What we’re about
There have been many requests for a travel group, and I will plan many outings that involve day or weekend trips, plus local events. We will focus on activities that our significant others may not be as enthusiastic about as we are. There are many places to explore within driving distance, and some of us may want to travel to far away places with great food, wine and culture. We may even invite the men, at times!
We will have some social events for getting to know each other better, but this group will focus on travel and prepaid events. I will research high quality restaurants, accommodations, and activities, even if it is just for a day trip. I'm not a travel agent, so I am not planning these trips for profit, or to be like a tour group. I'm looking for travel companions who also may not have any, so we can explore the destinations together. For that reason, the focus of this group is to stay together on trips. I'm not booking rooms so everyone can go off on their own. There will be free time, and I will also ask for suggestions in advance for each trip we take, so I can plan the schedule and make restaurant reservations. I want to do most of the planning in advance because these are my vacations too, and I would like to enjoy the time we are there. Many of these trips will be planned around events and festivals, so we have a focus for our trip. While we have free time when we're away on longer trips, we will explore the unique shopping areas of that town, and do some sight seeing. This is an active group, so keep in mind that many trips will involve quite a bit of walking. I look forward to the fun times we will have together!

Since this Meetup group started in 2008, I have had weekends on my boat in the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina scheduled almost every month, until the pandemic. Several people have mentioned to me that they would be interested if I start them again. I don't charge to stay on the boat, but I do require that those who sign up also have signed up for an overnight trip with this group, paid the full posted price for that trip, and will drive the Charleston car pool for this trip (you and I - all trips involving my boat are just for two people). This time, it should be any trip I have posted that takes place from March, 2025 through September, 2025. Then you can RSVP here, and we can decide on things to do this weekend, along with the free Piccolo Spoleto Festival https://www.piccolospoleto.com/.
We will car pool at noon on Friday, have lunch locally, and return by late Sunday. There are various events in Charleston that we have been to in the past, such as tours of homes and gardens, food and beverage festivals, music events, etc., that we will do on future trips to Charleston, if this one does not interest you. That is a photo of my boat on the Meetup home page, and our dock is pictured on this Meetup. You will have your own bedroom and bathroom. The boat will be docked in our slip the entire weekend. You must be physically able to jump on and off the boat, and there will be extensive walking. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope you can join us!
