The web is at the heart of our every day lives and we understand now it has enormous sustainability impacts. So what do we do as practitioners, teams and businesses building individual websites or apps? How do we have full confidence that our tech meets our sustainability claims? Adam Newman, Co-founder of Root & Branch is going to address these questions, demystify vendor claims and add some clarity to what it means to build, host and manage a sustainable web estate. Adam is the co-chair of the Green Software Foundation's "SCI for web" project, writing the spec for how to apply the latest ISO standard (ISO 21031:2024) to the web as well as the co-author of a paper on the energy and emissions measurement of websites and cloud applications. No matter if you are a beginner or a more experienced comedian, it can still bring about the dread of not being good enough, making a fool of yourself, and confirming your worst fears. But, it can also be a brilliant and almost therapeutic way to overcome self-doubt, self-sabotage, gain confidence and find that sweet spot where masks come off and you find yourself flying! Join us for a tour of Brothers Drake Meadery in Grandview, hosted by the owner Oron Benary. He will explain the mead-making process and offer us generous samples of their fine meads. Mead is basically wine that is made from honey instead of grapes. There are many different flavors that range from dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, to sweet. They are best known for their Apple Pie Mead. Oron has offered us a special price of 5.00 each person for the tour and tasting, which is normally 25.00 per person. I've taken the tour several times, and it's always enlightening and fun. Rebecca will bring a tea that will pair well with the mead for a tea tasting afterwards. Park anywhere around the building.
