MORE Tuesday Night Women's+ Ride @ Wakefield
Tuesday Night Women's+ Ride at Wakefield
This is the women's+ night ride at Wakefield Park in Annandale, Virginia. Brought to you by MORE.
**Sign the ride waiver here:** [https://x.gldn.io/e/Wc3cUSEpC1b](https://x.gldn.io/e/Wc3cUSEpC1b)
Ride Leaders
Simona, Kathy, and Jessica
Location
Wakefield Park, Annandale, VA
Schedule
Meet up at 6:30 in the last parking lot. Park in the last parking lot. After you turn into the parking lot, make an immediate right and park (across from the purple recycling bin). We meet there prior to the ride.
All riders joining this ride will need to accept the standard MORE liability waiver form.
**Wheels down at 6:45pm**
Ride will be about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the group. The ride leader(s) will try to start as promptly as possible.
Bring: Trail-ready mountain bike, helmet, tube, and water. Optional: Tools, gloves, snacks, and lights. We will need lights this time of year.
Pace
Casual to moderate pace depending on the group. This is a no-drop ride. (A drop is leaving someone behind who is slower than the group. We won't do that - but if you feel like you are not able to keep up, please let the ride leader know.) All riding abilities are welcome, but it is recommended riders have a few off-road rides under their belts first.
Terrain
Wakefield is generally considered easier to intermediate by most riders. There are a few small stream crossings and some log obstacles. Riders should use good judgment and dismount when in doubt. The ride will typically consist of a mix of single track, fire roads, and other trail sections in the park.
Directions
https://more-mtb.org/collections/virginia-trails/products/wakefield-park
Weather
To protect and maintain the trails, the ride will be canceled if weather conditions warrant. Information on closures will be posted here.
Fairland Advanced Ride (Parking @ The Ice House)
Come join us for a 11-12 mile ride at a Fairland. We normally average 10mph+.
Wheels rolling at 6pm unless someone texts me they're running a little late.
We normally do 10-12 miles. This ride is more for faster than average riders due to the pace. We wait up at intersections to let all riders catch up. If you have a good amount of rides under your belt and can average 8mph or better on singletrack trails, and take small brakes, then you will probably will be able to hang but it will be a challenge.
About Fairland: 90% non-technical ride with few major climbs and no mandatory obstacles (they all have ride-arounds). There are a couple good places to stop and practice log-overs, and balance on the boardwalks, and some good flow trails. We will visit the skills pit but be advised, there are drops, jumps, skinnies, and overall technical features that will require the appropriate experience. Always take caution and know your technical ability limits.
Video of our ride at Fairland: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1-b0EDVb08](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1-b0EDVb08)
What to bring: Plenty of water, helmet (no helmet no ride), your mtb of course!, multi-tool (although you can borrow mine), patch kit, extra tube (make sure it has the same valve you need for your wheel), a snack if you're doing both loops.

Welcome to The Koffee Klatch! These rides were originally based off the Arlington Loop where we visit different area coffee shops or bakeries for a cup and/or treat if desired but you don't have to drink or even like coffee to participate.
This week we will return to Vienna to celebrate **Innergize Day** because Fall has fell and we want to do something for ourselves.
The ride is a 18.7 mile medium(-) level ridden at a social pace (11-13 mph). We will get on the W&OD from the Bluemont Park Parking Lot and take the W&OD, I-66 Parallel Trail and some neighborhood streets to Vienna for coffee at the Frame Coffee Roasters. Afterwards we will zip back downhill on the W&OD to the starting point.

For your riding pleasure NoVA CBG presents: Tuesday Night Rides (TNR) B-Group Edition - Belle Haven
This is an interesting urban route as we'll start in Shirlington and ride down Mt. Vernon Trail past the Woodrow Wilson bridge to Belle Haven park (water fountain / restroom). We will then come home through Old Town Alexandria, via the legendary hill "Medusa" and the King Street Climb back to Shirlington.
* The "B" group will go out to Belle Haven Park and turn back with a total of 15 miles (12.5 miles if you decide to turn around at Jones point).
We will be traveling on some streets in Old Town Alexandria so **riders must be aware & comfortable with vehicle surroundings!**
This is the Medium level ride because we're going to keep a pace of 13-15mph on flat stretches (slower on hills) and the total distance is approximately 15 miles.
This is a NO DROP ride so you will not be left behind but you are expected to try to keep a B-Group level pace (NFT 15mph).

