Learning how to read the land, choose the right materials, and construct an effective shelter in a way that does not negatively impact the local ecosystem requires knowledge, creativity, and hands-on practice. In this course we will teach you skills for creating shelters and insulations in wilderness situations. We will discuss shelter and insulation principles, basics of thermoregulation, basic improvised cordage concepts for construction, and how to determine what kind of structures are necessary for various scenarios. We will be practicing these skills in ways that promote sustainability, ethical conservation principles, and respect for our natural landscapes. After two sold-out Firecraft courses, we are so excited to be back with the next incredible course in our Survivalist Series. You’ll begin to master the craft of shelter building with expert, hands-on guidance from our seasoned survival instructor and wilderness guide, Kyle. You'll be taught and encouraged to practice: 1\. Don't be disappointed if you don't see a bunch of people attending. I advertise this on multiple platforms and the class usually sells out. Improv comedy uses several techniques to create laughter. These include, creating an atmosphere free of judgement, saying 'yes', active listening, being positive, putting your focus on others, and the importance of play and laughter. Not coincidentally, these are the same things that happen to us naturally when we are bonding with another person. In this class, we'll explore these techniques not with the goal of being funny, but with the goal of being people that other people want to be around. The organizer, Ralph MacLeod, is a co-founder of two independent improv clubs in Toronto - Bad Dog Theatre and Social Capital Theatre. He's been teaching improv for over 30 years. He also teaches these same techniques to several organizations including UofT, Google, Kraft, Shopify and many, many more. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have! FAQs and Good To Know.... After every event, a group from this class sit down and have a drink together so be prepared to stay if you want! Of course, you don't HAVE to. The plan is to start hiking from Guild Park toward the Bluffs along the waterfront trail. Option 1 (moderate): We’ll do about 12–14 km at a comfortable pace. Option 2 (longer challenge): If the group is feeling good, we can extend the hike to about 15–17 km and add some elevation sections. We’ll decide together during the hike depending on the group’s energy and comfort level. Please bring layers, water, good walking shoes, and snacks. Looking forward to a great hike!

Let’s bundle up and brave the cold with a winter stroll at High Park. After that, depending on how hungry (and frozen) we are, we can warm up at one of the cozy cafés or restaurants along Bloor. These fun & informative clinics are for those who are interested in learning the basic steps of Nordic Pole walking and for those who want to brush up on their skills for winter walking. This is a wonderful time of the year to learn how to Nordic Pole walk as it allows us to walk with confidence during the early spring months and then enjoy the beautiful spring and summer weather ahead. Adding safety and ease to our walks is so important. We continue to meet indoor at St. Andrews Valley Golf Course this time of year so that we have a beautiful warm room overlooking the golf course to learn in. When the weather turns nice we meet outdoors again! You will learn the basic steps to Nordic Pole walking and the difference between Nordic Walking and Trekking! You will learn how to set your pole height, put on your pole straps, the basic technique of Nordic Pole walking along with the amazing benefits of adding poles to your walk plus helpful hints for early spring walking. This group is for badminton enthusiasts who are passionate about exploring the connections between metabolism, energy, and exercise. We are welcome beginner plus, intermediate and advance level players looking to improve your skill or a seasoned player seeking to optimize your performance on the court, this group is for you! Please join us the 3rd Wednesday of each month to learn more about the Columbus Ski Club and what we have to offer. Pizza, wings and a variety of appetizers provided. We are a non-profit organization founded in 1958 with over 800 members. The club has grown beyond the single mission of providing members with not only quality skiing events but also year round social and sport activities. Our gatherings are an opportunity for members and non-members to interact and learn about the many activities offered such as euchre, billiards, volleyball, pickleball, tennis, bowling, golf & softball leagues along with ski and non-ski trips. Our members also plan group activities such as visits to wine tastings, bike trips, comedy clubs, concerts, plays and local sports games, etc. CSC membership is not required to belong to the Meetup group. Membership is required in order to participate in most club activities (CSC member). However, anyone (21 and over) is welcome at our meeting gatherings which consist of checking out our current activities and socializing.
