NYC Networking & Social Event
Get tickets at: [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/679734583437](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/679734583437)
**WHAT IS A SECRET NETWORKING EVENT?**
This event is for those who want to network for business or just want to come out and socialize. Whether you are an entrepreneur, small business owner, business professional or just someone who wants to meet new people, this event is for you! It's the perfect opportunity to get away from your desk, have some cocktails and network with potential business partners, investors, industry professionals and new clients.... Or make some new friends! We've witnessed countless business connections and friendships form at our past events. We'd say about 70% of the crowd is usually single so it can be a great place to meet someone special as well. A Secret Networking Event is a revolutionary new event that is changing the way people network in NYC. It is a fun and easy way to connect with others in a relaxed, low pressure environment.
**SECRET SYMBOL**
After you sign up we'll send you an email with a list of different industries and interests to choose from. Each industry/interest will have a different "secret symbol". This secret symbol will let the other event attendees know what industry/industries you're in or what topic/topics you're interested in. Once you select what industry and/or topics you're interested in you'll be directed to a page with printable paper bracelet templates with your secret symbol on them. You can select one industry or multiple industries or topics. If you don't have access to a printer you can simply draw the secret symbol/s on the back of your hand with a marker or pen before arriving at the event.
For example... those in the tech industry might have a triangle as their secret symbol... those in the real estate industry might have a square as their secret symbol... those single and looking to potentially meet someone special might have a circle as their secret symbol... those interested in crypto might have a lightning bolt as their secret symbol, etc. Then you simply show up at the venue at the listed start time and get started meeting people.
**\*\* EVENT LOCATION IS LISTED ON THE EVENTBRITE PAGE \*\***
*\* QUICK NOTE: THIS IS A MULTI-MEETUP GROUP EVENT. 25 OTHER GROUPS HAVE ALSO BEEN INVITED SO WE'LL BE SURE TO HAVE A GOOD SIZE TURNOUT. THE RSVP LIST ON MEETUP ONLY REFLECTS A SMALL PORTION OF ACTUAL ATTENDEES.*
*An email we received about one of our recent events: "Thank you so much for throwing such a great event. The crowd was really great and everyone was super friendly. As a busy professional I don't get that much time to get out and meet people so it was nice to be in such a relaxed environment. Event well done!" - Danielle, NYC*

2. ARE A BEGINNER
3. ARE A FIRST-TIMER or
4. HAVEN'T attended in more than 6 months
**6 Indoor hard courts**
The fee is per session. Included in the meetup: tennis, balls & snacks.
What better way to spend an evening than to be with people with common interests, playing tennis and meeting old and new friends. It's a melting pot of wonderful cultures. You will play friendly and yet competitive matches. Off the courts, you will meet people and be engaged in conversations in a relaxed and congenial atmosphere.
If you are new to Tennis Buffs, please be sure to answer the survey so I know how to match you up with other players in a doubles game. You can choose to play as many hours as you wish.
**GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS**
**RESPECT FOR SPACE WE SHARE**
Please pick up after yourself when you finish eating. It spoils the environment for everybody else while they're sitting out and socializing during their off hour, sharing the same area. It's nice to have respect for the space we all share. Please help me, as I'm juggling many things to create a fun evening for everyone.
**BALLS ON COURT**
A friendly reminder, please find the 3 balls that you played with and place them by the net for the next group of players. Often people cannot find the balls or they are mixed in with old balls, not ones from the night's party.
**HAND BALLS TO SERVER**
Be considerate and wait for the server or the partner to turn around before sending balls over the net. It's safer, saves time and just good court etiquette.
**BE SUPPORTIVE OF YOUR PARTNER**
Every once in a while we need to be reminded that we keep a positive attitude on the court. People come for the enjoyment of the game and to meet other people in a social setting. Please be a sportsman and be supportive of your partner. It isn't fun for anyone on the court to see discontent being shown through facial expressions, body language or even scolding. Let's keep the parties fun and enjoy the evening.
Look forward to meeting old and new friends at the next parties!
**Thanks,**

