GRILLZ LAB INTRO TO CUSTOM GRILLZ JEWELLERY Hosted by Marie Grillz This hands on workshop introduces the creative process behind custom grillz as a form of wearable jewellery sculpture. Participants will learn how artists design and prototype grillz using wax-carving techniques commonly used in jewellery manufacturing. The session focuses on wax material experimentation and translating a personal aesthetic into a wearable metal object. You will be working on a pre-made dental plaster impression provided for practice. If you wish to create a personal impression of your own teeth, you may choose to take a mould of your own teeth prior to the workshop. * This must be performed by a professional dentist. Please contact Marie if you require assistance finding a dentist. This workshop is intended for creative education and jewellery making and not a dentistry course. About Your Instructor: Jennifer is the designer and grillz artist behind Marie Grillz. With a Bachelor in Fashion Enterprise, Fashion Design, Jewellery manufacturing, and mentorship from an established Australian grillz jeweller, Jennifer specialises in translating fashion aesthetics into precious metal mouth jewellery. Jennifer’s main research during her university degree was exploring body adornment. Taking this into her jewellery career, her art sits between fashion accessory and body adornment, and she will be teaching the same creative prototyping methods she uses in her studio practice. What You’ll Do: You will create a wax prototype for a grillz jewellery piece the stage used by jewellers before metal casting. Workshop Outline: * Welcome & Intro * Overview of the session * History of Grillz * Looking at sample grillz styles * Discuss design possibilities, materials, and what’s achievable in wax * Pouring plaster moulds to get a good impression mould * Wax melting and carving for grillz * Troubleshooting fitting issues Important Details: * All participants work on pre-made models, not their own teeth. * The metal grillz piece is decorative only and will NOT fit your teeth. * If you wish to bring your own model, it is your responsibility to arrange this with a licensed dental professional not with Marie grillz * This workshop is for beginners only — polishing, metal casting, or dental impression work will not be taught, though relevant information will be shared. * All activities are creative and jewellery-focused. FAQ What do I need to bring? * A notebook (optional, if you like jotting things down) * Positive energy and an open mind ✨ Dress code: * Comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty * Closed toe flat shoes only (no sandals or heels) * Bring a hair tie if you have long hair Experience level: The workshop is beginner-friendly and guided step by step, so whether it’s your first time or you’ve worked with jewellery before, you’ll be supported throughout. What you will receive at the end of the workshop: * Grillz in person workshop notes * Grillz booklet on how to make grillz and everything I’ve learnt during my journey in the industry Take home two creations: 1. Jewellers can hire a desk in our workshop to make or finish off their own pieces. This workshop is self run, you need to attend a health and safety induction before working daily unattended. Basic jewellery making tools are provided and some consumables such as flux, borax, tumbling polish, lathe polish and some drill bits. Meet at the Red Triangle in Fitzroy to play pool. If there are multiple people interested in snooker, we can open up a snooker table. The host will pay for table hire at the end of the event, then we'll split the cost along with a small addition in order to help cover the Meetup fees (+$2 per person per event) - so please bring $10-15 cash or be prepared to pay via PayID. The host will arrive early and secure a table for us to meet at. See you there! **Please update your RSVP if you can't make it!** Rules: In case any rule needs clarification, we play according to the World Eightball Pool Federation rules (https://www.wepf.org/docs/rules_2019.pdf). The most relevant rules are: 1. Fouls result in two visits being awarded to the opponent. That means the shots "carry on" if balls are potted. 2. Committing a foul on the same shot that the Eight Ball is potted results in losing the game. Potting the cue ball while on the Eight Ball does not result in losing. 3. After the cue ball is potted, the next player can play the cue ball in any direction from baulk (the rectangular area at the top of the rable sectioned off by a line). Damian Clark facilitates a ‘North Fitzroy Men’s walk and talk group’ for men in the inner city and northern suburbs interested in connecting with other men to develop meaningful and supportive connections, with the added health benefits of a walk in nature.
