- Bob Dylan & Bob VylanLittle Man Coffee, Cardiff
Have a listen to this month's albums and then join us at Little Man Coffee for a (very) informal discussion about them!
At the last meetup we selected a year at random between 1960 and 2004 to help select this month's older album - for July, the year is 1975. As always, our other album is a release from within the last year. After Adam suggested Bob Vylan for the new album, when it came to picking an album from 1975 we couldn't resist choosing:
Bob Dylan: Blood on the Tracks (1975)
"Musically, the overall mood is relaxed and melodic, with the all-out rock or country influences giving way to a rhythmic, acoustic style - strummed guitars, harmonica, organ and bass. Lyrically, though, the changes are drastic. If Planet Waves was a collection of love songs, Blood on the Tracks is a collection of songs about love, treated with cynicism, understanding and dry humour." (The Guardian)Bob Vylan: Humble as the Sun (2024)
"Bob Vylan have cemented themselves as one of punk’s most vital voices. Their last album, 2022’s 'Bob Vylan Presents: The Price of Life' hit the Top 20 on the album charts and in that same year, the duo won the first-ever MOBO for Best Alternative Act. And they’ve done it all while remaining independent, releasing music on their own label, Ghost Theatre. The temptation could have been to dull the edges but, thankfully, Bob Vylan aren’t entertaining the idea of backing down. Their latest record ‘Humble As The Sun’ broadens the duo’s musical scope, blending punk, hip-hop, rock, grime, rap, trap, drum and bass and electronic influences."
