FLASH:
Got a different day off this week, so re-posting for anyone free on weekdays to swing by. Maps tells me 40 minutes from my 7:00 am departure point, so 7:43 AM sounded about right!
Event:
Join us for a longer hike this time, about 11 miles, on the LSHT as part of our preparation for our camping and hiking event in Hot Springs, AR. The Lone Star Hiking Trail is a nature trail with dirt or rock surfaces with plenty of shade from the forest trees.
Trailhead #4 can sneak up to you if you're coming from the south, but it's easy to circle back if you've never been there before. Usually plenty of parking. No facilities, so plan a pit stop as needed.
Bring water, sunscreen and insect repellent and a poncho or umbrella in case of rain. Walking sticks a good idea since the trail can have "features". I have spare if you want to borrow some. Driving shoes are a good idea, too!
I am open to suggestions at any point as well; no ego is invested in the route! As is, should be around 3.5 hours of hiking plus break time with some leeway.
Most of these paths are pretty navigable, but there may be moments off trail, so be sure to have good shoes and be in good enough shape to skirt downed trees, handle the summer heat, etc.
As always, speak up at any time if you need accommodations or have any questions. If you are really faster or slower, be prepared to navigate with your own resources.
Caveats: this is not a professional organization, but rather a gathering of like-minded outdoors enthusiasts. No formal responsibilities or liabilities are implied.
Courtesies: Update your RSVP status! Please don't sign up if you are tentative and be sure to cancel if you change your mind. We don't want delays from no-shows. It is totally acceptable to show up (on time) on your own rather than the opposite.
