What we’re about
Welcome to the Toronto Dragon Boating Meetup Group! If you're interested in being on the water and looking to learn about dragon boating, this is the group for you. We organize dragon boat teams, corporate days on dragon boats, and the dragon boat portion of the Canada Day Regatta on Toronto Island. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned paddler, join us for a fun and active way to explore Toronto's beautiful waters and meet like-minded outdoor enthusiasts. Let's paddle together and make a splash!

See all- 2025 Dragon Boat Open House / Try-It EventOuter Harbour DBC, Toronto, ON
The Rusty Dragons community dragon boat club is inviting the public to come to our Spring Open House event to hear about the sport, our club and our teams, and go for a spin in one of our dragon boats.
The event is FREE! Don't miss your chance to give it a try.
Our paddlers generally range in age from 25 to 70, and anyone can participate even if they don't consider themselves fit or have any sport experience. We are a community-level club inviting anyone of any age, gender, or fitness level. It's a great way to meet new friends (the boat holds 20 paddlers) as well as see lots of birds and animals on the scenic Outer Harbour nestled between Tommy Thompson Park and Cherry Beach. Our oldest paddler was 84 years old! Yes, you can do it.
See our Open House webpage for more details. No registration is needed, but you can help us estimate attendance numbers by either registering here in MeetUp or sending us an email to Info@RustyDragons.ca as detailed on the webpage.
Bring a friend, co-worker, or family members as well.
If you want more, we have many team options for you...
We have general mixed-gender teams such as the Flying Dragons, Strokes of Luck, We Will Rock You, and Liberty Waves, who train once a week. We also have a more competitive team, Barracudas, that trains twice a week (and they are also accepting new members with no experience). Ignore the team names and just look at their schedule and cost. All teams are non-profit. See www.RustyDragons.ca and then click on the "Teams" drop-down menu at the top of the page to see full team details and register (if ready). Note that you can register now (if you see a possible match) and pay later after the first practice or two. Teams are capped at 24 paddlers, so don't miss the boat.
The use of paddles and lifejackets is provided to everyone. This is a very safe sport as the 40-foot-long boats are very stable (unlike canoes and kayaks). This is why they are great for anyone to try.
We also support a Mixed Ability team (Special Olympics-type team) as well as a prostate cancer team (Butts in a Boat) for any men diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Message Tim@RustyDragons.ca or use MeetUp messaging if you have any questions.
*** NOTE: If you cannot attend this event on this date, don't despair! Email Info@RustyDragons.ca, and we can help you choose a team to attend their first practice >>> Flying Dragons (Thursday, May 8th at 7 PM), We Will Rock You (Tuesday, May 20th at 5:45 PM), Strokes of Luck (Saturday, May 10th or 17th at 10:30 AM), and Barracudas (Monday, May 5th at 6:45 PM or Thursday, May 7th at 6:45 PM).
