Board, card & dice games night at my place or The George (depending on numbers)
Board, card & dice games night at my place or The George (depending on numbers)
Hi everyone! (pre-pandemic information) If you like to play modern board, card and dice games, and to meet new people, then join us on Monday evenings from 6pm until the pub closes around 11pm. Feel free to bring your own games if you have them, but don't worry if you don't as regular members will bring some along. And of course, we'll teach you how to play them if you don't know already. You work late? No worries - you can join us any time before closing (11pm), so if you don't arrive at 6pm (attendees tend to arrive around 6:30 or 7pm), don't worry :-) Everyone comes and goes when they like, so it is possible that you may be the first to arrive or the last to leave, Please write in the comments what time you expect to arrive at the pub, so we can try to avoid anyone having to wait alone for long. We are a relaxed and friendly group, made up of both natives and foreigners, of locals and those living further afield, happy to welcome newbies and regulars. Events are free to attend, but it is respectable to the public venues we hold them at if you can buy at least one drink or some food while you are present, just like anyone else at the pub would do. If you would like to contribute towards the costs of running of this group, feel free to buy the host(s) a drink of their choice when you see them, for which they'd be very grateful. This saves money that can be put towards the Meetup subscription fees and buying the games that we all play. The George is a reasonably-priced 'local' pub in the Docklands, near Canary Wharf, just 1 minute walk from Crossharbour DLR station, or about 15 minutes walk from the Canary Wharf Jubilee line station. Various TFL buses stop nearby. Don't forget to join our group on Facebook for games news, articles, memes, gossip and banter: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Tabletop.Gamers.London.Docklands/
THE CHRISTOPHERS! + Drinks at The Queens in Crouch End!
THE CHRISTOPHERS! + Drinks at The Queens in Crouch End!
**THE CHRISTOPHERS!** **Director:** Steven Soderbergh **Cast:** Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, James Corden, Jessica Gunning What is the value of art? Does it reside in personal expression? Cultural longevity? Financial worth? These questions fuel Steven Soderbergh’s gloriously entertaining comedy, THE CHRISTOPHERS. Julian Sklar (McKellen) was once a star of London’s 1960’s and 70’s pop art explosion, but he hasn’t painted in decades and has been broke for years. His two estranged children, desperate for an inheritance, hire Lori, an art restorer and former forger (Coel), to pose as a prospective assistant in order to access unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in storage. A sharp and remarkable tale of creativity, legacy, and avarice. Trailer: [https://youtu.be/m2d1x7VuDmo?si=9PAx1ox0rxtzX2yw](https://youtu.be/m2d1x7VuDmo?si=9PAx1ox0rxtzX2yw) Cinema: Crouch End Picturehouse. Schedule: We meet at the Queens pub for drinks before the film at 7pm.🍻 We will see the 7.45pm showing (ticket booking link below). After the film we meet in the lobby and head back to the pub to discuss the film🎬 I'll book a table under the name Kate! OPTIONAL DRESS CODE 🎨🎨🖼🎨🎨🖼👨‍🎨 For our screening of The Christophers, the dress code is *Art-World Forger Pretentious.* Think: black turtlenecks, accidental paint splatters, dramatic scarves, or your most convincing knock-off designer gear (Gucci written in sharpie). Shakespeare Reading Group
Shakespeare Reading Group
Let's get our Shakespeare on. Each month, we read scenes from a play together and talk about them. Whether you're studying Shakespeare, a Shakespeare obsessive or just fancy the chat around it, you're welcome. Led by trained actor and director Chris Brosnahan. For the first month, we're going to do a play Chris just directed - The Merchant of Venice. There's plenty to talk about with this one, especially in 2026. So come along. Also, there'll be a full bard.... sorry, full bar available. It's a free event, although donations or buying drinks and books helps keep us alive!
Saturday Acting Workshop - CORIOLANUS
Saturday Acting Workshop - CORIOLANUS
Following our critically acclaimed productions of OTHELLO, MACBETH and TWELFTH NIGHT the Acting gymnasium's Saturday workshop returns to Theatre Deli on Saturday 28th March with a new imagining of Shakepeare's CORIOLANUS. Plenty of superb roles available!! Set in a post-apocalyptic landscape, Coriolanus, a fierce and proud Roman general, earns fame after defeating Rome’s enemies, especially at Corioli. Despite his military success, he despises the common people and refuses to flatter them for political gain. Urged to seek public office, his arrogance alienates citizens, leading to his banishment. In anger, he allies with his former enemy Aufidius and marches against Rome. As destruction looms, his mother, Volumnia, pleads with him to spare the city. Moved by her words, he relents, choosing honor over revenge. His decision saves Rome but seals his fate, as he is killed for betraying his allies in return. Playful Public Speaking
Playful Public Speaking
Public speaking workshops can be so boring! so many of them teach a business/political style of speaking which feels inauthentic and insincere. The meetings themselves are often a repetitive format with the same style of speaking week in week out. Do you want something a bit more playful? A bit more fun? A bit more varied? Then you have come to the right place! My philosophy is that, at some point in our lives, we’ve learnt that it isn’t safe to be ourselves in front of others. We don’t learn to be ourselves by learning how to stand, how to move our arms or how to walk on stage, the truth is you can’t learn to be yourself, because you already are yourself. The real question is: why don’t we feel safe enough to express it? The aim of this weekly drop-in class is to liberate you from your own social inhibitions. To get to a point where it makes no difference whether you are speaking to a close friend one on one or speaking to an audience of 20 strangers, imagine how powerful it would feel to get to that position, a position where the audience has no influence over your behaviour and no influence over your nervous system. The class itself will include, warm up games, questions, playful improv style speaking exercises, light hearted debates and much more ! . If this sounds too hard, know that you don’t have to take part in every single exercise, you can go at your own pace and advance when you’re ready ! Looking forwarded to seeing you there !
