See all- Casual Hike on the Cranberry TrailBrendan T. Byrne State Forest, New Lisbon, NJ
The Cranberry Trail is a handicapped accessible trail going from the ranger station in Brendan Byrne State Forest over to Pakim Pond. It is about 3.5 miles each way. It is mostly cinder and dirt. It goes through upland woods and cedar swamps. We will stop at the picnic tables at Pakim Pond for an extended lunch (30 minutes) before heading back. I'm hoping to see some early spring wildflowers.
Why do I title my hikes as casual? Because I’m not really slow at 22-24 minute miles, nor are my hikes particularly short, more mid-range; but I do take a break approximately every 3 miles and I also like to look at nature, take time for photos, spot interesting things and don’t mind stopping for comfort breaks. I’m in no hurry. If you need to slow down, ask. If you want to go faster, you picked the wrong leader/hike.
Be sure to bring water, even in the cold. I also recommend at least a snack for the break or lunch. Be sure to be prepared for the weather.
Bathroom: There are flushies at the start/finish and at Pakim Pond!
Dogs: I’m neutral. Your well behaved dog is welcome to hike with me at the back of the group. It is YOUR responsibility to determine/confirm that dogs are permitted on a specific trail. If you plan to bring your dog, please note it in the comments such that people who prefer not to hike with dogs are aware.
I drive a dark blue/gray Toyota Sienna minivan. I wear a skirt.
