Hot Springs Walk

When: Thursday 23rd April, 5 pm\*\*
\*\*Bring a pail to soak in the hot springs as there may not be enough space for everyone in the hot spring. You can also bring eggs to boil :-) \*\*
Did you know that there is a Hot Spring in Singapore?
**Sembawang Hot Spring Park** is a natural [hot spring](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_spring) and a public park in [Singapore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore).[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sembawang_Hot_Spring_Park#cite_note-ST-Dominic-1) It is located beside a military camp about 100 meters (330 ft) off the main road, Gambas Avenue. Like hot springs worldwide, it can have health-healing properties with proper use in moderation, and its natural spring water had once been bottled commercially by [Fraser and Neave](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraser_and_Neave), under the brand name of Seletaris. Since its discovery in 1909, the spring has been through a few changes of ownership and potential redevelopment proposals. The hot spring has a rural rustic feel for visitors to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the modern metropolitan city.
Visit the hot springs and soak in it!
Join in the walk, and enjoy the wonderful views of Singapore and the nature surrounding you. We shall have dinner at Canberra hawker centre.
See you there! :-)

Novel Biological Aging Clocks
**Novel Biological Aging Clocks**
Prof. Jan Gruber from NUS will introduce aging clocks - research tools that estimate biological age rather than just calendar age. These clocks are built from measurable biological signals, such as patterns in DNA methylation, blood biomarkers, and metabolic data, that change in predictable ways over time. In this talk, he will explain how aging clocks are developed, what they can and cannot tell us about health and lifespan, and how scientists use them to study disease risk, lifestyle effects, and interventions that may influence the rate of aging. This talk is designed for everyone who wants to take their health into their own hands, making informed decisions.

[Hiking Series] M'sia - Ophir via Sagil (1,276m): Step-up for a full-day hike!
**\*If interested, please whatsapp** [wa.me/+6588842635](wa.me/+6588842635) **or +65 8884 2635! We have limited permits and must be applied in advance. Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! \****
Gunung Ledang, or commonly known as Mount Ophir (1,276m) is the highest mountain in Johor and almost the most climbed mountain there.
This is a good step-up hike for those who are looking to progress to tougher hikes after Gunung Datuk or are training or preparing for Kinabalu/Nepal etc.
**Who is this for?**
It serves as a good training or progressive hike for those who wish to do more hiking. Most do it as training for other treks, like Kinabalu, or Nepal.
**How tough is it/How fit do I have to be?**
It is twice as long as Gunung Datuk. The trek is around 4-5h up and 3-4h down, making it a total of 9h. The total elevation is around 1,000m up and down. It can be quite tiring on your legs.
It is generally tropical forest trail, with some rope portions, ladders and rock faces. It can be quite fun to go through the different terrain with the need to use your hands at some points.
However, if you have done Gunung Datuk before, the terrain is not that much of a surprise. The tough part is only the duration.
This is good for people who have some level of fitness, if not it will be fun for those who are first time in Malaysia!
**What happens if I am slow?**
There is a 1 guide to 7 hikers ratio. There is also a cut-off timing to the summit, if you fail to make it you will have to turn back! So far everyone I've brought made it =). Do note if you descent past a certain time, there is a penalty.
How many pax for the trip to happen?
Minimum **12 pax** to start the trip!
Once confirmed, a Whatsapp group will be set up.
**Estimated Itinerary:**

