The East Melbourne Leafy Gardens and Evening Wander - 1.5 Hours + Easy
**đż Eat Drink Dance Melbourne: The East Melbourne Garden Wander & Post Valentine De-Brief đż**
**When**:Wednesday 18 February
**Meet**: 6:00pm
**Start**: 6:15pm sharp-ish (we respect punctuality⌠but only in theory)
**Meeting point**: Corner of the Old Treasury Building & Treasury Gardens, Spring St
**Duration**: ~1.5 hours
**Finish**: Transport Bar at Fed Square or one of the floating Yarra bars for drinks & dinner
**Vibe**: Flirty, leafy, semiâexploratory chaos with excellent company
**đ The Mission (Should You Choose Your Own Adventure)**
This is not a normal walk.
This is a chooseâyourâownâromanticâcomedyâopeningâscene kind of walk.
**Weâll drift through**:
- The Treasury Gardens (soft lighting, perfect for accidental eye contact)
- The Fitzroy Gardens (where half the trees look like theyâve seen things)
- The gorgeous old terraces of East Melbourne (heritage architecture judging our life choices)
- A pilgrimage to the MCG parklands (Aussie sacred ground, where legends are made and we pretend we know stats)
- Then somehow â through charm, improvisation, and mild navigational chaos â weâll find our way to the Yarra
- And wander back via Birrarung Marr, glowing in the evening light like a group of very wholesome troublemakers
The route is semiâplanned, which is a polite way of saying:
Mark is making it up on the go,
**đž Pets Welcome**
Dogs and cats are absolutely invited to frillick (yes, frillick) with us.
If your cat walks on a leash, they automatically become the main character.
**đ¸ The AfterâParty**
Weâll wrap up at Transport Bar or one of the floating Yarra bars for:
- Drinks
- Dinner
- Flirtation
- Debriefing about which tree was the prettiest
- And possibly scouting for a lastâchance Valentine in case the 14th was a dud.
**⨠The Vibe**
Think:
- Playful
- Social
- Lightly romantic
- A little mischievous
- And very Eat Drink Dance Melbourne
**Bring**:
- Comfortable shoes
- A sense of humour
- Someone youâd like to âaccidentallyâ walk next to
- Or just yourself â the group energy will do the rest
**â° Timing & Rules (or lack thereof)**
This is a social wander, not a Swiss train.
Weâll aim to start at 6:15pm, but letâs be honest â weâre a group of charming chaos gremlins and it might drift a little.
Leave whenever you like. Stay for the whole thing.
Disappear mysteriously halfway through like a romantic subplot.
Itâs all good.
**đŤ No Rules, No Pressure**
This is one of the rare small-group events where Iâm not enforcing any attendance rules.
No-shows wonât be banished.
Late arrivals wonât be judged but we may not be there when you get there.
Ghosting is allowed (but only if itâs stylish).
As the Nirvana song goes:
Come as you are.
Come along â or donât.
Weâll be wandering and frolicking either way.

Starting from 'Walker Fountain Kings Domain' we walk along the tan track, towards MCG, Fitzroy Gardens and back to where we started. En route, we stop by for a coffee station for a quick rest.
We meet at 10:30am for a 10:40am start. If you arrive late or you're waiting for your coffee order, you can catch up at Shrine of Remembrance around 11:00am (we will be at flames).
If you're new to the group, come along and meet some of the regular hikers and suggest your favorite hiking locations for the coming months.
The pace will be moderately brisk towards fast. We will not be stopping often to regroup. I will pause at the turns to help ensure no one misses them. **By attending, you agree to match the pace and stay in sight of the group or be comfortable navigating your own way to the destination.**
With the variability of this kind of event I will book a best guess close to the event and we will find extra tables or seats on the day if needed. We arrive just as the venue opens. The 'Going' list is for the walk and booking to keep the group size manageable. If you're on the 'Waitlist', you're welcome to join at the venue from 12pm and find your own table or grab a drink and mingle. If you miss out this month, look out for this again next month.
By attending, you agree to drink responsibly and take public transport if you're drinking.

