C++ in Finance : an experts round-table
This might be the first time we've had two events in one month!
We have a special *second* March event with a panel of experts from Citadel Securities who will discuss what it's *really* like using C++ in financial systems. The event is timed to be just before the WG21 (C++ standards committee) meeting the following week, so we have some big visiting names.
**Citadel Securities** will be hosting this one and providing a larger venue (the same place they hosted us last summer) with drinks and snacks. Thanks Citadel!
**For this venue we need to collect full names and email addresses** so they can send you a QR code to get in. You will also be sent terms & conditions via Docusign.
The data will only be used for this purpose and not published anywhere or used for other purposes.
Please note that the QR code will be sent from **[notify@22bishopsgate.com](mailto:notify@22bishopsgate.com)** (a send-only address).
If you'd like to speak at a future event please get in touch at [cppldn.uk/speak](http://cppldn.uk/speak).
**Here's the approximate schedule:**
**18:30** *Doors open*
**19:00** "Intro and news" - *Phil Nash*
**19:10** Lightning talks
* Timur Doumler – *C++26 contract assertions*
* Gasper Azman – *std::execution*
* Juan Alday – *Why C++ Is Critical to Finance*
* Carl Cook – *C++26 and Low Latency Systems*
* Herb Sutter – *Reflection + Totality of C++26 and Why it is an important release*
**20:00** Panel Discussion
Herb, Timur, Gasper, Juan and Carl stay with us for a panel, moderated by Allie Tamburro, on the topic of, "*What it’s really like using C++ in financial systems/industry"*
**21:00** *Conclusion, and moving on somewhere else*
\-\-\-
**About the speakers**
*Herb* is a technical fellow at Citadel Securities, designer of several Standard C++ features, and chair of the ISO C++ committee and the Standard C++ Foundation. His current interest is simplifying C++.
*Juan* is a seasoned professional with a rich background in finance and technology. He has a specific focus on C++, and serves as a member of the ISO C++ Standards Committee (WG21) and Vice-Chair for INCITS Programming Languages, US.
His expertise extends to developing high-frequency electronic trading systems, with a focus on derivatives and financial markets. His academic foundation is in computer science and electrical engineering.
*Timur* is a software engineer specialising in low-latency and real-time C++. He works at Citadel Securities and is an active member of the ISO C++ standard committee, where he has (co-)authored many successful proposals including [[assume]], std::inplace_vector, and contract assertions.

Currently developing \`std::execution\` as the basis for general async in C++ and advancing contracts for a safer, more expressive language. Believes the best abstractions are zero-cost — the rest are just category theory you haven't applied yet. C++ London regular.

Thursday Night Gaming
Come and play board games
Join us for tabletop board and card games. Thursday nights are aimed at those with some experience of modern boardgames, and we tend to play more complicated games - anyone who is completely new, or mainly interested in olaying lighter games, should try to come on Mondays. We always try to make sure that someone is happy to teach the games and welcome new people on the night, so don't worry if you're not sure what to play or who to sit with.
Please arrive by 18:45 in time for everyone to get into groups and chat for the main games to start at 19:00.
All attendees are expected to read and follow our [Code of Conduct](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qnLRLEV6whNYpiBu1mqsBaI6CjhbsC6Ersgwj0BCMSg/edit?usp=share_link) and our [Meetup Rules](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QorSIT3I3YA70ClL825cpMlHWWehpiVrrisy_J6zjFE/edit?usp=share_link).
There is no fee for attending the Meetup, but you will need to pay the Ludoquist's games session fee of £8 per person (unless you have a Gold or VIP Ludoquist membership).
Please remember to update your RSVP promptly if you can't make it and please don't attend unless you are confirmed as attending.
Feel free to ask questions in the event chat or comments section for the event, or direct message one of the hosts.
You're also invited to [join our Discord server](https://discord.gg/rWh8aSA) for game related chat and for arranging games outside the Meetup events.
Thursday Tabletop Games at Premiere Cinemas

* **Tuesdays & Thursdays**: From 17:30 to 22:00.

