šŸŽ‰ MoLI's Bloomsday Garden Party 🌹
šŸŽ‰ MoLI's Bloomsday Garden Party 🌹
**[Paid Event - 20 EUR | Ticket Mandatory](https://moli.ie/events/bloomsday)** This Bloomsday, step into the world of James Joyce at MoLI (Museum of Literature Ireland) where readers, writers and visitors from around the world will gather to celebrate one of the world’s greatest literary masterpieces in the very place where Joyce once studied. Join us for the annual **MoLI Bloomsday Garden Party**, running from 6pm to 9.30pm on 16 June. Guests can enjoy live performances from songwriter Cara Coyle and her band, as well as Dunny, a three-piece group featuring Donnacha O’Malley, Des Garvey and Jack McGarry. The evening will close with the joyful sounds of Regional MassapĆŖ, a Brazilian traditional choro ensemble. Presented in partnership with Teeling Whiskey Distillery, the MoLI Bloomsday Garden Party has become one of the highlights of Dublin’s summer calendar. Tickets are €20 for non-members, while MoLI members receive complimentary admission. Guests will be welcomed with a specially created Bloomsday cocktail courtesy of Teeling Whiskey Distillery. Located in the historic UCD Newman House, where Joyce graduated in 1902, MoLI is home to Copy No. 1 of Ulysses, personally inscribed by the author himself. From special Joycean-themed guided tours to live music and summer cocktails in the museum’s historic gardens, MoLI offers one of Dublin’s most memorable Bloomsday experiences. Set across a single day in Dublin in 1904, *Ulysses* continues to captivate readers and writers around the world more than a century after its publication. Joyce famously said that in writing the novel, he wanted to *ā€œgive a picture of Dublin so complete that if the city one day suddenly disappeared from the earth it could be reconstructed out of my book.ā€* [The Bloomsday Festival](https://www.bloomsdayfestival.ie/) takes place on 11-16 June 2026. It is organised by [The James Joyce Centre](https://www.jamesjoyce.ie/) in partnership with FĆ”ilte Ireland and the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.

The Dublin Book Club Meetup Group Monthly Meetup
Hi there, Here are the books for the June 16th meetup. And remember, you don't have to read both books! Enjoy, and see you on the 16th of June! PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LOCATION HAS MOVED FROM THE BLEEDING HORSE TO JIMMY RABBITTE AT 87 LOWER CAMDEN STREET. Note: If these books are difficult to find in bookshops, try online (e.g.: Amazon.co.uk, kennys.ie, easons.com, bookdepository.com to name a few). AS THIS GROUP DOES NOT TAKE ONLINE PAYMENTS, EVERYONE WILL SHOW AS 'UNPAID'. PLEASE IGNORE. **1\. Empire of AI \- Karen Hao** An eye-opening account of the tech arms race shaping out planet, from an award-winning journalist and AI insider to the world of Sam Altman and OpenAI When longtime AI expert and journalist Karen Hao first began covering OpenAI in 2019, she thought they were the good guys. Founded as a nonprofit with safety enshrined as its core mission, it was meant, its leader Sam Altman told us, to act as a check against more purely market forces. But the core truth of this massively disruptive sector is that it requires an unprecedented amount of proprietary resources: the ā€˜compute’ power of scarce high-end chips, the sheer volume of data that needs to be amassed at scale, the humans on the ground ā€˜cleaning it up’ for sweatshop wages throughout the Global South, and a truly alarming spike in the need for energy and water underlying everything. We have entered a new, ominous age of empire with OpenAI setting a breakneck pace, as a small group of the most valuable companies in human history try to chase it down. In exhilarating prose and with unparalleled access to those closest to Sam Altman, Hao recounts the meteoric rise of OpenAI and shows us the sinister impact that this industry is having on society. **2\. Leonard and Hungry Paul – Ronan Hession** Leonard and Hungry Paul is the story of two friends who ordinarily would remain uncelebrated. It finds a value and specialness in them that is not immediately apparent and prompts the idea that maybe we could learn from the people that we overlook in life. Leonard and Hungry Paul change the world differently to the rest of us: we try and change it by effort and force; they change it by discovering the small things they can do well and offering them to others. reviving gardans, Growing community
reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic** This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there. On the day, we’ll: * Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep * Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally * **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices * Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food * Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea: * The possibility of **small community ā€œpark farmsā€ or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin * What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key. This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.
DDS Talks at Zalando
DDS Talks at Zalando
Dublin Data Science is having an event in Zalando for June. Zalando is one of the top Europe’s leading online fashion platform, connecting 62 million active customers with more than 7,000 brands across 29 markets. We will have two talks: one from Senior Data Scientist at Zalando, Alex Martinelli, and one from DDS regular Duncan Healy. **Talk 1:** **Data Science at Zalando** and a non-hyped view on how we optimize the use of LLMs for different tasks In this talk I'll provide an overview of the data-science work happening in Zalando, focusing on core projects built right here in our Dublin office, including product-matching, product-tagging, and Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) for customer reviews. While the rapid evolution of LLMs has made them powerful tools for these tasks, we adopt and evaluate them carefully. I will discuss our practical, balanced approach to adopting and evaluating LLMs, demonstrating how we integrate them into our existing pipelines to achieve optimal performance while keeping infrastructure costs in check. Alex Martinelli is a senior data-scientist at Zalando, previously worked for IBM-Watson. Mainly focusing on representation-learning, computer-vision and generative-models. Additional hobbies and interests include procedural-computer-graphics in Blender, drawing and lucid-dreaming. **Talk 2:** **How to Tame the Dragons of Data** Duncan Healy is a freelancer and DDS regular, he made the mistake of pontificating too often about LLMs and databases and now has to give a talk about it.

