Tea, Meditation & Community Dharma Talks in Tiergarten
Tea, Meditation & Community Dharma Talks in Tiergarten
This Saturday we’ll meet in Tiergarten for another simple outdoor meditation session with Chinese tea, quiet practice, and a new community element: short dharma-talk-style sharing. The structure will be familiar: * Chinese tea and a short intro * 20 min metta * 20 min samatha / calm concentration * A community dharma talk * 20 min vipassana / open awareness * More tea and informal exchange The community dharma talk idea is inspired by how talks are sometimes done in Zen schools: a student gives a short speech about everyday life, how they came to practice, how meditation has affected them, and maybe one small nugget of wisdom they have discovered along the way. Of course, none of us are here as teachers or authorities. The spirit is simply to share honestly from our own experience: practice in real life, with real problems, real changes, real doubts, and maybe a little clarity. **When:** Saturday, May 2, 1 PM **Where:** Tiergarten park (see pin) **Bring:** something to sit on, comfortable clothes, and optionally your own tea cup Beginners are very welcome. Come for the tea, the practice, the park, or just to sit quietly with others. Please join our [Telegram group](https://t.me/+mNcEV0--Rho0OTgy).

Education: Past, Present, and Future – Knowledge, Power, and Society
Education: Past, Present, and Future – Knowledge, Power, and Society
**Education: Past, Present, and Future – Knowledge, Power, and Society** Education is a central institution in human societies, shaping how knowledge is produced, distributed, and legitimized. It plays a crucial role in structuring social hierarchies, political participation, and economic opportunities. While often understood as a pathway to equality and personal development, education also contributes to the reproduction of existing inequalities. Historically, access to education was restricted to elites and religious institutions. The expansion of public education since the Enlightenment marked a shift toward broader inclusion, closely tied to processes of industrialization and democratization. Education became both a public good and a key mechanism for enabling social mobility and civic participation. At the same time, education is not neutral. Educational systems can reproduce social inequality by privileging certain forms of knowledge, language, and behavior that align with dominant social groups. They can also function as mechanisms of discipline, shaping norms, expectations, and patterns of behavior. In this sense, education operates at the intersection of knowledge and power. Yet education also holds transformative potential. It can expand access to knowledge, foster critical thinking, and create opportunities for individuals to move beyond structural constraints. It therefore simultaneously functions as a mechanism of social reproduction and as a driver of greater equality. In contemporary contexts, education is being reshaped by digitalization, globalization, and changing economic demands. These developments create new opportunities for access and innovation, while also generating new forms of inequality. Looking ahead, technological change—particularly artificial intelligence—challenges traditional assumptions about the purpose of education. This raises fundamental questions: Should education primarily serve economic productivity, democratic participation, or individual development? And how can it remain both equitable and meaningful in a rapidly changing world? This discussion invites a critical examination of education as a historical, political, and social force—one that both reinforces and transforms the structures of society. *** 📅 Event Details 🗓️ Date: Sunday, 03 Mai 2026 ⏰ Time: 14:30 📍 Location: Hardenbergstraße 10, 10623 Berlin 📱 WhatsApp: For prep materials and directions (Group Chat) [Group Chat](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ba8ZAaH2Yuk6FGmD3LLO7H)
Silent Reading Club
Silent Reading Club
Ditch the old book club, where everyone has to read the same book...this is better! It works like this: Bring your own book. Come chat, have some tea or coffee, get to know your neighbors. Then we quietly read together, side by side, for about one hour, each one reading their own book, and afterwards we talk with each other about what we are reading. The usual agenda: - Arrival and introduction (~20 minutes) - Silent reading (~1 hour) - Discussion (~30-40 minutes) - Join us for a bite at a local restaurant afterwards, if you like! You may read in any language, you may read any book. We are a group of international residents of Berlin from many different countries, of all ages, and we converse in English. We welcome you! No registration needed – the event is donation based. All funds support the Offenes Wohnzimmer.

Many have started to draw in our event actually. **Structure** A. Warmup Phase: We pose to each other for 1 minute. B. Main Phase: We pose to each other for 10 minutes. C. Summer Social: Let's kick off summer with Adult field day at Shadybowl! FREE
We’re bringing back Adult Field Day. Last year was a good mix of competition and just hanging out, so we’re doing it again with some new games mixed in. Think team-based challenges, simple races, and a few things inspired by game shows. You don’t need to be athletic. Most of the fun is just being part of a team and getting to know people you wouldn’t normally talk to. The goal isn’t really winning. It’s meeting people, laughing a bit, and leaving knowing a few more names than when you showed up. If you stick around after, we’ll have a potluck, a bonfire, and a couple comedians in the evening. Bring: * Please Bring Something to share for the potluck cookout signup sheet [https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E49ABA92EA2FAC70-63781787-saturday](https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E49ABA92EA2FAC70-63781787-saturday) * Clothes you can move around in RSVP on Meetup is free. A small contribution helps keep events sustainable and ensures those who RSVP actually show up. Great events take time, effort, and consistency to organize. Most people contribute $2–5 per event to help keep these going. Appreciate everyone who supports — it genuinely makes a difference. If you find value in these events or maybe even made a new friend, consider contributing what feels fair to you. **Contribution link** listed below in the comments

Here are complete details and our plan for this event: FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces. LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details: IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events! Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
Tango & Milonga: Practice and Social in Dublin
Tango & Milonga: Practice and Social in Dublin
We practice, dance, and enjoy a BYOB bottle of your favorite wine at the Dublin Ballroom off Sawmill, North, and “milonga” is a social event for tango dancing where dancers socialize. A “*practica*” is an informal social event for tango dancing where dancers focus on practicing the dance; while a “*practilonga*” combines the relaxed atmosphere of a “*practica*” with the format of a “milonga.” We are doing it all! ***Cost is $10 payable to the Teacher.*** *Cost is for the cost of the venue and covers some snacks.* We have had fun doing this event in the past. Please arrive promptly as lessons begin at 2pm. Don't worry about bringing a partner as there will be others at the event from outside the group that: a) might have a clue and b) won't step on your toes. The event is BYOB (similar to our Salsa events), so bring your favorite and a wine glass. We will likely find a place for dinner and drinks after the dance.
