Retro/Modern Video Gaming Meetup: A Bird's Hatchingday Edition!!!
Hi there, Ben here. The weekend of June 6th is special as I'm celebrating my 41st birthday. I didn't do a big meet up for my 40th but I want to do something a little special this time. I'll be ordering pizza and a special birthday cake.
Since we will not be going out for dinner this time, I must ask everyone who is attending to bring some cash to help with paying for the Pizza (I also can accept Paypal or Zelle). I'm also okay with people bringing drinks, snacks, or other sweet treats in lieu of cash. I'm hoping for 10 to 15 dollars per person to help with the cost.
You can bring a present too if you want but it's not necessary as just having y'all come to our meetups is a present.
Normal details follow:
Vaccine verification will be made via either presentation of your Vaccine card at the door, or a photo of the updated card posted to the vaccine channel of the group Discord.
Masks are now optional.
We've got a decently sized collection of systems ranging from the old 8-16 bit days, on through to all the current systems, including the PS5, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Ouya, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, PC, Nvidia Shield TV, Evercade VS, and even an Amiga 1200, as well as a decent number of controllers. Please bring any Wii U pro, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, or PS4 controllers you have though, as we could use those, and any games that people might bring would also be welcome. We have a second and third screen with classic consoles and a spare PS4, and have some streaming from our PC, thanks to our Steam Link. We also have an arcade cab, filled to the brim with games! It's also got HDMI inputs. If you have a system you would like to bring along, please do so! Here's hoping to see you all here!!!

Profs & Pints N. Virginia: A Deep Dive into the Declaration of Independence
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“A Deep Dive into the Declaration of Independence,”** on the origins and impact of America’s founding document, with Denver Brunsman, chairman of George Washington University’s history department, lecturer at Mount Vernon, and noted scholar of early American history and the American Revolution.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-deep-dive-into-declaration](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-deep-dive-into-declaration) .]
The celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary will take on much deeper meaning if you take time to fully understand and appreciate the document that declared our independence from England and gave rise to the American experiment.
Learn essential lessons about the Declaration of Independence from Denver Brunsman, an incredibly engaging speaker who has built a big following among Profs and Pints fans in and around Washington D.C.
Professor Brunsman will start by discussing the Declaration’s background, composition, and philosophical underpinnings.
You’ll learn how by 1776 American colonists had resisted British policies for thirteen years and endured open warfare with Britain for more than a year. We’ll look at how this imperial crisis influenced the Declaration’s primary author, Thomas Jefferson, as well as the larger Declaration Committee and the Second Continental Congress.
In recent years, scholars have focused particularly on the previously underappreciated grievance section of the Declaration. Rather than simply being an afterthought to the more famous preamble (“all men are created equal”), the grievances followed a logical order that carefully presented the case against King George III and the British Empire for a “candid world” to consider. Professor Brunsman will fill you in on how that list of grievances rallied Americans and other nations to the cause.
A document both timeless and of its time, the Declaration quickly soared beyond its humble origins as a committee report to become synonymous with American independence and an inspiration for rebellion elsewhere. Dr. Brunsman will consider the place of the Declaration in American life, from the eighteenth century to today, and how the document helped shape much of American history while influencing “the course of human events” throughout the world.
The talk will close with customary toasts from the American revolutionary era. Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah! (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.)

Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy nature! We meet Saturdays at 10am, by the bike racks and benches 150 feet in front of BUBBLES Hair Salon in Reston, leaving no later than 10:05.
Every week we'll walk the Green Trail to Lake Anne Plaza (\~1 mile), pause there for 5-10 minutes (water, bio, and from April-Nov a Farmer's Market), then circle the lake (2 miles) before returning to our starting point. It's roughly 3.5 miles and takes about an hour and a half.
Afterwards, some members will often head to a local restaurant to refuel and relax before tackling the rest of the day.
This event is open to all ages and fitness levels, and both friends and dogs are always welcome! We recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water bottle, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll always walk, rain or shine.
By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.

