Modular Synth Lightning Patch Walkthroughs

  • Globe Hall

4483 Logan St., Denver, CO (map)

    39.778065 -104.982552

  • The Modular Synth Lightning Patch Walkthrough - one of the most popular themes from 2016 - is back! Check out photos from last year's event.

It will be a fun evening where up to 10 modular synth fanatics deconstruct patches before your eyes and ears.

**** If you'd like one of the open slots, reply with a comment on the RSVP page https://www.meetup.com/Rocky-Mountain-Synth/events/237318799/

    5 Minute lightning Rounds:

The night of the event each presenter will have 5 minutes to describe their patch. They will make sound and talk in-place from their rigs and use a laser pointer (provided) to point to elements on the big screen.  There will be a timer running on the big screen and I'll be enforcing the time strictly to make sure everyone gets the same amount of time. If they finish early they can take questions up to the 5 minute mark. If fewer than 10 sign up, we'll extend the time for each presenter

Think petting zoo - but with a more structured and educational approach. If you are into modular synths, this should prove educational and inspiring. If you're not into modular synths (yet) this should be sonically interesting and fast paced.

Musical Performance will be by the Carbon Dioxide Ensemble with members Victoria Lundy (Theremin), Tom Lundy (Copper Heart with Dry Ice), and Mark Mosher Live Sampling of Copper Heart with Ocatrack.

    Presenters will:

Prepare a modular patch prior to the event. 3 days prior to the vent, send me up to 5 photos or screen shots of your patch which I will projected on the big screen night of the event. Bring you modular synth. Provide 1/4" stereo outs which will patch into a sub-mixer that runs to the PA. You'll get a mic, a laser pointer, and 5 minutes to talk about your patch. During mingling time, hang out and show people your patches and rigs.

    Everyone Bring Headphones:

After the lightning rounds, there will be time during the 'Mingling' section of the night to visit with the presenters and ask more questions and check out their rigs.

    -----------------

The Carbon Dioxide Ensemble is a collaboration with Thomas Lundy, Victoria Lundy, and Mark Mosher. Founded in 2014, we focus  on live improvisational performance of Musique concrète and have performed at Concrète Mixer concerts 1-6, at the Denver Noise Fest, and at Gates Concert Hall for the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. In this unique act we use the Elektron Octatrack dynamic performance sampler to live sample Thomas Lundy as he manipulates a Copper Heart and other objects which with dry ice. Victoria Lundy accompanies on Theremin. The only audio source for Octatrack other than drum samples is the input from the contact mic on the Copper Heart.

Hi Mark, If there's space remaining, I'd love to present a patch.

My eurorack modular setup has grown immensely (ridiculously, you might say). However, I'm still figuring out how to make the most of it. Hopefully in the future I can be one of the presenters, but for now I'm too intimidated ;-).

Hi Mark, I'd love to take one of the slots and present a patch if there are still a couple slots.

Hi Mark- Do you know if Max can do print-out or jpeg of configurations if anyone wants to do diagrams of their modular patches?? It is hard to follow even with tv cam due to too many wires.

    • Mark M.

Hi Bob. We won't be using a cam. Instead people will take pictures of their patches and we'll project pictures and they'll use laser pointers. Remember the notion during the 5 minute lightning round is to introduce you to the gist of the patch and leaving you wanting more. There is no way you could "grok" most patches in 5 minutes. Then during mingling section, you can talk to each person to get the details of a patch.

I have tentative plans a future meetup on patching more from a sound design perspective.

Hey there, I think this is something I have been searching for. Is any more info available? I am still fresh in the synthesis game and am looking to learn and enjoy.
