Grove Park to Petts Wood
Grove Park to Petts Wood
Dear all, this is an interesting walk with plenty to see, and well worth doing. We will meet at 10.45 am at Grove Park Station, and then walk from there to the Ringway Centre as image above. {You can get to Grove Park Station by train from Cannon Street, Charing Cross, London Bridge and Waterloo East.} My friend is making a dairy and gluten free cake and with a hot drink will charge only £3. After our hot drink and cake we will make our way to Chinbrook Meadows, then through woodland in Elmstead Woods. Our walk will then take us past 2 railway stations, Elmstead Woods, then Chislehurst, along more woodland and river trails and across three railway bridges until we reach Petts Wood, where our walk will end. Walking distance 6 miles. Lunch will be at The Sovereign of The Seas, a Wetherspoons pub, or you can bring our own. From Petts Wood Station you can get trains to Charing Cross,Waterloo East, London Bridge & Victoria stations. Please note: £7 Meetup fee required - please have the right change. In view of some upward slopes and the many steps at the railway bridges, if you have a knee problem or walk slowly, this walk may not be for you. If you need any more information, please ring or text Paul on 07530 675739 – note, this is not a smart phone. [https://www.alittlecup.com/cafe](https://www.alittlecup.com/cafe)

To make sure everyone finds each other smoothly, please follow these simple coordination steps: 1️⃣ **RSVP** Thoughtfully If you’re planning to come, tap “Going.” It helps others feel confident joining and builds momentum before the meetup. Even if you’re 80% sure, RSVP. If your plans change, please update your RSVP so others aren’t expecting your attendance. 2️⃣ **Confirm 2 Hours Before** (Essential) To ensure the meetup runs, please comment on this event page at least 2 hours before the start time: “Confirmed for today 😊” This allows everyone to see, ahead of time, who is actually coming. This avoids anyone showing up uncertain. 3️⃣ **Signal Your Arrival** When you arrive, comment on this event page: “Arrived” + where you’re sitting + what you’re wearing Example: “Arrived. Sitting outside near the entrance. Wearing a black t-shirt.” This ensures everyone can easily find each other. I’m building Just Gutsy so no one has to feel alone on the road — and so anyone who’s still shy to take that first step has a welcoming place to start. 💛

If you follow our [[Resale Process](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf)] and your place is rebooked, we’ll issue a refund. • Toilet Breaks: On the train, at the lunch stop, and at the end pub 📍 **Meeting Point** • Location: Victoria station. Meet between WHSmith (no 34) and Nero Express (no 29) - [MAP](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/StationPhotos/Victoria.jpg) & [photo](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/StationPhotos/VictoriaPhoto.jpg) • Time: Meet 8am, leave 8:20am for the 8:41am train • Return: 7:45pm arrival back in London (you’re committed until then) 🌟 **Trip** **Highlights** • Conquer the **three highest peaks in Surrey** — Box Hill (224m), Leith Hill (294m) & Holmbury Hill (261m) • Hike through the **Surrey Hills AONB**, one of England’s most beautiful landscapes • Walk through **Denbies Wine Estate** — the largest vineyard in England • See the historic **Leith Hill Tower** with its sweeping panoramas • A **superb training hike** for major challenges (Yorkshire Three Peaks, National Three Peaks, Kilimanjaro, Toubkal, Everest Base Camp etc) 🥾 **Hike Description** This is Outdooraholics’ **toughest day hike from London** — a formidable challenge often called the Yorkshire cousins as it rivals the Yorkshire Three Peaks in length and ascent. We take on the three highest points in Surrey: **Box Hill, Holmbury Hill and Leith Hill**, following ancient sandy trails and woodland ridges across the **Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty**. Surrey is the most wooded county in England, and this route showcases its very best trails. Starting from **Holmwood**, our route climbs first to **Leith Hill** (294m), the highest point in the South East of England. Here the summit is crowned by the 18th-century gothic **Leith Hill Tower**, offering some of the most far-reaching views of any of our hikes — south to the sea and the South Downs, and north as far as central London landmarks on a clear day. From there, we continue along sandy trails and woodland ridges to **Holmbury Hill** (261m), where the remains of an Iron Age fort overlook the forested Weald below. Our final peak is the iconic **Box Hill** (224m), renowned for its chalk slopes, sweeping views over the North Downs, and challenging ascents that make it a classic hiking destination close to London. The trail also takes us through the **Denbies Wine Estate**, the largest vineyard in England, before completing our circuit. Due to the length and intensity of the route, we usually do not have time for an end-of-hike pub stop — though if timing allows, we may fit a brief one in. **Toughness (Please Read):** This is a **very tough, long, and hilly hike** with over 700m of total ascent — comparable to climbing "Mount" Snowdon. Expect steep sections, some loose ground, and a short section where you need to use your hands it's so steep. The **pace will average 4.2–4.6 km/h** and **the hike will not be slowed down or cut short.