New Year Fast Friending – Meet new friends! (21-40/Drink Offer)
Start the new year by meeting like-minded ladies and gents! Join us for a relaxed Fast Friending evening where connecting feels natural and fun. Share the festive spirit, make new friends, and step into 2026 with fresh energy and meaningful new connections. 🎉
**You will need to buy a ticket for attending -**
[https://lux10thjan.eventbrite.co.uk](https://lux10thjan.eventbrite.co.uk)
\*You can use any debit or credit card to purchase your ticket at PayPal checkout. It will ask you for your email address but that is only to send you a receipt. You do not need a PayPal account.
TICKETS:-
Early Bird - €5 / person
Regular Ticket - €10 / person
Cash at meetup: If you do not purchase a ticket in advance then you can pay Shye cash of €15 when you attend.
**Here’s how our Fast Friending works:-**
\- We will meet at 7\.00 and have time to get settle down and get a drink\.
\- From about 7\.30 to 8\.30 we will run the fast friending system\. Half of the group \(mixed gender\) will stay in a fixed place and the other half of the group \(mixed gender\) will be asked to rotate\. During these intervals\, each pair of people will get the opportunity to talk to each other\.
\- Shye will be hosting the evening and she will organize the fast friending process\. She will indicate when you should move to the next person\.
\- From 8\.30 onwards we will stop the system and people will have to chance go chat and interact with those they have met as well as others\.
If you are a bit shy or anxious then please come early. Shye will help you meet other members in a small group and help you settle down and get comfortable. All attendees are also welcome to bring a lady friend along with them for free. This will make it a lot less stressful for you as you will always have your friend alongside.
\- We are not a close knit tight group\. Our evenings are warm and comfortable for members attending for the first time and those coming alone\. You will not feel alone\!
\- We have many groups in this city\. Members of our other groups who RSVP are included as guests of the organisers in order to give you an indication of expected people\.
\- This evening is for ladies and gents in the 25 to 45 age group\. While some will be at the younger end of this range there will also be others at the other end of the range and lots in\-between\! You will naturally gel with others of your own age range and so you will always find many attendees who fit your range\.
\- We are not a dating group\. Our events are not organised to manage your dating life\. Our group is created to help ladies and gents meet other like minded ladies and gents\. Please do not attend our event if a perfect gender balance is important for your enjoyment of our meet\-up\.
Why do we have tickets?
1. Cover our costs - Our host is compensated for their time and work. We also pay meetup and have dedicated staff to manage our events, hosts, venues and communication.
2. Group Safety - By securing your ticket we have a record and you contribute to a well organized evening where everyone is more committed and better behaved.
3. Management - Tickets help us better manage attendee group size, book suitable space and activity.

Ai & Coffee
**⚡ AI & Coffee – In-Person Meetup in Luxembourg**
Since the community has been growing, we’re hosting the next event on Sunday 11th January from 15h00-17h00 in Updown Bar (Downstairs)
Based on the great feedback last time, feel free to bring your laptops if you’d like to show your work. People were very open to sharing approaches and projects, which sparked some truly deep conversations. Looking forward to meeting you all again, and also welcoming those who couldn’t make it last time.
AI is moving so fast that it’s hard to keep up alone. The best way to make sense of it is by meeting others, exchanging ideas, and hearing fresh perspectives. That’s what this meetup is about.
☕ We’ll gather in a local café for open conversations about:
* AI news and trends (what’s real, what’s hype)
* Sharing projects, ideas, and feedback
* Supporting each other and creating new stories
* Building connections with like-minded people
👥 **Who’s welcome?**
Developers, entrepreneurs, investors, mentors, students, researchers, creatives — and anyone simply curious about AI.
💡 **What to expect**
* Casual atmosphere, no commitment, no pressure
* The host will share small icebreakers and sparks of AI news
* The rest is up to you: meet, talk, connect, and exchange
🎉 The only cost is your own coffee or drink. Bring your curiosity and an open mind — and let’s build one of the most exciting AI communities in the area.
Nice to Meet You Coffee ☕ What Are Our Hopes for This Group in 2026?
Let’s meet for a great coffee at Lyoid. Let’s get to know each other and explore how we can make this group a fun and welcoming place to meet. Together, we’ll define the potential events this group could host in 2026.
**Optional, if time allows or if in the mood:**
Take a moment to celebrate the wins and positive moments from 2025. From there, we can shift our focus to 2026—dream a little bigger, define what we truly want to achieve, and map out clear, realistic steps to make it happen.
I’ll bring some materials to help us turn ideas into actionable plans and keep the energy focused and productive.
Coffee or food will be at your own expense, but the motivation and clarity should be well worth it.
Looking forward to an inspiring conversation.
Amusing Ourselves to Death
**Attention**: Based on past no shows, everyone will start on a waiting list by default. Once you confirm (in a comment or by PMing me) that you’ve actually read the book, I’ll move you to the “going” list. Thanks for understanding!
*People will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.*
Neil Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death
Written in the age of television, Amusing Ourselves to Death feels even more urgent now, when Instagram, TikTok, and endless feeds turn news into spectacle and conversation into content. We’ll look at what Postman got right, what he couldn’t have foreseen, and how his ideas map onto today’s attention economy.
The question is the same: when everything is packaged as entertainment, what happens to our attention, our public talk, and our sense of what’s real?

