Conestee Nature Preserve Memorial Day Walk

Details

  • Join us on Memorial Day as we honor those who served and at the same time support Conestee Nature Preserve with donations. The preserve was, as many neighborhoods, hit hard by Hurricane Helene. The Upstate Pathfinders Meetup Group conducts the walk!
  • We are the Upstate Pathfinders Volkssport Club, a not-for-profit club providing 11 interesting walks, available daily, at your pace, in many different locations throughout Greenville, SC. We provide turn-by-turn instructions. We are a part of the America's Walking Club (aka American Volkssport Association), a nonprofit organization that sanctions Volkssport events in the U.S. The America's Walking Club offers outdoor organized activities (walk, bike, swim) for everyone, regardless of age or physical condition. Seniors and minors (even in strollers), singles, couples, and families are all welcome. You don’t have to be an athlete to be a Volkssporter!

Supporting the Preserve: Preserve donations of $5-20 are encouraged to assist in repairs needed due Hurricane Helene in September. These will be given to the Preserve Executive Director for use as she sees fit. We will stop to visit the Merch Store as we head to the finish.

Start Point: 840 Mauldin Rd, Greenville. Start in the pavilion area - look for a green sign and banner likely right of the pavilion.

Registration: Register between 9:00 and and 9:30. Walk 5km or 10km with a group or on your own with turn-by-turn instructions. Group walks start very shortly after 9:30. The walk is free for participants and $3 donations are appreciated to offset club insurance costs and Meetup Fees. Cost is $4 for participants who record walk events. Minors are free (Tip: bring the kids or grandkids). Please bring exact change. Our Conestee Preserve trail is shaded. The walk is sanctioned by and is eligible for AVA/IVV credit.

Walk safety: Because this is partly in the woods, group walks should stay together. Hiking sticks are not required but are useful on the non-paved trails. Please carry water. Pets allowed on a leash. Note non paved trails/boardwalks are narrow. Restroom is available at the start. It is almost June, please carry water.

Parking: Park near the pavilion. The lot is large.
