Details

SAFETY FIRST: STAY WARM! The windchills are expected to be extreme. Wear lots of layers (socks, pants, shirt, solid boots and real winter gloves). Consider using a facemask to protect your nose and face. Hypothermia doesn’t make for good observing!

Join us for a special evening of moon-related activities leading up to the total lunar eclipse. Our Observatory will be open and Warren Astronomical Society members will have telescopes set up outside for eclipse viewing, weather permitting. Get the most out of this rare celestial event and enjoy a new show, Eclipses and the Night Sky in the Acheson Planetarium, presentations on the geology and origin of the Moon, space-themed Virtual Reality, make space slime, a discussion on the myths and legends surrounding eclipses, and more. Remember to bring an Earth-friendly bag for stashing your lunar loot!

Dr. Dale Partin will present "The Moon", a review of the moon's natural history and humanity's relationship with our planetary neighbor, at 8:15 PM.

Ken Bertin will present "Syzygy", about different kinds of eclipses and other lineups of celestial bodies in our solar system, at 9:15 PM.

All activities and events are available for an all-inclusive price of: $15 for members, $20 for non-members, and children under age 2 are free. Save money if you pre-register online. Visit our website at https://bit.ly/2LR8VkV for tickets and more information.

Note: Total Eclipse, Total Fun is a snow, rain, ice, cloud-or-shine event; no refunds or credits.

The Science Shop will be offering 10% off all space-related merchandise, with members receiving an additional 10% off.

Expect a crowd and get there early!! The last total lunar eclipse we had at Cranbrook, also in the wintertime, drew hundreds of attendees. Currently we have over 3000 RSVPs on Facebook, so we need all the help we can get!
