Our Meetups give you the opportunity to meet with instructors and students so you can learn about all the great professional training we offer here.
Learn practical, high demand skills. We offer 28 professional certificate programs and nearly 400 courses in five distinct areas: Technology, Education, Bioscience, Design, and Business. Visit our beautiful Santa Clara campus building or take online courses. Since we offer open enrollment and new courses start all the time, there's always something new for you. Most of the courses are taught evenings and Saturdays.
International students are welcome and have the opportunity to pursue internships and temporary paid jobs (OPT).

As a professional, your life is full of improvisational situations where you are called to think, listen, and speak on your feet with colleagues, management, customers, and strangers, as well as in interviews or networking events.
In a series of fun games and activities, UCSC Extension communications instructor Craig Harrison will introduce you to concepts and strategies that help you navigate unscripted situations with confidence and put others at ease in the process. You'll learn unique strategies and tips for you to confidently excel in these situations while being yourself!
Learning Outcomes
- Develop skills and a mindset to improve your presence in different conversational environments
- Apply curiosity, compliments, and rhetorical questions when meeting strangers
- Employ the power of asking questions to draw out others, and identify commonalities and differences you can converse about
- Rate your current listening skills and apply new approaches to become a great listener
- Practice professional techniques for initiating and disengaging from conversations
- Employ the power of politeness and demonstrate a touch of class in your conversations
- Receive resources for further developing your improvisational confidence and phraseology for professional conversational situations
Craig Harrison has taught for UCSC Extension since 2000 on topics including credibility in the workplace, listening skills, meetings management, positive political skills, and storytelling in business. He currently teaches Business Communications, an eight-week elective in the winter and summer quarters.

Join Michael Carmine, career engagement specialist, in an interactive workshop to learn what to include in your resume when applying for a job in the U.S.
You'll acquire new skills and techniques to enhance your resume writing and learn how to use resumes in the job search process. This is an excellent session for entry-level candidates. Please note: We will not review individual resumes during this event.

At the event, companies working in AI, HCI, Games, NLP, and VLSI will meet with talented UCSC students with training and expertise in these areas.
UCSC’s Silicon Valley Campus community includes Baskin Engineering graduate students as well as early and mid-level career professionals in top technology certificate programs. The event will also be open to UCSC undergraduates and alumni.
