Walks by Water - walking, hiking London

A most wonderful 4 mile walk starting at 6.45pm by walking on the north side of the Thames before crossing Millennium Bridge, walking by Tate Modern then along the lovely scenic South Bank passing The Wheel in Westminster until we cross The Thames at Lambeth Bridge to finish by Tate Britain.

We shall have a drink at the end of the walk.

Based on the best selling book of the same name in which Raynor Winn and her husband Moth actually undertook the famed 630 mile trek around the Cornish,Devon and Dorset coastline in August 2013.

The couple weren't just off for a jolly ramble.

A terrible turn of events led them to losing everything including their home, a Welsh farmhouse that they had lovingly rebuilt and renovated.

With bailiffs knocking on the door Raynor spotted a copy of the Southwest Coastal Path guidebook and saw it as a signpost to freedom.

Money was incredibly tight so they were prepared to rough it throughout and besides all this Moth had just been diagnosed with a rare degenerative brain condition.

So armed with a tent and strictly against doctors' orders they decided to set off on this life affirming and life changing trek......

A most stunning & beautiful 8 to 9 mile walk by Winchelsea Beach, River Brede, River Rother and Rye Harbour Nature Reserve that passes iconic Camber Castle !

Let's go with the flow !

Please only rsvp if you can walk 2.5 miles per hour and you should have adequate and appropriate insurance for this type of activity.

Please arrive by 9am to facilitate the purchase of group train tickets to Winchelsea.

Train ticket : return to Winchelsea

We shall take the highspeed train at 9.40am that arrives at Winchelsea at 10.52am after changing at Ashford International.

Walk will commence by 11am.

Meetup fee £8 payable in cash or £6 by Friday in advance by bank transfer, details supplied upon request.

Please bring packed lunch, water, snacks etc as well as waterproof jacket and walking shoes/trainers or boots.

If sunny: sunhat, suncream and sunglasses.

We shall a drink at the end of the walk in most wonderful historic cobbled Mermaid Street.

We shall aim to take the train back from Rye at 5.48pm changing again at Ashford International.

Climbing Mount Isola within Lake Iseo that affords the most spectacular lake and mountain views or you may prefer to stay on the flat by taking the mountain road

Meet at train station as from 9am :

Train to Desenzano at 9.43am that arrives at 10.06am

5.5 mile walk along the south of Lake Garda to delightful Sirmione that houses elegant shops and boutiques plus beaches so time for lunch, swimming and sunbathing !

Ferry and train back from Desenzano to Verona in late afternoon.

Meet at train station as from 8.45am :

Train at 9.31am : Morning 6 or 7 mile walk by the river and three lakes that surround historical city of Mantua that houses some really fabulous buildings

Train back to Verona at 1.29pm

All these trips plus the delightful architecture, the fine weather, singing on the trains and boat, pizza, pasta and delicious gelato too this promises to be a quite unforgettable adventure !

Please book any hotel in Verona for four nights through booking.com in the coming months and then put a comment on the event page with the name of the hotel.

You could of course arrive a day or two early or stay a few days longer as you wish.

Thursday mid evening Bza flight from Verona or late evening from Venice to Gatwick with Easyjet

We shall be travelling by local trains and buses.

You should be able to walk at 2.5 miles per hour and be prepared to take on some rougher terrain and inclines on the mountain walk.

Walking and hiking in the Great Outdoors presents certain low level risks and by rsvping to this trip you agree to undertake such risks.
