About us
Westbank Real Estate Investors is a local real estate investing community serving Greater New Orleans and the Westbank.
Our vision is to create a real estate investor ecosystem where members can attend free meetups, access practical resources, and accelerate progress to their next level of investing. Whether you are working on your first deal or your 1,001st, this group is designed to bring people together to meet, teach, learn, and share with others who can help move them closer to their goals.
The group was founded by Emile Hurst Jr. in 2019 and, after a brief pause during Covid, was relaunched in 2021 with Stephen Keighery becoming a co-organizer and leading community growth and marketing. The group meets monthly, with Emile interviewing local investors who share real-world experience with the group.
Our meetups are free to attend and are built around:
• Real conversations, not sales pitches
• Local operators doing real deals
• Open networking across experience levels

Why This Meetup Is Different
The Westbank Real Estate Investors’ normal 2nd Thursday meetup conflicts with Mardi Gras parades this month, so we needed a new time and venue. The St. Bernard Parish Real Estate Investors invited us to collaborate at their meetup, and we saw this as the perfect opportunity to bring back one of the most requested stories from the Westbank Real Estate Investors archives - this time with a full update.

In 2023, Mike spoke at a WBREI meetup and broke down how he used house hacking as the foundation to build a real rental portfolio and long-term real estate career. We never got that talk on video, and a lot has happened since then.
So we’re doing it again - properly.
Since that original talk, Mike has transitioned full-time into real estate and is now actively operating across multiple parts of the business, including:
- Rental property ownership
- Property management company
- Flipping and BRRRR projects
- New construction
- Residential sales as a licensed Realtor