Friday Happy hour for the over 50 crowd at Dublin’s Pint House
**Come anytime during 4-8. Stay as long as you want. No set time***
It’s a chance to meet people in our age group regardless if you’re in your fifties, sixties or seventies! Retired or still working.
Freestyle + 3rd Annual Great Chili Cook Off
**3rd Annual Great Chili Cook Off**: Calling All Cooks! This is your shot at dethroning our 2-time repeat Chili Champion and claim the 1st place Chef's Cap and Apron for yourself. Second and Third place winners will also receive a cap and apron.
This is often one of our more well-attended events so please RSVP early and come hungry.
Members will be given a ticket to vote for their favorite chili. No campaigning this year please. Let the chili speak for itself (no, not like that. I know what you are thinking. Stop that.)
**On Freestyle night** \- just bring a bottle to share\. There is NO formal wine tasting like on other weeks\. Door charge is $10 \(cash or Venmo only please\)\. We may have some left over wines to clear out\! Glasses are provided\. Take Care\. See you there\.
**Parking**: There are several public parking lots near the Alive614 hall. Please be careful to NOT park in private parking lots. They do tow. Check Google maps to scope out your space. Anyone who is early could easily find a parking space on the street nearby. I am told that the Chase parking lot is safe after hours.
**Glasses**: …will be provided. Please note that after the wine tasting, the EMPTY glasses need to be returned to the boxes at the service table. Please do not make me hunt down your empty glass. Please be gentle, our glasses are fragile. Uh, they are made of glass!
**Food**: You are welcome to bring a snack to share. It is not required. Most people do though. If no one brings anything, there will be nothing.
**Code of Conduct**: Though mostly understood, it’s still worth mentioning. We don’t have rules per se, but we highly discourage the following topics of discussion because they are likely to incite anti-social responses - Sex, Politics, Religion. Please don’t mistake this as an attempt to limit your free speech rights but rather a guide to a place and time for appropriate discussions.
**After the lights go out**: After the last sip of wine, when we clean up and turn the lights out, if you still haven’t had enough of us, it is typical for a group to get together and go to a local eatery for food and/or drinks or coffee.
Again, We look forward to meeting new members and reuniting with old friends.
Sincerely, ***Paul Uttermohlen***,

Wine Tasting - Newcomers Night
This is "***New Members Night***." If you are one of the many folks on the fence about coming to your first wine tasting with the *Hilliard Wine Club*, this is the night to come. There will be many other new people, so you won't be alone. And the regulars will be there to help make you feel welcome. We're a relaxed and warm group. We hope to see you.
**SIDE NOTE:** New members are welcome to ALL our Friday night wine tastings, but this night is a special overture to those who don't want to feel that they are the only new person in the room. Don't worry. You won't be. And don't hesitate to RSVP to other events.
**OLD MEMBERS NOTE**: Hey Old Members! You're not excluded from this event. We expect to see you there to help make the new members feel welcome.
**Sample 4 different wines** this Friday for $15 (*Cash or Venmo only please*). Glasses are provided. Bring a snack to share. Bring a bottle to share if you care to. See all the details below for the Hilliard Wine Club Wine Tasting. In Person. In Real Life. Actual Wine from glass bottles with corks and everything.
**Wine**: Tastings will be $15 for four samples as always. And you are welcome to bring a bottle of your favorite wine to share with others. Participation in the wine tastings is optional. But since you’re going, I will buy enough wine to cover you. If you bring your own wine and do not participate in the tasting you will only pay $10 to cover the door charge.
**Parking**: There are several public parking lots near the Alive614 hall. Please be careful to NOT park in private parking lots. They do tow. Check Google maps to scope out your space. Anyone who is early could easily find a parking space on the street nearby.
**Glasses**: …will be provided. Please note that after the wine tasting, the glasses need to be returned to the boxes at the service table. Please be gentle, our glasses are fragile. Uh, they are made of glass!

**Extra Wine**: After everyone has had their samples, we remove the pouring spouts and any remaining wine is poured freely to whomever wants it. I hate having leftover wine.
**Queen of Hearts**: The Queen of Hearts raffle is a fundraiser for the club and a Barnum and Bailey type extravaganza - minus the dancing ponies, clowns, and actual circus. Bring your ***cash*** as the Queen does not accept American Express or other plastic.
**After the lights go out**: After the last sip of wine, when we clean up and turn the lights out, if you still haven’t had enough of us, it is typical for a group to get together and go to a local eatery for food and/or drinks or coffee.

Freestyle 400 + Smashburgers!
**400**: Amazingly, this is our 400th event! A big, big, big thank you to all the members who have made the Hilliard Wine Club a great place to meet friends and drink wine. Thank you.
**Smashburgers**: We'll close the doors at Alive614 a little early this evening to take a short trip to Wilson's, a new restaurant/bar that replaced Yabo's. I'm going for the smash burgers, but if that's not in your culinary wheelhouse they have a fairly generous menu featuring "Smash burgers, wings, Tex‑Mex", etc. : https://wilsonshilliard.com/menu/ .