**About Jones Point Lighthouse**
The lighthouse is one of the last riverine lighthouses in the country and the only one still standing in the Chesapeake Bay area. It was first lit on May 3, 1856 by keeper George L. Deeton.
Today it is the focal point of Jones Point Park and a clue to area's history as a busy commercial center and naval base.
Whale oil lamps were originally used to power the beacon at Jones Point, but in 1858 the Lighthouse Board allowed an Alexandria gas company to extend lines to the station.
The land included one of the original District of Columbia boundary stones, which was installed by George Washington and marked the southern point of the ten-mile-square district.
The stone is still visible today in the seawall just south of the lighthouse, and to the north of the lighthouse a marker designating the boundary between Maryland-Virginia can be seen.
**About Fort Foote**
Fort Foote was constructed in 1863 atop Rozier's Bluff to strengthen the ring of fortifications that encircled Washington, D.C. Two of the Guns that protected Washington are still there along with the remains of the fort's earthworks.
**About the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge**
Also known as the Woodrow Wilson Bridge or the Wilson Bridge, the bridge is a bascule bridge that spans the Potomac River between the city of Alexandria, Virginia, and Oxon Hill in Prince George's County, Maryland. The original bridge was one of only a handful of drawbridges in the U.S. Interstate Highway System.
**About National Harbor**
National Harbor is situated on the banks of the historic Potomac River, just minutes from the nation’s capital. Featuring 350 acres of waterfront resort space, National Harbor is a destination unlike any other. The harbor is home to 160 stores, 40 restaurants, the Capital Wheel, and the best sunsets in the area.

**The Ride : Detail**
**+++++++++++++++++++++**
For your riding pleasure NoVA CBG presents Thirsty Thursday.
Thirsty Thursday is about trying a solid Medium Level ("B" group) ride in an encouraging, structured environment. We welcome strong Beginner Level riders that are willing to push themselves to become better cyclists.
This is a NO DROP ride so you will not be left behind but you are expected to really try to keep pace. The lead will go no more than 16mph and other organizers/helpers will attempt to "fill the gaps" as we ride.
This is a mostly flat ride from Jones Point to Fort Hunt. Of course the "price of admission" for this ride is a hill that presents itself as soon as we enter the neighborhood across the GW Parkway... we have named it "The PUNISHER". If you successfully climb that hill, you are officially a CBG "B" group rider.
Once we get to Fort Hunt we will do laps (or you can rest) for a bit before heading back the way we came.
If you normally ride faster than 15mph you are welcome to practice your "keeping pace" skills. If you've done this ride at least once before and have the route loaded on a Bike navigation computer (Garmin, Wahoo, Etc...) or the RidewithGPS app there is also an "A" group version that you can sign up for (aka Very Thirsty Thursday) that rides independently and faster.

**Ride Level Chart**
**+++++++++++++++++++++**
NoVA CBG tries to accommodate all levels of cyclists by offering different types/levels of rides. We just ask that you come to the ride that suits your current riding ability the best.
* Introductory Level: If you haven't ridden a bike in a number of years (or are uncertain of your abilities on a bicycle).
* Beginner Level: You can ride for 10+ miles at a pace of 10+ to 12+ mph with potentially minor hills involved.
* Medium Level: You can ride for 20+ miles at a pace of 13+ to 15+ mph with potentially moderate hills involved.
* Advanced Level: You can ride for 20++ miles at a pace of 15+ mph with potentially major hills involved.
Both Medium and Advanced Levels might require handling various challenges such as reading cue sheets, using a Garmin or navigation app, night riding, out of town travel, or any other odd cycling situations.

**The Ride: Detail**
**++++++++++++++++++++**
Welcome to The Koffee Klatch! These rides are normally based off the Arlington Loop, but in our continuing effort to explore new routes and venues this ride is on the western side of the I-495. We will do a 19.8 mile medium level ride at a social pace (11-13 mph). You are not required to drink or even like coffee.
We will start from Eakin Park (Tobin Rd) on the Fairfax Cross County Trail (CCT) and ride clockwise through the Fairfax area and to the intersection of US 29 and Main St to Haraz Coffee House. We then go through FFX City and connect again with the CCT at Blenheim Blvd which will take us back to the start.
**GRAVEL NOTE:** About 1.2 miles of the route are unpaved, so skinny tires are NOT recommended. There are two main unpaved sections: a quarter mile of compacted gravel on the Judcial Drive Trail, and a mile of gravel along Daniel's Run. We’ve ridden these sections on 32mm tires without difficulty.
