Catskills: North/South Lake - Definitive Fall Hike - 14-year Hiking Series

Details

Some say this is the definitive Fall hike.

Features - Views- Views - Waterfall, Lake - Views N More

Please join us for a moderate-to-strenuous hike along the southern portion of the Escarpment Trail. Hiking experience is required.

Everyone will start on the wait list and I will wait a day or two before filling out the list. Please check in with me if this is your first event with the group - I need to know that a 10 plus mile hike is within your comfort zone.

There is a 14-person limit to stay within local area compliance.

Spots will go to those with a solid history of attendance.

The hike starts from the trailhead at Schutt Road (just outside the gate for North/South Lake State Park).

Can call or text - (914) 772-5230

Distance: 9.99 to 11.5 miles -depending on the final route

Trail Map: North Lake Area, Catskill Trails (NY-NJ TC Map#40).

Trip Highlights: (Depending on the final route) - Laurel House Site, Sunset Rock, Inspiration Point, Kaaterskill Hotel Site, Split Rock, Boulder Rock, Catskill Mountain House, North Lake, Artists Rock, Badman Cave, and observation Tower for Kaaterskill Falls

The Mountain House and surrounding scenic overlooks of Inspiration Point and Boulder Rock was touted as America's first amusement park, where the great artworks of the Hudson River school of landscape painting originated. The North Point / Escarpment Trail / Artist's Rock / Sunset Rock path is the heart of the Catskills that prompted the eloquence of James Fennimore Cooper, Washington Irving and Thomas Cole. They say if you have only one hike in the Catskills, make it this one. The autumn colors should be in full bloom, and the views will be magnificent.
