We are writers of all levels – beginners to published. And we meet at STARBUCK at IFC (P2 Shop2097-2098, International Finance Centre), Central for fun writing and sharing sessions! We all write a one-sentence prompt, then each select one at random. We write something based on the prompt for 45 minutes, after which, we share our work with each other and discuss as desired. Of course, sharing is optional but encouraged. (Feedback is always polite and respectful.) Alternatively, you can bring your own project(s) to work on in the company of fellow writers (published and yet-to-be published). You can share your project(s), too, if you want. In this session of HKWD we dive into the world of local models with Google AI. The evening will be held at Garage society with their support along with AngelFlow. The night is split into two parts. One on video game development of Non Player Characters and using GenAI and the other will be The Browser is the Brain: Running Google Gemma Locally with WebGPU. **Talk 1: Video game development of Non Player Characters and using GenAI** Using AI in video games is not a new idea and has been used a long time for things like game mechanics, character movements, path finding, dynamic levels and maps. However using it for non playable charters is new and Google Gemma is designed exactly for that. In this session, Frankie (GDG Hong Kong) explores the frontier of "Local AI" for the web. We will discuss how developers can use Google’s tools to run Gemma models on-device via WebGPU. We’re heading back to Scene75 on Friday, March 27 for a high-energy night of laser tag, mini golf, go-karts, arcade games, and whatever chaos we decide to get into. We’ve done this one before and it was a blast — great turnout, tons of laughs, and just the right mix of competition and hanging out.
