📚 Silent Reading & Socialising 🍺
📚 Silent Reading & Socialising 🍺
## Details The title of the event is a paradox! Read in silence and then discuss with like-minded folks! :-) 📝 **How does this work?** We will meet in the Bartley's Restaurant area from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM for silent reading and followed up by discussion. **During silent reading, you're expected to remain silent and read.** Please bring your headphones and refrain from the discussion during the first one hour in the area. 👥 **Socialising** After an hour, at 8:15 PM, we'll discuss and socialize about the book you're reading. We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event! Feel free to join at any point during the event. The event is indoors, hopefully, we can continue the tradition of the silent reading in the winter! **📌 Helpful Tips and Notes** * Bring headphones to block out surrounding noise * I will post a comment on the event page when I arrive to indicate where we're seated, so everyone can find us * If you prefer to skip the silent reading, you can join directly at the bar at 8:15 PM ⚠️**Something Happened?** If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. It may be small but don't hesitate to reach out to me. Looking forward to meeting you all 😊

Royal Hospital Kilmainham Outdoors Guided Tour
Royal Hospital Kilmainham Outdoors Guided Tour
The Royal Hospital Kilmainham stands on the site of a seventh-century early Christian settlement, replaced in Norman times with a monastery of the Knights Hospitallers. The building as we know it today was begun in 1680. Leading architects such as William Robinson, Thomas Burgh and Francis Johnston made it the starting point for Dublin's development into a city of European standing. Inspired by Les Invalides in Paris, the building was to be a retirement home for old soldiers. Over the next 247 years, thousands of army pensioners lived out their final days within it's walls. In 1991, the Royal Hospital Kilmainham became home to the Irish Museum of Modern Art. IMMA Meeting place: The meeting place is the OPW stand in the central courtyard of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham beside the entrance to the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Our guide will be waiting for us there. Please be there at 1.45pm. Our tour will start at 2pm. This is an outdoor tour, please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. The Baroque Chapel has a private exhibition, and is not available to view. Please only RSVP if you are available and interested in attending.. All members are responsible for their own Health & Safety at meetups. Getting Here: By Luas: Red line to Heuston Station (10 minutes walk via Military Road) By Bus: Buses to Heuston Station (10 mins walk via Military Road), C1, C2, C3, C4 from Aston Quay. Buses to James Street(8 mins walk via steps to Bow Lane onto Irwin Street and Military Road) No.13 from O'Connell St or Dame St; G1 and G2 from Eden Quay . Dublin Independent Movie Lovers: Sound of Falling & Auntie Mame
Dublin Independent Movie Lovers: Sound of Falling & Auntie Mame
Hi, all Independent Movie Lovers. You are invited meet at 7 pm, on Friday the 20th of March. This meeting is at the Café on the ground floor of the Light House Cinema, Smithfield Square, Dublin. We will discuss the film: **Sound of Falling** (2025), directed by Mascha Schilinski. The original German title is 'In die Sonne schauen'. The film chronicles events at a remote German farm in four time periods. We will also discuss: **Auntie Mame** (1958), directed by Morton DaCosta. Auntie Mame is an adaptation of a successful 1956 Broadway play of the same name, and stars Rosalind Russell, who also starred in the stage version. This is the 1958 movie, not the 1974 musical movie called 'Mame'. We will watch the movies independently, and meet for discussion on Friday the 20th of March, at 7 pm, at the Café on the ground floor of the Light House Cinema, Smithfield Square. **Sound of Falling** is showing at Light House Cinema Smithfield, and at the IFI Eustace St, until Thursday the 12th of March. **Auntie Mame** is currently available free on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl5S8vXNyiI Take the opportunity while it lasts. It is available for online rental on Sky Store and Prime Video, and, oddly enough, on YouTube. Michael Sheeran

Friday night social: Let's go to scene 75!
We’re heading back to Scene75 on Friday, March 27 for a high-energy night of laser tag, mini golf, go-karts, arcade games, and whatever chaos we decide to get into. We’ve done this one before and it was a blast — great turnout, tons of laughs, and just the right mix of competition and hanging out. If you missed it last time, this is your shot. 🎯 What to Expect: Laser tag battles Mini golf challenges Go-karts (for those who need speed) Arcade games & game cards You can load however much you’d like onto a game card. Most people will probably be good with $15–$30, but it’s totally up to you. This is a super casual event — show up, jump into whatever looks fun, rotate groups, and hang out. No pressure, no complicated structure. Just a solid Friday night with good people. Also… I haven’t hosted in a bit and I’m making a push to be more active again. If you’ve got ideas for future events you’d love to do, bring them. I’m all ears. Let’s run it back. 🔥
March Book Club Meetup
March Book Club Meetup
Welcome, readers! Our March read is **_The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver._** The story follows Taylor Greer, a young woman from rural Kentucky who leaves home for the West, only to find herself unexpectedly becoming the guardian of an abused Native American toddler named Turtle. In Tucson, Arizona, they form a makeshift family with a diverse group of people, including Guatemalan refugees and a single mother, exploring themes of motherhood, community, belonging, and finding hope in hardship. The story blends humor with serious issues, creating a story about finding family in unexpected places. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading! 📖
