Quick New Year's Eve road bike tour to the Greifenstein power station
The last bike tour for 2025, take the opportunity and finish strong with a new personal record!
We will meet up north of the danube right next to the bike rentral "Fahrradverleih Copa Beach".
From there, we follow the Danube Cycle Path (Donauradweg) heading upstream along the northern bank of the Danube River. This well-maintained path offers us scenic views of the river and the surrounding nature. We pass through a charming smalller town or two and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the riverside. Continuing along the path, we eventually reach the Greifenstein power plant, a notable landmark along the Danube. Halfway through we'll take a short 5-10 minute break.
For our return trip, we cross the river at the Greifenstein power plant using the bridge or designated crossing point. Once on the southern bank, we follow the Danube Cycle Path downstream. This route provides us with a different perspective of the river and takes us through lush landscapes and picturesque areas. We continue along the path until we arrive back at Copabeach.
**Distance:** 45 km
**Elevation gain:** 100 m
**Max altitude:** 182 m
**Average speed:** 23-25 km/h (if we don't have significant headwind). This bike tour is not for everyone. Please only participate if you feel fit enough for this average speed. If you're too slow, we'll wait once or twice, but sooner or later you'll be left behind if you can't keep up.
**Note:** The route is almost 100% asphalted. A road bike is recommended.

Start 2026 Moving: New Year’s Day Walk at the Mühlwasser
Hi everyone 👋
A bit short notice, but maybe just right for a fresh start:
**Tomorrow, January 1st, 2026**, I’m planning a relaxed New Year’s walk along the **Mühlwasser**. Perfect for getting off the holiday couch, collecting a few easy steps for your New Year’s resolutions — and with a bit of luck, catching some winter sunshine 🌤️
**Meeting point:**
📍 **U2 station Stadtlau**, ground floor, opposite the pharmacy (Exit **Kaisermühlenstraße)**
🕐 **1:00 p.m.**
From there, we’ll start the **Mühlwasserrunde**, an easy and scenic loop through the Lobau: calm (and cold) Danube side arms, forests and wide open paths — quiet, flat and ideal for a gentle start into the year.
**Route details:**
* Duration: approx. **3 hours**
* Distance: approx. **10 km**
* Elevation gain: minimal (mostly flat)
* Difficulty: **easy**
[https://www.bergfex.at/sommer/niederoesterreich/touren/wanderung/589258,muehlwasserrunde/](https://www.bergfex.at/sommer/niederoesterreich/touren/wanderung/589258,muehlwasserrunde/)
We’ll walk at a comfortable, social pace and take short breaks as needed. There are no huts or restaurants along the way, so please bring your own snacks and drinks (at least **1 liter of water**).
It will be cold, so dress warmly and wear sturdy winter-appropriate shoes. Some sections may be muddy or slightly icy, depending on the weather — nothing dramatic.
Some people from my other group will also join.
As always: this is a **free, private leisure activity**. I’m not a certified hiking guide, and participation is at your own responsibility and risk.
Looking forward to starting the new year outdoors together 🙂

Wild boar hike to Rudolfswarte and Hochramalpe So. 4.01.2026
Hi everyone,
On **Sunday, 4.01.2026,** I am planning a hike to the Rudolfswarte near Purkersdorf. We start in Purkersdorf bei Wien Sanatorium train stop and hike to Rudolfswarte and on to the wild boar enclosure near Deutschwald, where the wild boars are waiting to be petted and to Untertullnerbach train station. Here is the possibility to go home by train after a 10km hike. For people who want to hike more, we continue to the Hochramalpe and further to Purkersdorf near Vienna train station.
So there are **two hiking options** of different lengths:
1\. Purkersdorf bei Wien Sanatorium train stop to Untertullnerbach station:
Length of the tour: approx. 10km
**Duration: approx. 3.5h**
Altitude difference: approx. 350m up and 300m down
2\. Purkersdorf bei Wien Sanatorium train stop to Purkersdorf bei Wien train station:
Length of the tour: approx. 19km
**Duration: approx. 6.5h**
Altitude difference: approx. 700m up and 700m down
There are also **two possible meeting points**:
1. **Wien Westbahnhof at 8:45 a.m**. on the level of the platforms at the ticket machine next to the many seating areas and next to the InfoPoint of the ÖBB (see picture in the attachment) and leave together at 8:56 a.m. from platform 4. Since Purkersdorf Santorium is still in the Kernzone 100, a ticket of Wiener Linien (or the annual ticket of Wiener Linien) is sufficient for the outward journey. Everyone is responsible for the train ticket.
2\. Or directly at the start of the hike in Purkersdorf bei **Wien Sanatorium train stop at 9:12h platform 2**. Everyone has to bring their own food and drink (at least 1 liter), as we will not stop for a bite to eat. We take two to three breaks to rest and eat as needed.
I will be waiting at Wien Westbahnhof.
Some people from my other group will also join.
I will contact everyone, who has registered, on Friday evening with a weather update. For sure it will become quite frosty on Sunday.
My hikes and mountain hikes are free of charge and purely private joint leisure events. I am not a certified hiking or mountain guide. Participation is at your own responsibility and risk.
Run+B-fast
Hi Running fellows,
Whether you’re a walker, new to running, a semi-pro, a marathonist or a sprint star - if you want to start your weekend in an active way and enjoy the outdoors in lovely surroundings with a fun, international and multilingual group of people, you are welcome to join us!
Every Saturday at 9:30 am, we meet, we run, in the magnificent Schönbrunn park, and then we go for breakfast.
Want to discuss politics or the best recipes for banana pancakes? Not a problem. Not feeling social? Tune out with your earbuds - we can talk over breakfast. We are casual. You can be too.
What to expect: Start by meeting Adrian, Ali, Liz, Paul and Sonia on-time at 9:30am outside the Schönbrunn U-Bahn stop (exit Grünbergstraße). (Coordinates: 48.1858130, 16.3200640) From there, we walk to the side park entrance where the “running” part begins. The important thing is that you run at your own pace. Typically, small groups of people will run at the same pace as you, so you never have to walk/run alone :)
We finish one hour later, at about 10:40am, reconvening just inside the Hietzinger Tor exit. (Coordinates: 48.1858825, 16.3032647). From there, we’re off to breakfast!
Breakfast Details: Anker bakery opposite the U4 Hietzing station and depending on the weather, grab something for a picnic in Schönbrunn park, or hang out in the bakery. If you missed us earlier, you can always go there around 10:45.
We are a fun group of runners who don’t take things too seriously. We meet, chat, RUN, stretch, chat, EAT and we hang out over a beer every now and then. It's that easy. Please join us for breakfast after the run! The more the merrier.
Typically we are 10-30 people, as not everyone who comes signs up on meetup.
Important disclaimer: Please only run as much as you feel you can, considering the temperature, weather conditions, your own fitness etc... run and walk at your own pace as the organizers do not assume any liability for any injuries or health issues. Sonia, Adrian, Ali, Paul and Liz

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋
**IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...**
[The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up.
