Night Owl Write Night
Join us for a **casual, low-structure, relaxed** 1.5-hour writing meetup designed for writers who want to connect with others in a supportive, no-pressure environment to come and go as you wish, whenever. Whether you're a poet, novelist, blogger, or write in non-natural languages, we welcome every night owl!
**What to Expect:**
Nothing structured, this is a casual Schelling point for people who happen to write at night. If you are looking for a large group, high-effort, strongly organised event, this is probably not the one for you. If there are new members joining us, we'll start with some introductions, dive into focused writing time on your personal project, and then, optionally, share a short reflection about our writing at the end.
**What to Bring:**
* A writing project
* Something to write with (notebook and pen, laptop, tablet - whatever you prefer)
* A curious mind
**Finding Us:**

BYOBook: non-fiction books presentations and discussion
This is a regular Bring-Your-Own-Book session, where participants share and present to the group non-fiction books they have read.
New members are welcome to attend to listen to and discuss the presentations of others.
Usually a meeting takes around 2.5-3 hours. During this time we discuss 2 different books, roughly 1 hour per book.
Any non-fiction material: a book, documentary, or lecture or a part of it - anything with a title and an author and that contains some coherent ideas. Each presentation includes a summary of a book (15-40 min) and discussion (accordingly).
The meeting will be either in a park or in a coffee shop, on HK side. The exact place to be confirmed with the attendees **by WhatsApp only**. I will / have sent the link to the WhatsApp group, please use the link.
Introvert friendly.
We have people from different countries, so while books can be in any language, the language of the meeting is English.
There is a fee of 20 HKD for the first timers to help funding the Meetup membership needed to run the group.
Do not hit "Attend" if you are not going to attend.
If you RSVPed, but there is anything preventing you from going to the meeting, remember to tell the host as soon as possible and/or update the RSVP - before the RSVP is closed, to give other people a chance to take your spot.
But if you plan to attend, do hit "Attend", please :)))
No-shows are all silently noted with much disapproval and will be removed from the group.
Matcha and Book Swap
**Join us with your favourite books! Meet up with bunch of curious minds. Let’s take a sip and share about what we are reading!**
**During the book sharing session, we will take turns to share about what we’ve been reading. You can also share some excerpts from the book as well. The conversation starts there. Hopefully by learning about others reading interest we can expand our own original reading scope.**
**Later on, we could also reflect and share about our last month’s reading habits and methods etc.**
**Book swap is not compulsory. If you have books to give away, feel free to bring them along and we will be happy to take them for future events.**

Visit Stanley's Tin Hau Temple - 赤柱天后古廟
Hong Kong Sacred Spaces is marching down our "best of" list of places to visit with a classic. The Tin Hau Temple in Stanley is a fan favorite, given how picturesque Stanley village is. There are quite a few temples in the area, as the village (known as [Chek Chyúh - 赤柱](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley,_Hong_Kong) in Cantonese) goes back to the late 17th century. The Tin Hau is the most impressive, founded in 1767 by the notorious naval commander and pirate [Cheung Po Tsai](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheung_Po_Tsai) \- 張保仔\.
The temple also houses the pelt of one of the last tigers killed in Hong Kong in 1942.
Check out the Hong Kong Antiquities Advisory Board's recommendation of the temple [here.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/12e-srG2bdbA-XC0CRfNMxeJTYBhrwE73/view?usp=sharing)
We'll meet at the Admiralty station and catch the Citybus 260 to Stanley Plaza. We can walk to the temple at our leisure.

Civic Park Hike
Join us for 2 loops of the 1.1 mile trail surrounding Civic Park In Reynoldsburg this Thursday (5/7) at 6:30 pm. This is a fully paved trail so no worries about mud after a rainy week. Just come and get some exercise while connecting with others.
Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!
