Cranbrook Institute of Science Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing
Details
Our friends at Cranbrook Institute of Science are hosting another special event for the Perseid Meteor Shower on Wednesday.
Bring a telescope to share non-meteoric celestial objects with Cranbrook patrons who are waiting for the main event! If you don't have a telescope but would like to help, we could use 3-4 people to help safeguard the scopes.
You don't have to stay the whole time, but if you are volunteering we would appreciate it if you could stay until 11 - we're expecting a big crowd.
Please contact us at board@warrenastro.org if you are interested in bringing a scope or volunteering to help us run ours.
If you aren't able to volunteer but would like to attend the event as a visitor, get all of the information and sign up here: https://science.cranbrook.edu/visit/events/2026-08/perseid-meteor-shower-viewing
Note that the pre-sale discount ends Monday at noon!
Information about the event included below for your reference.
Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and celebrate summer against the backdrop of the Perseid Meteor peak!
The Perseids provide one of the best shows for stargazers in the Northern hemisphere as debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere.
This year’s event aligns with the new moon, which will offer dark skies and excellent viewing conditions. The greatest number of meteors will fall from midnight to dawn.