BROOKLYN Smutty Book Club - The Long Game by Rachel Reid
The book for February is **[The Long Game by Rachel Reid](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58939872-the-long-game)**! Recommended by Maria and voted on by everyone, because why wouldn't we keep reading Shane and Ilya's story? Thank you to everyone who came out to January's book club. And thanks to Paddy for making us fabulous Heated Rivalry themed drinks. I think I'm still drunk on blueberry vodka. And Elizabeth did an amazing job on our Harlequin 69 hockey jerseys! Thank you!!!
Quick housekeeping note: Someone has been using the name of Smutty Book Club and its organizers to invite people to for-profit events. **If you receive any solicitation for an event or receive communication outside of Meetup, asking for money - it is a scam.** Please let us know if you see anything suspicious.
Ok back to **[The Long Game](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58939872-the-long-game)**! [Here's what the publisher says: ](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58939872-the-long-game)
*To the world they are rivals, but to each other they are everything.*
*. Ten years. That’s how long Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been seeing each other. How long they’ve been keeping their relationship a secret. From friends, from family…from the league. If Shane wants to stay at the top of his game, what he and Ilya share has to remain secret. He loves Ilya, but what if going public ruins everything?*
*Ilya is sick of secrets. Shane has gotten so good at hiding his feelings, sometimes Ilya questions if they even exist. The closeness, the intimacy, even the risk that would come with being open about their relationship…Ilya wants it all.*
*. It’s time for them to decide what’s most important—hockey or love. It’s time to make a call.*
[https://www.romance.io/](https://www.romance.io/) gives [The Long Game](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58939872-the-long-game) a steam rating of five out of five - "Explicit and plentiful"
The book for each month is chosen at the previous book club. So please come with your suggestions!
Please note: Paddy's of Park Slope serves plenty of drinks, but does not serve food. They welcome people to bring in food, or order in.

The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett
WE ARE MEETING IN THE SECOND FLOOR OF BROOKFIELD PLACE AT THE TABLES TO THE LEFT OF "CLEAN MARKET"
HUGO AWARD WINNER • WORLD FANTASY AWARD WINNER • NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A Holmes and Watson–style detective duo take the stage in this fantasy with a mystery twist, from acclaimed author Robert Jackson Bennett
“Like an endearing fantasy version of Knives Out . . . A great murder mystery is hard to pull off but Bennett structures his perfectly, and the fact that it’s in a fantasy setting only makes it better.”—T. J. Klune, The New York Times
LOCUS AWARD FINALIST • EDGAR AWARD NOMINEE
A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: The New York Times Book Review, NPR, Elle, BookPage
In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible.
Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. Rumor has it that she wears a blindfold at all times, and that she can solve impossible cases without even stepping outside the walls of her home.
At her side is her new assistant, Dinios Kol, magically altered in ways that make him the perfect aide to Ana’s brilliance. Din is at turns scandalized, perplexed, and utterly infuriated by his new superior—but as the case unfolds and he watches Ana’s mind leap from one startling deduction to the next, he must admit that she is, indeed, the Empire’s greatest detective.
As the two close in on a mastermind and uncover a scheme that threatens the Empire itself, Din realizes he’s barely begun to assemble the puzzle that is Ana Dolabra—and wonders how long he’ll be able to keep his own secrets safe from her piercing intellect.
By an “endlessly inventive” (Vulture) author with a “wicked sense of humor” (NPR), The Tainted Cup mixes the charms of detective fiction with brilliant world-building to deliver a fiendishly clever mystery that’s at once instantly recognizable and thrillingly new.

Deconstructing the Twilight Zone: How 1960s Sci-Fi Predicted our AI Future
Long before we were debating the ethics of **Agentic AI** or the security of edge systems, **[The Twilight Zone](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Twilight_Zone_(1959_TV_series))** was exploring these same dilemmas on a black and white screen.
Between 1959 and 1964, **the popular show served as a speculative sandbox for the postwar technological boom**. It provided a roadmap for both the shining promises and the darker corners of innovation that we are currently navigating in 2026.
It provided early evidence of how humans would eventually interact with complex, connected ecosystems.
Join author and designer **[Arlen Schumer ](https://arlenschumer.com/)**— the creator of **[Visions from The Twilight Zone](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1672049.Visions_from_the_Twilight_Zone)** and the new book **[The Five Themes of The Twilight Zone ](https://arlenschumer.com/product/the-five-themes-of-the-twilight-zone-by-arlen-schumer/)**— as he examines more than a dozen classic episodes that brilliantly anticipated the technological struggles of our own century.

Manhattan Smutty Book Club - Kiss of the Basilisk
This month's book is Kiss of the Basilisk by Lindsay Straub.
Temperance Verus has never been kissed—not exactly ideal for a girl competing in the palace's most closely watched matchmaking ritual. Every year, a select group is invited to bond with the realm's magical basilisks and train in the art of charm, poise, and influence. The prize? A chance to win the prince's favor—and a life of privilege.
Tem expects rules, gowns, and etiquette.
She doesn't expect her assigned partner to be Caspen—the Serpent King, commanding, mysterious, and anything but safe. As he pushes her to unlock the strength she never knew she had, Tem finds herself drawn into something deeper, stranger, and far more powerful than royal approval.
But not all bonds are built for the court, and some secrets are meant to break them.
FYI: Someone has been using the name of Smutty Book Club and its organizers to invite people to for-profit events. **If you receive any solicitation for an event or receive communication outside of Meetup, asking for money - it is a scam.** Please let us know if you see anything suspicious.
Please join us at Cornerstone Tavern, 961 2nd Ave, New York, NY (51st and 2nd) for great conversation, laughs, and friendship. Look for our signs, and listen for the laughter.
