Holy ESL This group is an advanced and intermediate English learners who are interested to learn English language as a second language (ESL) using the Bible. We often think of home as a physical space we dwell in. But if that's all it is, why is it that we can 'feel at home' in a country, a city, or with other people? What makes these places and experiences feel home-like? In our next Curiosity Café we will begin by thinking about home as a physical space. What makes a space feel like a home? What features must be present for it to feel that way? Why do many of us feel the drive to decorate where we live, and what does this tell us about our self-expression? Then we will turn to home as a *feeling*. The answer to the question of what makes something feel like home seems deeply personal, yet there's something universal about the warmth a *feeling of home* evokes. But where does that feeling come from? Is it the people? The memories? Or something else entirely? Finally, we ask: not everyone has a house, and not every house feels like a home. What is the difference between the two? Can you have one without the other? And what responsibility do we have, individually and collectively, to facilitate the cultivation of a sense of home for ourselves and for others? We begin every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with a time to socialize and connect. Our formal program begins at 10:30 a.m., and each week we will have different activities and topics, including practicing English conversation, reading short articles, learning about common pronunciation and grammar mistakes made by ESL speakers, etc. Our volunteers would love to get to know you and offer gentle and constructive feedback to help you improve your English! Hola! Join us for our *monthly get-together*, and chat in Spanish with other like-minded members! Our May Meetup is at Pauper's Pub, a stone's throw from Bathurst TTC station. We usually meet on the 2nd floor, however, during Winter, we will likely meet on the 1st floor, as the pub tends to close it for the season. I will likely update you closer to the date in case there are any changes, however unlikely. If you do not see us, just ask a bartender on the same floor and they will point you in the right direction. The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
