What we’re about
ENJOYING NATURE WITH MODERATE EXERCISE
Early morning kayaking, canoeing, and hiking outings for small groups (10 maximum) in the Triangle area (and sometimes beyond). Low key adventures on rivers and lakes with a maximum of Class II rapids. We also hike easy to moderate trails.
We often meet early in the morning to enjoy quiet nature time, but events are also scheduled later in the day with the possibility of overnight trips as well.
All ranges of paddling and hiking experience are welcome. If you don't have your own boat, loaner boats are available on Russ' trips. Each trip begins with a 10-minute safety meeting and introductions.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Our organizers have no special training in outdoor leadership, water rescue, or first aid response. We are a group of people gathering to enjoy nature together. Each member is responsible for their own safety at all times and at all events. If you borrow any paddling equipment, you assume all risk associated with that equipment.
For paddling events, NC law requires every person have a personal flotation device (PFD) and a "sound-producing" device such as a whistle (many PFD's have whistles attached). the law states that all children under 13 must WEAR the PFD at all times while in the boat. We do not require that adults wear their PFD's while paddling, but we highly encourage that you do for everyone's safety.
Dress for the temperature of the water, not the temperature of the air! A change of clothes in a dry bag of some kind is recommended just in case you fall in (unlikely!)
For hiking events, proper footwear is recommended, which means hiking shoes/boots or trail running shoes.
For all events, bring water and consider bringing a snack.
Please reach out to an organizer using the message link on this page if you have questions or comments regarding this group.
