🎳 Let’s play skittles! „Queer Kegeln“
🎳 Let’s play skittles! „Queer Kegeln“
Join our monthly “Queer Kegelabend”, which is mostly a pure fun event with a slight sportive touch. No previous experience required. Beginners and all genders most welcome! It is our ambition to welcome a broadly diversified crowd! Your own omfortable footwear might contribute to an enjoyable evening. **Schedule:** 1. 19:20 Get together 2. 19:25 Instructions (including safety), line-up of participants 3. 19:30 Getting started * *Latecomers unfortunately canÂŽt be admitted.* * *Please bring a few EUR 1 coins to keep the coin operated machinery going.* There is no drinks or food service in the basement (Kegelbahn) of CafĂ© Weidinger. So feel free to order something on arrival and take it downstairs before we get started. Alternatively bring your own drinks or food. Yes, this is possible! Its chatting, meeting (new) people, catching-up with the ones you might already know from our monthly MeetUps at the HIVE or other events. Communication is key, like always. Let’s enjoy a nice evening together with a modest sportive touch on the side! **Please show respect to the others and arrive on time.** As we need to line-up the players before getting starteted, hence late comers unfortunately canÂŽt be admitted. **What is skittles play (Kegeln)?** Skittles play has a very long tradition in Europe and is the game before the Americans "invented" bowling. So we will play with 9 pins and smaller balls with less weight compared to bowling. **Costs:** To rent the skittle alley is just EUR 8 per hour for the whole group. We will divide costs by the number of participants. So expect a contribution of around *EUR 2-3 for the whole evening*. The number of participants is limited. The machinery of the skittle alley is coin operated and accepts EUR 1 coins only. So please bring along a few EUR 1 coins to keep the machinery going! **Participation Fee:** To help cover the Meetup maintenance fee, we recommend a donation of 1-2 Euros directly to the organizers. **Results:** The results of the evening (Igo is so kind to count the scores and enters theses for each participant in a spreadsheet) are published in the "pictures" area of the MeetUp. Historic results are availble there. **Cafe Weidinger** has not been renovated over the last at least 50 years. The skittles alley dates from 1964. You can feel this "special flair". A bit shaby, but inexpensive fun for a whole evening. ItÂŽs almost a museum of a skittles alley. **The difference between bowling and skittles play**: * The bowling lanes are covered with an oil film, the skittles lane is not. * In bowling, the ball is is considerably larger and heavier. * Bowling lanes are slightly curved, our lane is flat. * Bowling balls have three holes, our balls have none, one or two. Most of our balls have two holes. * Nine pins are thrown instead of ten. * In bowling, the pins are set up by so-called pin-setter machines and therefore stand freely in contrast to skittles, where the pins hang from strings. * Our skittles lane is an asphalt lane. * You do not need to rent or bring special shoes llike for bowling. But to play in sneakers or sportive footwear is more comfortable.

Humming Traditions: SODAI - Straw, Form & Wind
Humming Traditions: SODAI - Straw, Form & Wind
An immersive workshop for adults, quiet hands, patient minds, and those who enjoy the slow rhythm of creation. Limited spots. The group is limited to 8 people. You can secure your place by purchasing a ticket through the link: https://doobeedoo-goodies.sumupstore.com/produkt/humming-traditions-sodai-straw-form-and-wind Date: 25th of February Time: 18:30—20:30 (it might take longer, depending on group tempo) Location: DooBeeDoo Goodies Atelier (MĂ€rzstraße 86, 1150 Vienna) Step into the gentle rhythm of creation and discover Sodai, traditional Lithuanian straw mobiles that once filled homes with balance, harmony, and quiet beauty. In this workshop, we will explore the geometry of air, learning how to prepare and string straw into delicate symmetrical forms that sway softly with every breeze. Piece by piece, your hands will follow the same patterns that generations before us used to invite order and peace into their homes. You’ll learn the basic techniques of straw preparation, stringing, and construction, and experience how a simple natural material can transform into something light, precise, and full of meaning. Together, we’ll move through a calm, meditative process, each gesture connecting thought, breath, and creation in quiet balance. By the end, you’ll leave not only with your own handmade Sodas, a timeless ornament carrying both heritage and your creative touch, but also with the knowledge, focus, and stillness that this ancient craft awakens. It feels less like finishing an object and more like completing a gentle ritual of patience and peace. To keep the experience personal and attentive, the group will be small and intimate, space is limited, so that every participant can receive individual guidance and care. This workshop invites you to slow down, focus, and reconnect — with your hands, your thoughts, and the quiet poetry of simple materials. No previous experience is needed, only patient hands, a calm mind, and an eye for quiet detail. Humming Traditions is a series of creative workshops that explore the living, breathing essence of cultural practices. Each event invites participants to connect with ancient techniques, natural materials, and artistic expression in a hands-on, immersive experience. The series celebrates the quiet resonance of tradition, the subtle vibrations, textures, and forms that have carried meaning through centuries. Whether through sound, movement, or craft, Humming Traditions is about experiencing culture as a living, dynamic, and tactile art form. Each workshop stands on its own yet shares a common thread: creativity, mindfulness, and a connection to nature and heritage. Participants leave with newly learned skills, a calm mind, and a deeper appreciation for cultural artistry.

