• Los Gatos Turkey Day Ride Potluck C/INT/8mi/1800ft
It's a pot luck with 1,500 of your closest friends! Walk or ride up with all the finger foods and beverages you can carry. Great time to test an e-bike. Expect lechon, turkeys, full keg, and more. You'll be home by noon. Invite your friends. Get to the Kennedy trail head by 7 AM for parking. Otherwise, a large group leaves from Summit Bikes Los Gatos at 8 AM. Besides food and beverages, cups, utensils, plates would be helpful. Also bring trash bags. MidPen will take those down for us. A few riders should head up early to secure a spot. Highly portable tables would be a bonus. If you're unfamiliar with the trail, it's 4 miles and 1,800 feet of fire road climbing. Plus a few more miles from Summit Bikes. West Coast Mountain Bikers Don't forget to follow us on: Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/westcoastmtb Instagram @westcoastmtbers

  • Black Friday at Skeggs
Work off some of that stuffing with a fast and fun ride at Skeggs. We'll choose the route on the day of, but expect 14 miles and at least 2600' of climbing, some of it very challenging. NOT a beginner ride. Pace will be hard and fast, stopping when needed and at junctions to make sure everyone is safe and together. One longer stop to snack and bullshit about bikes and favorite cranberry sauce recipes. If you've not been to Skeggs before, some of the downhills are technical rock gardens but not extremely steep. Some of the climbs are technical and most are exhausting. In other words, tons of fun! Wheels roll at 8:30 sharp so we can ride and yet have plenty of time to indulge our worst consumer instincts. • Tis the season to climb Coe Ride
DATE STILL TO BE LOCKED DOWN! Trail Difficulty - Intermediate skill ride featuring longer steep climbs and narrow loose descents on single track trails. The thing about Henry Coe SP is that you have to earn every last bit of the descents. We start with a fairly easy amount of climbing as we head towards middle ridge trail. That's when we get to our first fun descent, about 1600ft over 3.5 miles. Then it's a bit of a steeper climb on Poverty Flat Rd to Blue Ridge. Then we follow the creek on Narrows trail toward China Hole trail via Mahoney Meadows and Lost Spring trail. China Hole trail is where we pay for all our adventures. It starts out with a nice little downhill section before pointing up... all the way up. We'll climb from the creek at the bottom of the canyon at about 1100ft to the headquarters at 2700+ft over about 4.5 miles. This is where that C pace will settle in I'm guessing. This isn't a ride for the new rider or folks that don't like climbing at least a little. That said we are going to have some pretty good sections of flowy and fun descents or rolling terrain. Also, it's worth noting that the views from the ridges in Coe are pretty much impossible to beat anywhere in the Bay Area. To take a look at the proposed route check here... https://www.strava.com/routes/16135186 Parking is $8.00 per vehicle at the headquarter so bring cash in case the HQ isn't open. Also, the drive takes longer than most expect so give yourself time. I'll make sure I'm early enough to not have a repeat of last time... :) NOW THE NITTY GRITTY... Ride Title / Intended pace (physical difficulty) / Trail difficulty / Rough Mileage est. / Elevation est. Ride Title - pretty self-explanatory. This is whatever the ride leader wants it to be. Intended Pace - this is how physically difficult the ride will be i.e. C-Easy / B-Moderate / A-Fast / Race. C pace = Easy, new riders or those getting back in shape. More social ride with lots of breaks and regroups. Able to ride 1-2 hours with breaks B pace = Moderate, not breaking records but comfortable pushing yourself. A few breaks and regroups. Able to ride 2+ hours with minimal breaks. A pace = Fast, comfortable pushing your limits both up and down the trail. Very few breaks. Able to ride 2+ hours with no stops. Race pace = self-explanatory… This is for races or “training” rides. No breaks. If a training ride there will be a lead and sweep that both know the intended route. Trail Difficulty - this is where riders will get an idea of whether or not they are ready for the ride. IMBA rates trails from Easiest to Extremely difficult depending on various factors. Many of the trails in our area would rank somewhere in the “easy” to “very difficult” ratings, however, an easy trail does not mean it will necessarily be easy for a new mountain biker. The IMBA trail ratings assume a certain level of experience is present in the riders. For riders starting out in the sport, even an “easy” trail may seem intimidating. New Rider - Easiest (IMBA White Circle ◯ ) Example: Los Gatos. Trail BEGinner - Easy (IMBA Green Circle ⬤ ) Examples: Fremont Older, St Joseph’s Hill INTermediate - More Difficult (IMBA Blue Square ■ ) Example: John Nicholas Trail ADVanced - Very Difficult (IMBA Black Diamond ◆ ) Examples: Santa Teresa, Skeggs, Demo Ridge, Wilder (enchanted loop) EXPert - Extremely Difficult (IMBA Double Black Diamond ◆◆ ) Examples: UCSC, Pacifica, Demo Braille, Northstar NOW THE NITTY GRITTY...