** It is **not suitable for beginners or intermediate hikers**. Only experienced and fit walkers should join. If a participant is unable to keep pace or complete the hike, there are places they can arrange a taxi to leave the hike. If you have any doubts about your ability, we recommend choosing one of our less demanding hikes instead. 🧭 **Guide:** • Leader: [GRAHAM](https://www.outdooraholics.co.uk/MeetTheOutdooraholics.pdf) • Contact (hike day only): 07796 098487 🍽️ **Food:** • Bring a packed lunch and hike snacks, it's a long hike • Pub visit after the hike (drinks optional) 🎒**What to Bring** • Hiking boots/shoes • Water (2 litres minimum) • Packed lunch • Waterproofs (jacket and trousers) • Hat and gloves if cold • Train tickets are arranged – just meet us at the meeting point ⚠️ **Safety** Your guide is a trained hike leader and Outdoor Activity First Aider ❓ **Want to Know More?** • [New to Our Trips?](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/new_to_our_day_hikes.pdf) (perfect for first-timers, answers “what to expect”) • [About Us](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/about_us.pdf) (who Outdooraholics are, credibility, history) • [FAQs](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf) (covers common queries) 📲 **Explore More &** **Stay Connected** [Day hikes list](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/hikesbygrade.pdf) 👣 [Calendar - All trips](https://www.meetup.com/outdooraholics/events/calendar/) 📖 [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/outdooraholics/) 📸 [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Outdooraholics) & [Photos group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics) 📄 **Terms and Conditions** By signing up or attending you agree to our [Terms and Conditions](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/TermsConditionsOutdooraholicsHikingUK.pdf) © Outdooraholics Hiking UK Ltd 2026 E & OE

We pass through woodland areas with vibrant bluebell displays. 📏 **Key Info:** • Distance: 10 miles (16km) • Grading: [Intermediate](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/HikeGradings.pdf) • Ascent: 340m • Hiking time: 4.5 to 5 hours • Cost: £31 (includes guided hike + return train) • Refunds: Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. Here we encounter remarkable landmarks including the quirky duck house — Britain’s smallest Grade II listed building — and the evocative ruins of **Otford Palace**, once a Tudor residence larger than Hampton Court and known as “the lost palace of Henry VIII.” From Otford we join the historic **North Downs Way**, tracing part of the medieval **Pilgrims Way** that itself followed an even older Stone Age track. The path leads to **Otford Mount**, where a Bronze Age barrow crowns the ridge and panoramic views stretch across the valley. Continuing onwards, we cross the nature-rich chalk grassland of **Kemsing Down** and pass by **Otford Manor**, high above the valley, before descending through woodland and fields. Midway, we pause for lunch at a traditional **500-year-old pub**, hidden away in the countryside. Inside, little has changed since the 1960s, giving it a nostalgic charm that feels like stepping back in time. With its rustic character, it makes for a unique and memorable break on our journey. Our adventure ends at a **family-owned vineyard**, where you can sample local Kentish wines with an optional extra - tasting flight and stone-baked pizza. Surrounded by vines and rolling hills, this picturesque stop — complete with a boutique shop selling locally produced gifts — is the perfect finale to a day exploring Kent’s landscapes, history and hidden gems. 🧭 **Guide:** • Leader: [GRAHAM](https://www.outdooraholics.co.uk/MeetTheOutdooraholics.pdf) • Contact (hike day only): 07796 098487 🍽️ **Food:** • Bring a packed lunch • Pub visit after the hike (drinks optional) 🎒**What to Bring** • Hiking boots/shoes • Water (2 litres minimum) • Packed lunch • Waterproofs (jacket and trousers) • Hat and gloves if cold • Train tickets are arranged – just meet us at the meeting point ⚠️ **Safety** Your guide is a trained hike leader and Outdoor Activity First Aider ❓ **Want to Know More?