After Work Wednesday's!
After Work Wednesday's!
Get over the mid week slump and come down to meet some new faces and relax. We try and go to a different bar every week and you can join us anytime after 18:30. **How to find the group?** \*We have an area reserved just for us so if you are new and unsure please ask any of the bar staff for the area reserved under the organisers name or if completely lost on the night please contact the event host and they'll come and find you. **How does it work?** \*After finding the group either the organiser will approach you and ask if you are looking for the meetup or you can just ask anyone "Is this the meetup?" and normally that is a great conversation opener to join the group. After that it's up to you what you make of the event. That is pretty much it. Easy right? We normally encourage people to stand as it's much easier to mingle that way. **Nervous about coming to the event?** \*While it's quite intimidating meeting a bunch of strangers from the internet we are a very welcoming group. We normally look out for new people and remember that everyone in the group has been new in the group at one point. If are you'd like extra help just contact the event host on the night. **Interested in helping out?** \*Let me (Ɖamonn) know as it would be greatly appreciated. **Something happened?** \*Please report it to the organiser as we cannot do anything to prevent it from happening again if we don't know about it. Even if it's something small please let the organiser know as they are probably unaware. We aim to have the location up by Monday afternoon before the event. The bars we go to are all based in the city centre. **See you on Wednesday!**

šŸ“š Books & Social šŸø
šŸ“šReading books and discussing them are two distinct experiences! Conversations about books and sharing insights help us better appreciate literature and enrich our lives. [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/dublinersjoysofreading) Let's grab a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and discuss books we're currently reading or have recently enjoyed—whether poetry, fiction, or non-fiction. Bring your physical book or e-reader. There's no formal structure or agenda—just books and good conversation.šŸ’¬ It's a perfect place to get book recommendations and rediscover your reading momentum if you've hit a slump. We welcome readers of all backgrounds and interests! āš ļø**Something Happened?** If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. Even if it seems minor, don't hesitate to reach out to me. šŸ” **How to find us?** * When I reach the venue, I'll leave a comment in the meetup where the group is seated. Normally, the booking is in my name, so you can ask the staff for the group. * If you're unable to find us, leave a comment in the meetup page. I'll be able to guide you. We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event! As an organizer, I'm always looking for feedback about the event and suggestions for new events, so feel free to suggest ideas to me. šŸ’” I look forward to seeing you all! 😊
