Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group!\**** Gunung Semangkok (1,825m) is a mountain bordering Pahang and Selangor but goes through the Pine Tree Trail from Fraser Hill, and is an extremely tough and challenging hike due to the elevation and distance of the hike. It usually takes at least 14-18h, with an elevation of \~2,100 and a distance of \~28km. It is famous/also know for the "Valley of Death", where after the Pine Tree trail summits, it does feel like descending into a bowl before ascending, and returning back the same way. Moreover, this hike is done with a lack of sleep as we have to start early in the morning! The good thing about this hike is that it is generally cooling as it is the Fraser Hill area, do expect it to be cold once the sun sets! Do note that there is an early meeting time for this. So do be mentally and physically prepared for it! Get ready your headlights, spare batteries, expect to get your shoes wet and muddy, and you are also expected to get wet due to chance of rain! This is the toughest of our hardcore series to date, so only serious and experienced hikers! (Picture credit Johnny Yong) **Who is this for?** **=> People who wish to/can challenge themselves (I would say to the point of mental and physical torture)** => People who have done full day hikes (e.g. Ophir) and wish to challenge themselves further => Wish to hike more than 12h and deal with different terrains and undulating terrains, like up and down and up again to test their mental fortitude => Those who wish to experience hiking in the dark...and ending in the dark => Training for tough hikes (high altitude hikes that potentially last >12h) => Generally suited for more experienced hikers who know they can last at least 12h hiking => Test yourself hiking with little/no sleep Do note that we will start and might descend when dark, so please bring headlights and we expect some level of fitness or hiking experience for the group! ***Hike Details*** ***The total distance is \~28km and total elevation gain is \~2100m+.The hike is around 14-18h in total, depending on your speed.*** This will feel like doing at least 2x as long as Ophir Asahan hike. It can and will be extremely tiring on your mind, body and legs. Many of us think of yoga as physical exercises to enhance one’s physique, with an occasional short meditation for its calming effects. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. How to we deal with our intense human emotions or trauma that accumulated as we progress in our lives? According to ancient yoga, the human body is made up of the multiple layers—physical, mental, emotional; and there are many practices to bring light to our being. Emotions are vital and sacred; like pockets of energy waiting to be released; emotions are not obstacles but our guiding lights to finding the ultimate bliss in life. The ancient yogis gave us Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion, to channel that energy and guide us back to our source. Bhakti is about a relationship with the universe and it is all encompassing that it embraces every color on the emotional spectrum. In Bhakti Yoga, we lead with our hearts. We sing, we dance, we play music, write poetry, cook, paint and do everything with love —as part of our interaction with the Divine. Kirtan, the practice of chanting mantras, is perhaps the most important technique in bhakti yoga (Man means “Mind” and Tra means “to Control”). The practice is simple but internally it works magic in our hearts. Externally, we’re just repetitively singing with simple melodies and a few Sanskrit words. But it helps us to put our analytical minds aside and singing from within. We sing from our heart that is crying out for love. We channel whatever emotion we’re feeling into our voice. Deep healing happens, walls will melt, wounds will heal, trauma will heal, hate & unforgiveness will dissolve. Long-submerged emotions come to the surface. As we sing, we immerse ourselves in an endless river of love from the universe. And we enter into a meditative & blissful state that allow our hearts to heal and re-open the infinite universal source of love within us. There is no need to understand the language of the mantra.