** • [New to Our Trips?](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/new_to_our_day_hikes.pdf) (perfect for first-timers, answers “what to expect”) • [About Us](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/about_us.pdf) (who Outdooraholics are, credibility, history) • [FAQs](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf) (covers common queries) 📲 **Explore More &** **Stay Connected** [Day hikes list](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/hikesbygrade.pdf) 👣 [Calendar - All trips](https://www.meetup.com/outdooraholics/events/calendar/) 📖 [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/outdooraholics/) 📸 [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Outdooraholics) & [Photos group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics) 📄 **Terms and Conditions** By signing up or attending you agree to our [Terms and Conditions](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/TermsConditionsOutdooraholicsHikingUK.pdf) © Outdooraholics Hiking UK Ltd 2026 E & OE
Petersfield to Liphook - Hampshire's delights
Petersfield to Liphook - Hampshire's delights
**SUMMARY (all info is approximate!)** **Distance**: 21km (13 miles) **Duration**: 6-7 hours walking **Grade**: Moderate **HIGHLIGHTS** * great views from Shoulder of Mutton Hill * forests coming into bloom * bluebells, spring flowers * forlorn paths * weird and wonderful moreland on Longmore Common * Sussex Border Path & budding rhododendrons, * country pubs for refreshments. We'll start our walk in Petersfield and head north to follow part of the 34 km (21 mile) Hangers Way - a long distance path less travelled within an area of outstanding natural beauty. The countryside around here is unspoilt and forlorn, and we'll meet only a few locals out for a walk with their dogs. In our first hour, we will be rewarded with fantastic views from Shoulder of Mutton Hill as we continue through forested slopes and over open fields towards Liss and then onto Liphook via a nice lunchtime pub stop (for drinks only). After Liss, we will walk down Shipwrights Way to Longmore and Weavers Down, an army managed access land which is eerily remote and wild with a range of different flora, shrubs and trees. We will then walk on the Sussex Border Path and continue to Liphook, where we will reward ourselves with a pub stop. This will be English countryside in its quintessential beauty and at its best – with budding wild flowers and maybe some wild rhododendrons - as well experiencing Longmore Common which feels like walking over Scottish moreland. **COST AND LOGISTICS** **Cost**: £10 **Start**: 8.35 Meet for a group save ticket **Meet:** 8:45 for those who buy their own tickets & walk to train **Finish:** 5.30/6pm for an optional pub visit. **Recommended morning train from London** **Dep**: 09:00 London Waterloo **Arr:** 10.05 Petersfield **Return** **trains:** 18.20, 19.20 **Recommended train ticket** Off-Peak Day Return to Petersfield · **£25.75 group save/ network rail price** Recommended: Buy a yearly Network Railcard for reduced train prices www.network-railcard.co.uk **Meeting Point:** Waterloo Station - In front of Information Desk by the big Pret **REVIEWS** [Trip Advisor](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g186338-d19994843-Reviews-AAA_Hiking_Outdoor_Group-London_England.html) \| [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/AAAHikingUK/reviews) \| [MeetUp](https://www.meetup.com/aaa-outdoor-hiking-adventure-travel/feedback-overview/) **PRICE INCLUDES** · Guided hike planned and led by an experienced AAA leader, trained in Outdoor First Aid. **PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE** · Travel costs · Lunch, drinks or any refreshments · PayPal fees **RECOMMENDED KIT LIST** [(](https://mailchi.mp/aaalondongroup.com/kitlist)complete list[)](https://mailchi.mp/aaalondongroup.com/kitlist) · Suitable hiking shoes or boots · Packed lunch and snacks · Water - 2 litres recommended · Waterproof jacket and trousers (Please no jeans!) · Warm windproof layer e.g. Down/Primaloft/Fleece · Wicking base layer e.g. Polyester/Tencel/Merino **CANCELLING/REFUNDS** If you can no longer join the hike, please message the Host listed on here, and update your RSVP status to 'Not going', to allow others to take your place. Hike Blacklick Woods and The Canopy. Optional lunch after.
Hike Blacklick Woods and The Canopy. Optional lunch after.
**Over time I'm hoping to organize a hike to all the Franklin County Metro Parks. This is the first one so if you're interested jump in!** **We'll start with the Canopy Walk, a cool feature of this park. Climb 100 stairs to the top - or take the elevator if stairs aren't your thing. At the top there are a bunch of things to play on - a rope bridge, a fireman pole that we can slide down - and more! About fifteen minutes there and we'll head to the natural trail, Buttonbush, Maple and Beech Trail for 2.2 miles then do a 1.7 mile loop on the paved Greenway Trail. We'll be passing our cars as we transition if you only want to do the first loop, or the second loop. Pace of around 3.5 mph but no one left behind.** **If there is an interest we can grab lunch nearby afterward at Prost Beer and Wine Cafe. Www.prostcafe.com**
