What we’re about
Start your day with a burst of creativity!
Write & Shine morning writing workshops, retreats, events and online courses are open to everyone, whether you’re new to writing, have some experience or simply want more creativity into your working day. The programme is led by writer Gemma Seltzer who says, "I set up this group because I love meeting and writing alongside fellow writers. I wanted to create a friendly atmosphere for writing, outside of academic or institutional programmes."
Rather than share the work we produce in a Write & Shine workshop, we focus on generating new material and tapping into our imaginations in the morning. The chance for feedback from the tutor and other writers can help improve writing, but for some writers it can damage confidence or hinder creativity. After each workshop, you'll leave with a few pieces to develop in their own time.
We find inspiration from modern life and the seasons, while exploring the craft of writing. Research shows we’re more creative in the morning. When we wake, we’re incredibly sensitive to the sights and sounds of our environment. Join us to discover why this is the best time to think, dream and imagine.
Note: Meetup now charges a transaction fee on each booking, but you can book via our website directly, if you prefer! Learn more at: https://write-and-shine.com/

- Parallel Worlds with artist Heather Phillipson, Tue 30 April (virtual)Link visible for attendees£23.00
PARALLEL WORLDS
Tuesday 30 April (7.15-9am)A workshop with artist Heather Phillipson that will harness dawn's residues and newness. We will tune in to our respective morning environments and the frequencies they conjure. What worlds, lives and oddities might they open onto? 'You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet, still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.' (Franz Kafka)

Not open - The Perfect Shape - morning writing workshop, Thu 2 May (virtual)Link visible for attendees£29.00
THE PERFECT SHAPE
Thursday 2 May (optional writing hour: 6.15-7.15am, workshop: 7.15-9am)Every story, essay and poem has a shape that gives it strength and integrity. How do we decide what it is? In this final session, we'll think about structure in our writing. We'll follow author Jane Alison's example to draw on patterns running through nature for inspiration. We'll look to novelist Cynan Jones' idea that shape should emerge from themes already present within our writing.
This session includes a gentle and optional writing hour before the workshop begins.
