Join us for one of my favorite events in New Orleans! The French Quarter Festival celebrates the music, food, and culture of New Orleans. Most performances and activities are free! There are plenty of food options for purchase at stands where the action is, or you can choose from hundreds of restaurants (we can make reservations in advance, so they are not sold out). I have two bedroom and one bedroom suites reserved at Wyndham La Belle Maison, a few blocks from the festival - easily walkable. The price of this Meetup is for five nights, and you will have your own room to sleep in (the choice of room is given in order of who signs up first). Meals and airfare are not included. There is a VIP pass that could be purchased at the festival for $400 (or $375 in advance), that includes covered areas near each stage, with seating (tables, chairs, and sofas), snacks and a lunch buffet, two drinks per day (it is a four day pass), free chair massages, and other gifts left out on the tables by sponsors of the event! You can drive or fly (I will be flying), but there is a nightly valet parking fee if you choose to drive. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope you can join us!
Meet Mardi Gras' biggest rival: Fantasy Fest. This annual event, taking place the week preceding Halloween, is the party of the year and not to be missed! With a new theme every year, the festival is filled with costume competitions and themed parties, fundraisers for big causes, body painting, and parades.
The unofficial kickoff party begins with Goombay Festival, a 2 day street party which celebrates Bahamian food and culture. Next up is the can't miss Royal Coronation Ball where the Fantasy Fest king and queen are crowned.
Costume contests continue throughout the week including the annual Headdress Ball, Pet Masquerade, and Pretenders in Paradise. A procession through the streets of Old Town Key West, called the Masquerade March, is where everyone is welcome to join in the costume madness and fun. The last Friday includes a street fair along Duval Street featuring food, artisans and libations. There are various theme parties at local establishments that you can view here: http://www.fantasyfest.com/ so you can pack accordingly!
The Galleon Resort and Marina is in a prime location right near the heart of the action. We have a two bedroom suite with two full bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. The price of this Meetup is for seven nights, two per room (does not include meals, tickets for anything we may choose to see, or airfare). Our suite would be $900/night during this week (we asked the resort last time), and regular hotel rooms are in the $600/night range, but I'm offering this for only $700 per person for the whole week. If you can't stay for the whole week, it is still the same price, because you are really getting a huge discount. If you want to pay for an extra spot to have your own room, add a +1 where it asks if you are bringing any guests when you reply. If you would like to have a friend share your room, you can also add a +1.
This trip is not for the faint-hearted! The small Island of Key West, Florida, transforms from 7,000 people to 70,000 people this week. There will be walking involved, but the island is only 2.2 miles long, so we managed nicely in the past! I will give you an idea of the costumes required to get into the events we usually attend, such as a toga, tutu, pirate/wench attire, jungle theme, superhero, ghouls, hippie, fetish, etc. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope you can join us!
South By Southwest dedicates itself to helping creative people achieve their goals. Founded in 1987 in Austin, Texas, SXSW is best known for its conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. The event features sessions, showcases, screenings, exhibitions, and a variety of networking opportunities. SXSW proves that the most unexpected discoveries happen when diverse topics and people come together.
I have a two bedroom suite reserved at Club Wyndham, Austin. The price of this meetup is for double occupancy per room. If you do not want to share a room, or if you want to bring a guest to share your room (male or female) add +1 guest when you reply.
I hope you can join us!
I am offering a payment plan for those who are ready to sign up for a trip, but are unable to pay in full. A deposit of $300 is required for me to add your name to the people who are planning to go on that trip. Subsequent payments could be made here by changing your reply to +1, +2, etc., which will allow you to charge the next $300 to your credit card or Pay Pal account. If the balance is less than $300, I will collect it from you in person (cash or money order - no personal checks). Let me know if you have any questions.