Some additional questions:
1. How long is the ride to Mount Ophir
A: It takes only around 3-4h from Singapore
2. The journey to Ophir only takes 3 hours, why do we set off so early?
A: This is so that we can save money on accommodation/driver cost/taxi to MRT station. This also means there is a lack of sleep, so try to sleep in the vehicle! Bring a travel pillow!
3. Are there shower or toilet facilities at the park?
A: Yes there are but basic. Expect using a hose/bucket. Please bring a change of clothes and shower when you are down from Ophir. No smelly people in the vehicle!
4. What do I have to look out for?
A: There are mosquitoes and leeches sometimes, depends on the weather.
5. Where is dinner?
We would have dinner in Tangkak at a cheap and nice chinese restaurant, if there are dietary concerns there are other options around the area also.
[Hiking Series] M'sia - Datuk: Sunrise Hike + Malacca for hiking "beginners"
**\*If interested, please whatsapp** [wa.me/+6588842635](wa.me/+6588842635) **or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! \****
Gunung Datuk is a good **challenging (depends on who you ask)** starting hike and introduction to trekking for beginners or first-timers who wish to know **what hiking really entails!** It is also one of the more fun short-day hikes for the adventurous!
Mount Datuk (885m) is an extremely popular 1-day beginner hike located in Malaysia, about an hour away from Malacca.
The hike takes an average of 2.5h up and 2.5h down. It is not too long, yet challenging and strenuous enough for a half-day hike. There are some very steep parts and the trek requires using your hands. Additionally, there are minor rope sections and ladders near the summit. This trek can be **challenging for beginners** so be prepared for a fun adventurous experience.
At the summit, there is a nice view of the surroundings and we can take a break on the rocks and enjoy the wind before descending! After that, the plan is to hunt for some good food in Malacca! If we end earlier, there will be more time for free and easy along Jonker street.
Of course within the group, there will be people of various speeds. Those faster can have more time at the summit and wash up first. Please be patient for the slower ones!
The intention of the trip is to introduce newbies who haven't tried trekking before so please be patient and welcoming! It is important to be open-minded and sporting enough to embrace challenges! There are mosquitoes and leeches abound =) **Do note it is NOT a walk in the park**
To confirm, do RSVP and send me a whatsapp message! A Whatsapp group will be set up.
A minimum of **12 pax** is needed for this trip to go ahead. Your place is only confirmed once payment is made.
Here is the estimated itinerary:

Some additional questions:
1. How long is the ride to Mount Datuk

A: This is so that we can save money on accommodation/driver cost/taxi to MRT station. This also means there is a lack of sleep, so try to sleep in the vehicle! Bring a travel pillow!
3. Are there shower or toilet facilities at the park?
A: Very basic shower and toilet facilities. Please bring a change of clothes and shower when you are down from Datuk. No smelly people in the vehicle!
4. Do I get to see the sunrise at the top?
A: Maybe. Depends on how comfortable everyone is with walking with headlights.
5. I am totally new to hiking, what should I bring/wear? Is there training?
A: I will set up a WhatsApp group for questions and provide some info-kit to prepare. Most important is being open =)
6. How fit do I have to be? I am afraid of being the slowest/burden to the group.
A: You would need basic endurance and be open-minded, embrace the challenge of using your hands and going up and down rocks or steep terrain. Many people have done Datuk, of various fitness, the group will move at a slower pace to help build that confidence.
7. What happens if it rains!
A: If it is a light drizzle, we would continue. Usually we'll continue, or wait until the heavy rain stops. If it rains, it'll be slippery so go slow!
🇹🇼 Back to True Breakfast (初早餐) one last time!
True Breakfast will shutter on 26 April thus we decided to pay them one last visit. We have been to True Breakfast outlets several times (this one and the one at Cuppage) so we are a bit sad that they are closing down as they serve authentic Taiwanese breakfast. Let's enjoy it one last time while they are still there.

We meet at local breweries for laid-back conversations about all things travel — past trips, upcoming journeys, bucket lists, favorite hidden gems, and insider advice. It's a friendly, casual space to connect with fellow adventurers, get inspired, and maybe even find your next travel buddy.
No tickets required — just curiosity, good vibes, and a love for discovery.

Some people see first class and assume it starts there.
The seat.
The lounge.
The upgrade.
The luxury hotel.
You get the idea.
The mistake is thinking those experiences begin with money, luck, or status.
They don’t.
In this special session, JGOOT Founder Joel McDonald shares the many early steps, smart moves, mindset shifts, and lessons that helped create the first-class way of travel he enjoys today.
Because the truth is: Premium travel is often built long before the trip ever happens.
It’s time for: **Before First Class: The “Firsts” That Paved the Way**
Joel will walk through the key moments that shaped his travel journey, the decisions that compounded over time, and the strategies everyday travelers can learn and apply for themselves.
Inside this session, you’ll learn:
• The early moves that matter more than flashy redemptions
• How small decisions can compound into premium travel experiences
• What most travelers misunderstand about how luxury travel is built
• The mindset shifts that create long-term leverage
• How to begin building your own version now
This isn’t about copying someone else’s lifestyle.
It’s not about chasing a lucky one-time trip.
It’s about understanding the steps that create repeatable results.
And when you learn those steps, first class stops feeling far away.