🦁 And we're still running every Monday 6pm to 11pm at the Golden Lion Pub too.
🌭☕ There are hot & cold food & drink options available from the cinema at low prices!
Supporting Premiere Cinema by buying their food & drink IS supporting Dicing With Life! The cinema has been very generous to us by bringing us into their space & our way of showing our gratitude is by sending some business their way.
And their menu is surprisingly cheap! Especially compared to any other cinema.
Here's some cool examples of some great **offers**:
Buy a large **Popcorn** (it's a huge bucket!) or a large **fizzy drink** & it'll initially cost you £4, BUT, take your bucket or cup back to the bar for a **refill** & the cinema will refill it back up to the top for just £2! 🍿🥤
That's half price Popcorn & Pop!
This also applies to **Ice Blasts** too (£5 initially but to refill it's just £3).
There's also Hot Dogs, Nachos, Pick n Mix & many other treats in store too! Check out their menu 😋
If you have any questions, please ask & let the fun commence! 🎲

**What to expect:**
* We meet at the Anerley Arms (next to Anerley train station) from 7pm (there is food available at the bar)

* It is a relaxed atmosphere, where we generally prioritize company over fierce competition.
* Please bring along any games you think we might enjoy, or you can play from the games that others bring.
* We split into a few groups based on people's game preferences and numbers, and usually have plenty of time to try a few games over the course of the evening.
* The event hosts are regular attendees but might not make it to every event - if you can't spot us, then just approach the folks sitting at tables surrounded by board games (usually on left as you come in the door). We're a friendly bunch and will be more than happy to welcome you.

London daytime testing at Waterloo
We playtest all sorts of games - strategic, silly, creative, or whatever. Some games are almost done. Some are very early ideas. We test anything that will fit into 90 minutes.
You don't need to bring a game - we always love to have new playtesters!
Please let us know in the comments when you plan to arrive/leave and whether you are bringing a game or not. This helps us to plan the day better.
The schedule is:
10am onwards - gathering, chatting
11am sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 1')
12:30ish - break for food/chat
1pm sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 2')
2:30ish - break for food/chat
3pm sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 3')
4:30ish - finish up
Often, we might hang around afterwards, to play some already-published games.
We are strict on timings, so please try to arrive a few minutes before the session to limit disruption.
You can just come for part of the day if you wish. The reason we have fixed timings for the 3 'slots' is to make it easier for folk to do so.
Designers of all levels of experience are welcome! But if it's your first time, we ask that you don't bring a game and just spend some time learning how the group works.
The group works based on reciprocation. If you expect to test your own game, make sure stay for long enough to play other games. As a general rule of thumb, you can expect to play one of your own games every third 90-minute session. So if you stay a whole day (3 sessions), you can expect to have one session to play your game(s). A good rule of thumb is that if you come all day, you will have one 90 minute session with two other playtesters in which to test your own games. It is sometimes possible to test games with more players. If your game requires 4 or more, please note that as standard you will be allocated half of a session (45 minutes).
Pre-covid, we were getting unmanageable. As a result, we may have to limit attendees. This is a free-to-use venue, and we have to be mindful that other folk want to use the same space.
Please note: This is an adults only event.
We look forward to seeing you!
Drop-in Saturday Games & Social @ The Thirsty Bear
If you're looking for a laid back Saturday playing some board games and talking nerd stuff in a pub with some awesome people, this is the meetup for you! Whether you're new to London or just want to get some long-lost in-person socialisation, we're a friendly community and welcome you all.
**What to expect:** We officially play from **2 PM to 7 PM**, but we keep it casual. Show up when you can, and stay as long as you like. If you’re having a good time, there’s usually a group that stays late for a few extra pints and chat.
**Some house rules:**
* We aim to ensure these events are friendly, welcoming and safe, and so we ask you abide by our [Code of Conduct](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YEl0gv61SkBFN-YF6fyVvuQYicWbWhRL/view?usp=drive_link)
* We have a community box of games we keep in the pub, but please feel welcome to bring your own games along. Just be prepared to teach us how to play!
* We don't charge a cover fee, so please help support the pub by ordering food and drink throughout the afternoon.
* Please keep your RSVPs updated so we can manage numbers and ensure we can reserve enough tables.

From Web Forms to Web Components - Burton Smith
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way.
