenzetti**
Amanda Lorenzetti is the owner and founder of [Petals That Inspire](https://www.petalsthatinspire.com/) and The Flourish Studio, a social enterprise florist based in Columbus, Ohio. She brings more than a decade of experience in wedding and event sales, paired with hands-on expertise in floral and event design.
Amandaâs connection to the floral industry began early, spending time alongside her godmother, a professional florist on the East Coast.
After earning her business degree, she returned to her hometown in Connecticut to work as a floral and event designer, blending creative artistry with strong operational and client-focused skills.
In 2020, Amanda returned to the floral industry with a renewed purpose, driven by a desire to build a business rooted in creativity, community impact, and sustainability. During this pivotal time, she founded Petals That Inspireâan innovative floral concept that reimagines the traditional florist model by combining event florals, workshops, and experiential offerings with a mission-centered approach to workforce development.
Today, Petals That Inspire is a thriving social enterprise known for its thoughtful design, educational experiences, and commitment to empowering young adults facing barriers to entry in the workforce. Amanda is deeply passionate about building businesses that are both profitable and purpose-driven, and she leverages her strong business acumen to create a scalable & sustainable model that inspires creativity while giving back to the community.
**What is Confidence Lab?**
Confidence Lab is a monthly community experience for bold, thoughtful leaders building confidence from the inside out. Whether youâre launching a business, leading a team, navigating change, or simply striving to show up more fullyâyou belong here.
Our work demands clarity, courage, and convictionâbut the pace of daily life can erode our sense of self. Confidence Lab creates space to reflect, reconnect, and grow with others doing purpose-driven work.
Itâs designed for entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, creatives, corporate professionals, activists, and anyone ready to lead with authenticity and impact.
***Please note:*** *All are welcome! If cost is a concern, please use promo code PUBLIC to access a free ticketâwe want you to join us.*

Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association:
They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other churchâstate issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEAâs early wins and hard lessons, what weâre seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape â and practical ways to get involved.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Friday night social: Let's go to scene 75!
Weâre heading back to Scene75 on Friday, March 27 for a high-energy night of laser tag, mini golf, go-karts, arcade games, and whatever chaos we decide to get into.
Weâve done this one before and it was a blast â great turnout, tons of laughs, and just the right mix of competition and hanging out. If you missed it last time, this is your shot.
đŻ What to Expect:
Laser tag battles
Mini golf challenges
Go-karts (for those who need speed)
Arcade games & game cards
You can load however much youâd like onto a game card. Most people will probably be good with $15â$30, but itâs totally up to you.
This is a super casual event â show up, jump into whatever looks fun, rotate groups, and hang out. No pressure, no complicated structure. Just a solid Friday night with good people.
Also⌠I havenât hosted in a bit and Iâm making a push to be more active again. If youâve got ideas for future events youâd love to do, bring them. Iâm all ears.
Letâs run it back. đĽ
