The library houses 162 million items, including the largest rare book collection in North America. But it is more than just a library! The Library of Congress is also a concert venue with recorded sound collections spanning jazz, American theater, folk, ethnic, and pop. The library has commissioned hundreds of original musical works, including the Aaron Copland's masterpiece "Appalachian Spring." We'll have **FREE** swing dance at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, May 2, 2026. 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. No partner required, all ages, styles and abilities welcome. Weather should cooperate and there is no swing dance at Glen Echo that night, so a chance to strut your stuff in front of the multitude of tourists! I'm the DJ, so feel free to bring your requests!

Free Argentine Tango fundamentals classes weekly for OneLife McLean (Regency) members in McLean Virginia! Nonmembers may pay for the health club entrance at the door ($30) and use the club for the day, which includes the dance classes, use of the pool, weights, tennis, etc . . This series runs from 12 April through mid-June every Sunday 230-330. Following the tango class, there is a dance workout class from 330-430, also included. Follow the 🎶 Forró DC is brung the fun of forro to everyone. Forró SC is opening the dance floor to all. Come out and join the free event to dance forro, explor Brazilian culture and meet the local forro fantics. There will be a basic forro lesson and plenty of time to dance.

We practice, dance, and enjoy a BYOB bottle of your favorite wine at the Dublin Ballroom off Sawmill, North, and “milonga” is a social event for tango dancing where dancers socialize. A “*practica*” is an informal social event for tango dancing where dancers focus on practicing the dance; while a “*practilonga*” combines the relaxed atmosphere of a “*practica*” with the format of a “milonga.” We are doing it all! ***Cost is $10 payable to the Teacher.*** *Cost is for the cost of the venue and covers some snacks.* We have had fun doing this event in the past. Please arrive promptly as lessons begin at 2pm. Don't worry about bringing a partner as there will be others at the event from outside the group that: a) might have a clue and b) won't step on your toes. The event is BYOB (similar to our Salsa events), so bring your favorite and a wine glass. We will likely find a place for dinner and drinks after the dance.

Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