1JennyFan's General Gaming Meetup!
Both primary COVID-19 vaccinations are REQUIRED to enter. No vax, no entry. No exceptions. Please preferably share your vaccine status in the #vaccine channel on our Discord, either via https://vase.vdh.virginia.gov/vdhapps/f?p=545:1 or photograph of your vaccine card. If you're not comfortable sharing your status online, you can also physically bring your card. Attendees come at their own risk.
In terms of setup, I have a TV for videos and general gaming, a monitor in a different room for smaller games, let's plays, and streaming, and a projector in the loft for movies and larger games requiring more space like Dance Dance Revolution, Just Dance, and Guitar Hero/Rock Band. For consoles I have PlayStations 2 through 4 plus a PS TV, Wii/Wii U, Switch, and PC. I often move my consoles around (either for let's play or streaming purposes or to bring them other places), so if you can't find what you're looking for just ask. I don't own any XBox consoles but you're welcome to bring yours if you'd like! Extra consoles, controllers, games, and screens are always welcome; just let me know in advance if you're able so we can plan for it. :) My game & console/controller list is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11LvIAgla39HtYpx9PLf6AaVj7DI3i7ypox8qSj23SCo/edit?usp=drivesdk
When you arrive please park in a space that does NOT have a number; if those aren't available we have lots of open street parking within the Penderbrook community (I'm right in the middle so either side is cool; parking on Center Way or the middle of Penderbrook Drive is best) but please don't park on a yellow curb or you might be towed! You'll want to turn onto Golf RIDGE, and then onto Golf TEE where I'm the first house on the left. When you enter walk all the way up and to the right; look for the Super Mario Bros. doormat. I'm about 10 driving minutes from the Vienna/Fairfax metro station.
We usually go out for dinner at around 5 PM; I live a short drive away from lots of shopping centers including Fair Oaks Mall, Pender, Fairfax Shopping/Towne Center, Fair Lakes Promenade, Fair Lakes Center, and Fairfax Corner.
Here's a list of restaurants in the area by food type: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Mn6ytvuaaGaBlpVT-9pBSh8fv6X8_V9wzl4eQKYzRT0/edit?usp=sharing
And by shopping center location! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DZe-ZY5_hKk9SaCSfyjh2eZLNHXTFQLC0QAW12AnYto/edit?usp=sharing
Please follow the group's rules & guidelines below:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PS-UUkkFQ1JDaMp7pCTSGMu2Rqm58X7srdCzhN0Y-xA/edit?usp=drivesdk
I also have a few more guidelines, but they're pretty easy to follow:
Gaming equipment are not toys. Please be responsible with other people's controllers, consoles, games, furniture, etc. Accidents happen, but if you continuously break things you won't be allowed to use people's equipment.
Try and keep a positive atmosphere. A lot of people attend the group to escape from their daily lives. Don't feel like you need to leave your problems at the door, everyone needs to vent once in a while, but please attempt to not do so the whole meetup. We're here to have fun after all, so try and keep it that way! <3

Ride Leaders
Simona, Kathy, and Jessica
Location
Wakefield Park, Annandale, VA
Schedule
Meet up at 6:30 in the last parking lot. Park in the last parking lot. After you turn into the parking lot, make an immediate right and park (across from the purple recycling bin). We meet there prior to the ride.
All riders joining this ride will need to accept the standard MORE liability waiver form.
**Wheels down at 6:45pm**
Ride will be about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the group. The ride leader(s) will try to start as promptly as possible.
Bring: Trail-ready mountain bike, helmet, tube, and water. Optional: Tools, gloves, snacks, and lights. We will need lights this time of year.
Pace
Casual to moderate pace depending on the group. This is a no-drop ride. (A drop is leaving someone behind who is slower than the group. We won't do that - but if you feel like you are not able to keep up, please let the ride leader know.) All riding abilities are welcome, but it is recommended riders have a few off-road rides under their belts first.
Terrain
Wakefield is generally considered easier to intermediate by most riders. There are a few small stream crossings and some log obstacles. Riders should use good judgment and dismount when in doubt. The ride will typically consist of a mix of single track, fire roads, and other trail sections in the park.

To protect and maintain the trails, the ride will be canceled if weather conditions warrant. Information on closures will be posted here.
