Having children can be a personal, national and global decision. Globally, human population looks unsustainable. But some countries are seeing greater birth rates decline than others, especially in the developed world. At a personal level, the question involves accounting for career trade-offs and other costs. So, do we really need [more] children? We'll discuss... 1\. Do we really *need* to have children? Why? 2\. Why are birth rates declining internationally? 3\. Should government policies incentivise/reward people who decide to have children? *Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore the real life, the grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to hear how others see it.* **\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society—with warm social vibes before and after.\*** **WHAT TO EXPECT:** * Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange. * We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!) * The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30. * 🍕 There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options) * And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling! **DISCUSSION FORMAT:** **Our group conversations are open and flexible - there is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the main questions, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak. Yijia is a singer-songwriter from China interested in exploring her cultural identity and diverse traditions through music-making. Yijia attended 'Sing My Song’ at the age of 16 and launched her music career as a singer-songwriter in China after winning the 16th CMA (Chinese Music Awards) for ‘Media’s Choice Album’ and the nomination for ‘Best New Chinese Female Artist’ for the Chinese Media Music Awards. After coming to the UK, Yijia has established a career in traditional Chinese folk singing and Guzheng playing, having performed at WOMAD festival, Victorious Festival, BBC Radio 3, Asia House’s ‘One Voice’ documentary series and Sofar Sounds London. We have reserved the Chicester Room in ther pub for us . Please ask for Philosophy cafe at the door and they will direct you . We like to break into small groups and have a healthy discussion about life , philosophy and ideas . We break out into groups of 6 to discuss three questions over 45min to 1 hour; and then spend another 45min feeding back into the main group. The three topics are chosen on the day by vote, and largely derived from suggestions on the day. We welcome new ideas , so please come up with suggestions or topics that you want to talk about . There is no specific topic list and you do not need to read or know anything particular about philosophy . The official time is 7-9: 30 pm , but we usually go into a pub mode after 9:30 pm and continue our discusssions.

Join us as we walk the Chiltern Way in stages, discovering picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and hidden gems along the way. This long-distance trail, covering approximately 177 miles, offers a perfect mix of rolling hills, wooded paths, and open fields. From historical landmarks to cosy pubs, each stage of the Chiltern Way promises new discoveries and delightful experiences. *** **Important:** **as public transport is tricky we will instead meet at the end point in Stokenchurch (car park by the old Kings Arm Hotel, see map pin!) and then organise ourselves into as few cars as possible and drive to the start point at Ewelme Recreation Ground for 10.30. At the end, we'll drive the drivers back to their cars. You can meet us in Ewelme but we cannot guarantee enough spots in cars to get back, though we will of course do our best.** *** A rewarding point-to-point walk through the heart of the Chilterns, linking the historic village of Ewelme with the green at Stokenchurch. At 12.5 miles with around 650 metres of ascent, this is a properly hilly day, with lots of ups and downs rather than long sustained climbs. The route winds through classic Chiltern woodland and open fields, offering plenty of variety and some lovely views. Underfoot conditions can be muddy, particularly if there has been lots of rain just before, so come prepared to get muddy! Boots are preferred if possible and please make sure you bring lots of warm layers and a waterproof. We’ll stop for lunch along the route, so please bring a packed lunch and water for the day. There are no toilets en-route. The walk finishes mid to late afternoon on the green at Stokenchurch, and if there's time on the day we'll stop at the pub in Ibstone Common.