Fellowship of the Western Mysteries Monthly Pub Moot!
**Monthly "Pub Moot" and Lecture Series- *in English*** Pub Moots will generally be held on the **4th Wednesday** of every month. Sometimes there will be exceptions based on what is going on, so make sure to check back here on Meetup for the exact information All are welcome- experienced practioners, newbies, merely curious, Wiccans and Wiccan-curious and practitioners of similar traditions and those who have no idea why they want to come but just do and even those who don't know a thing but simply like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and suchlike... :-) **This Month’s Topic: The Wetiko mind virus - Are we living in a collective mass psychosis?** Have you ever felt that something in our perception of reality seems fundamentally wrong, that something just feels off, but maybe you cannot pinpoint it? What sounds like the Matrix might have a very real basis. In this talk we will explore the radical ideas based on the books of author Paul Levi inspired by the scientific work of Jack D. Forbes and Native American folklore. We will investigate the modern notion of the Wetiko disease, how it relates to troubles in personal and global human affairs, to religion and spirituality, to Jungian and body psychology and to the evermore apparent mental health crisis. And finally we will discuss some approaches that will hopefully enable us to heal this unknown sickness and awaken from our personal and collective nightmares. **General schedule of the evening:** 19:00- 19:30- Meetup, time to eat and socialize 19:30- 20:30- Lecture and Discussion 20:30-21:00 and beyond- Open discussion and more socializing- eat, drink, and be merry! **Attendance is free** but you will need to buy something at the pub. :-) *(The Pub is old-school Austrian and cash-only, so bring paper money! :-))*

Open Dialogue – Discovering Together in Vienna
Open Dialogue – Discovering Together in Vienna
We will meet in a calm and friendly place ( Parc, CafĂ©, Restaurant) to explore together some of Jiddu Krishnamurti’s key questions about awareness, relationship, and freedom. There will be no teaching, no authority — only open dialogue and attentive listening. Everyone is welcome, whether you are familiar with Krishnamurti or simply curious about life and self-understanding. We’ll start with an open conversation around a theme such as “Listening without judgment” or “Can thought bring clarity?” Please bring openness, curiosity, and a readiness to listen — no books or notes needed. The spirit is not to discuss “what should be,” but to observe together “what is.”

Every other Thursday at Die Schenke, Piaristengasse 33, 1080 Vienna. Please be prepared to give a donation of 7 Euros for the rent of the room.

Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Frank Buschelmann** **Band: The Rosenthorns** **Big Scioty Contra Dance** **temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
February Book Club Meetup
February Book Club Meetup
Welcome, readers! Our February read is **_1984 by George Orwell._** In 1984, George Orwell imagines a world where the government watches everyone, rewrites reality, and punishes even private thoughts. Winston Smith dares to question this system, believing that truth and love might still exist. His rebellion draws him into a chilling struggle against a power that knows him better than he knows himself. The novel leaves readers asking whether freedom is possible when reality itself can be controlled. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading!