* Water bottle
* Appropriate clothing if it's windy or possibility of rain
* Hats/Sunglasses/Sun protection if it's sunny

**đ Delectable Summer Evening Social Stroll: Full Yarra Bend Circuit - Moderate to Difficult**
**Saturday 17 January - 4.30 PM AM..Arrive at 4.15 PM please**
Join us for a long, lazy, laughterâfilled summer evening social stroll tracing the full Yarra Bend circuit â a gorgeous loop of river bends, bushland, boardwalks, rising flying foxes and iconic Melbourne nooks. This is our expanded version of the smaller Yarra Bend walk many of you enjoyed, now stretched into a full, flirty, scenic adventure.
*Now that I've done the walk, I have to update the difficulty level lol. Its mostly easy but there are rough sections that you could expect in a proper bushwalk*
***+++Ensure you read the rules at the end before joining. Registering = agreeing to them+++***
Weâll begin at the Abbotsford Convent, (or more specifically st the Collingwood children's farm entrance), wander past Dights Falls, pause for snacks at the Studley Park Boathouse, and follow the riverâs contours through some of the most beautiful natural pockets in inner Melbourne. Expect birdsong, breezes, shady gums, and plenty of social mingling along the way.
You can choose your own finale:
* 11 km Full Yarra Bend Circuit ending back at the Convent, or
* 14 km Extended Merri Creek Trail Option finishing at Rushall Station for those who want a little extra summer sparkle in their step.
đ **Timing**
Meet at 4:15 p.m. at the gates of the Collingwood Childrenâs Farm (about 50m from the Convent entrance at the end of the road).
**\- Walk begins at 4:30 p\.m\. sharp\. hopefully after the worst heat of the day and on the beautiful late afternoon coolness**.
* Expect 3â4 hours depending on pace, weather, silly jokes, banter, and snack enthusiasm. My priority is having a relaxing time so I'm not following a strict timetable.
**â MidâWalk Pause**
Weâll stop at Studley Park Boathouse or the Golf course cafe ror more reliable coffee,, a sit down cold drinks, or a light bite. Bring a little cash or card if youâd like to indulge.
**đś Route Highlights**
* The leafy bends of the Yarra
* Dights Falls lookout
* Riverbank boardwalks and shaded bushland
* Roosting Flying Foxes
* Abbotsford Convent
* Studley Park Boathouse
* Optional Merri Creek extension to Rushall Station
* Plenty of photo spots, conversation pockets, and natureâsoaked moments
**đ Getting There**
* Train to Victoria Park Station is the easiest option, followed by a short walk to the Convent.
* Parking at the Convent can be a gamble on weekends â arrive early if youâre trying your luck or choose elsewhere.
**đ Stuff to know**
The walk cam be quite rough in a few places, expect some minor scrambles on rough and slippery ground
**đż What to Bring**
* Comfortable walking shoes
* Comfortable walking clothes
* Water 2 litres
* Sunscreen and a hat
* A light snack if you like
* Curiosity, good humour, and your best summer social energy
đWhat not to bring
* Purses, Tote bags, long dresses
* Clothes more suitable for Chadstone than a rough urban hike
* Jeans aren't a good idea.
**â ď¸ Group Rules and Event Etiquette â ď¸**
These are basic, commonsense standards that keep events safe, smooth, and enjoyable for everyone.
**Fitness Requirements**:
This should be an easy to moderate walk for people with average fitness.
Ensure you can walk around 4km/hr for about 4 hours with breaks. Walk 15km comfortably with a small pack.
We walk at a relaxed pace. Please ensure you meet the fitness level for the event. If the group is forced to wait excessively, you may be asked to leave the event.
**âšď¸ Pace: Too Fast or Too Slow**
Small social group events rely on staying together. If you prefer a very different pace, consider attending solo, joining a faster/slower group, or choosing events that match your fitness..
**đŠâđź Time Constraints**
If youâre on a tight schedule, this may not be the right event. Social activities rarely run exactly on time
**â ď¸ CRITICAL EXPECTATIONS â ď¸**
**đť NoâShows**
Noâshows block waitlisted people from attending and disrupt small-group events.
* Remove yourself at least 24 hours before the event.
* Noâshows will likely be removed and blocked from the group.
* Lastâminute cancellations (âflakingâ) may also result in removal, especially when there is a waitlist.
**đ Attending Without Being on the Going List**
This is a security issue.
**Do NOT turn up unannounced**.
If youâre not on the Going list and havenât arranged it with the organiser beforehand, you will be asked to leave. Event checkâins are being introduced
**â° Late Arrivals**
If youâre late, the group will not wait.
* You may be marked as a NoâShow and removed from the group.
* Itâs your responsibility to communicate and catch upâthis may not be possible for some events.
**đ˛ Second Chances**
If something goes wrong, attempt to communicate with the organiser. Silence + poor behaviour = removal. Communication + accountability = second chances.
This may not be possible during the event as the organiser is busy organising.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started â but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome â please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. đ¤ đ
