What we're about

Women In Tech Birmingham will meet up regularly to support, empower, and promote women in the tech industry.
It's well known that women are underrepresented in tech:
- Just 19% of those working in technology in the UK are women.
- Only 15% of students taking computer science A-level courses are female.
- Only 5% of leadership roles in the technology sector are held by women.
- The gender pay gap is 9.6%

\

This needs to change.
\

Women In Tech Birmingham wants to:
- Support, encourage and inspire each other. We want to give everyone the confidence to achieve what they want in their careers.
- Challenge the stereotypes that discourage women from studying and applying for job roles in STEM.
- Fight the challenges that women in tech face every day.
- Promote gender equality in the workplace.

Climbing Social

Depot Climbing Birmingham

Fancy swinging across the ceiling like Spiderman, or slowly tip-toeing your way across a wall on holds the size of a 50p? Whether you've never thought about climbing before, or you're a bouldering devotee, come along with us for a fun weekend social at the climbing gym!

No prior climbing experience is necessary and there are climbs suitable for all fitness levels.

The organisers will be around in the café/reception area from 10:15. If you arrive later than 10:30 that's absolutely no problem, we'll send out some contact numbers just before the event so drop us a message when you arrive and we'll meet you at reception. Feel free to arrive/leave whenever suits you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Key Information:

If you have never climbed at Depot before you'll need to fill out a short health and safety questionnaire (this can be done before you arrive). Details can be found on their website: https://www.depotclimbing.co.uk/birmingham/waivers-2/

Day entry costs £11 + £3.50 for shoe hire. There will be a very limited number of places available for no entry cost as those with memberships at Depot are able to bring 1 person for free. This will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please message the organisers if the entry cost will be a barrier to you attending! If you have a membership and are able to offer a free place, please let us know.

Feel free to message the organisers if you have any questions - both of us have been bouldering for years so can provide a bit more information about what it's like.

Intro to Tech Careers

Alpha Works

Join us as we learn about some of the careers of our fellow Women In Tech.

We'll be exploring some of the different roles within tech, what a typical day looks like, what our members think is the best part, how they found their way into tech, and more!

We will have the following talks:
Jacinta Nnadi - Software Developer
Ravneet Shah - CTO
Kathryn Lupin - Delivery Manager
Manisha Jhitta - Operations Manager
... and more!

The event kicks off at 6pm and we will start the talks at 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided and there will be time at the end to network with each other.

As always, we ask that all attendees abide by our Code of Conduct. Please give it a read before the event:
