What we're about

Welcome to Canada's largest theatre goers club.

If you like going to plays, musicals, comedy clubs and other arts events, but don't want to go alone ... you will love Thumbs Up!

One of our mandates is affordable theatre. This means we actively seek ticket discounts when possible. We also go to performances where rush and pay-what-you-can tickets are offered.

We also go to non-theatrical events, including concerts, street festivals, walking tours, day trips and many other events.

There are lots of fun get togethers at affordable cafes and restaurants before and after events.

It's FREE to join our group. Check out our schedule of upcoming events: https://www.meetup.com/Thumbs-Up-Theatre-Toronto/events/

Needs a location

Join us for Gem of the Ocean, one part of a ten part series by August Wilson.

THE SHOW: How can we ever come to terms with the crimes of the past? Aunt Ester, the 285-year-old “washer of souls” at the centre of this poetic masterpiece, has an answer. When a young man who is drowning in guilt comes to her door, she sends him on a quest to find the mythical City of Bones. His spiritual journey through history takes place against the backdrop of very real events in the 1904 Pittsburgh of the play. This is the first in August Wilson’s THE AMERICAN CENTURY CYCLE, his legendary ten-play cycle on the African-American experience in the 20th century.

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE: Too True to Be Good ($33 up)

Needs a location

Join us for Too True to Be Good, George Bernard Shaw's 'Political Extravaganza.'

THE SHOW: How to describe a play in which the first character to speak is a microbe? Shaw’s ‘Political Extravaganza,’ written in 1932, foreshadows the insanity that was about to engulf the world. With a cavalier disregard for the unities of time and place, the play takes us on a surreal journey into the heart of the outdated public and private prejudices and errors that would soon be swept away – or would they?

OUR HOST: This event will be hosted by Carol Dunitz, a playwright, composer, lyricist and actor who is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
