Ground school is 5pm to 6pm,, reeportbacks will be 6pm to 7pm and our keynote lecture will be “Rescue at Sea’ from7pm to 8pm. The reportbacks are “Manhattan Circumnavigation” reportback the “Bahamas expedition” reportback Lecture and a new excursion will be a “Gulfstream Beachcat Challenge” and volunteer “work day” project report backs including hobie bravo reverse engineering and cobb oven building, boat ramp, gates etc… what to do this summer with the Club. I will do our keynote lecture on “rescue at sea” and others are encouraged to help or even take the lead if they know better.

SAILING GROUND SCHOOL:

We will teach you the theory of how to sail small sailboats and Catamarans in New York City in the winter safely. We also prepare you for hands on apring sailing instruction the following day. We will also explain how our collective works and how other free sailing schools can be created. This event is in doors with. Bring drinking water and bring food for a pot Luck dinner party if you wish to stay afterwords and bring wine if you like wine if you like (house rules trump FSS no alcohol rules lol.) There are bathrooms and a full working Kitchen available and changing rooms if anyone wants to dress up for the ocasion the theme is inclusivity. LGBT-QA the A stands for Allies (thats everyone else that isn’t LGBTQ)

The next day, Saturday 11am-3pm in our secret Laguardia Airport location (you must come to ground school to find our where) will be boat maintenance and boat repair 11am - 3pm followed by all weekend sailing and camping until Sunday night at 7pm. You can come and go all you want and/or camp out with us on our beach or in our safron tree forest and enjoy until Sunday night!

Sunday 11am to 5pm will be hands on spring sailing in Drysuits SKILLSHARE.

I repeat, you will have to attend ground school and boat maintenance Saturday to sail for free the rest of the weekend. But if you miss either or both you can just donate 50$ to our club and we will give you the secret location as soon as we get the donation electronically still sail anytime saturday 11am untik Sunday 7pm and come and go as you please and/or camp out with us!

We will be at “home beach” rain or shine.

Saturday 11am to 3pm some people will camp out and enjoy night sailing and then sail again Sunday 11am - 7pm.

If you dont know where home beach is you must RSVP by phone call or text message so we know to look for you. We are meeting any new sailors at the duane read entrance just outside of the flushing Main Street stop on the 7 train (the last stop on the train) at 10:30am call or text me if you have questions or to RSVP 313 nin too nin 1o75

We will only be doing maintenance on Saturday (no sailing saturday until maintebance is over) because most people only come to one day of sailing anyways so we require anyone that wants to sail for free Sunday to either volunteer to help with maintence on satirday 11-3pm first. If someone can only come for sailing on Saturday then they can make a suggested donation of 50$ to sail all they want Saturday If they already know how to sail (but we will not be giving doing hands on skillshare Saturday until the work day is over and we have had pot luck lunch 3pm to 4pm) or if someone can only join us for the Sunday hands on skillshare but they cant help us Maintain boats Saturday they can donate 50$ for that also.

If you know our secret fall location you can meet us there at 11am otherwise you can join us in june. No exceptions (unless you ask nicely by phone call in advence ;-))

Free ground school for sailing theory will be on the preceeding Friday, at a NEW LOCATION!!! 5pm to 8pm to in midtown manhattan Once again thats the Friday immediately before this event.

If you miss free ground school you can still come to our sarurday or sunday events but we would reauire a 50$ donation in order to get the location of our secret beach. And please study our Handbook:

Bring drinking water, 2 pairs of shoes that will dry fast (because you will have to stand in a foot of water or more) and bring gloves and sun hat and 3 zip lock baggies for your phone. And once again sunblock!!! Also avoid wearing any cotton clothing or cotton socks because it acts as a sponge. Polyester, nylon and wool are much better materials for watersports.

If it rains it usually doesnt last too long and we can build a tent to work on stuff under It.

Important Update!!!

We are requiring that everyone helps with maintenance on the saturday immediately preceeding this event. if they want free sailimg lessons sunday and atend a past ground school or they can make a donation of 50$ donation. Once again you must attend ground school and volunteer saturday from 11-3pm or donate 50$ to sail Sunday. (Pato members can sail Sunday or any day for free if course without volunteering their time)

One more time incase Youre a CATFISHER… You will be required to volunteer 11-5 Saturday or the equivalent before your lessons or help sustain the club in another way OR when all else fails, donate cash!

You will also be reauired to answer the following questions and sign a waver before we take you out on our beginner boat “The Flushing Meadows Queen” a 12’ O’day Widgeon or our Hobie 14, or one of our Hobie 16’s, or our Prindle 16 for as many lessons as we can cram into one day!

REQUIRED QUIZ BEFORE YOU GET YOUR FREE LESSONS:

1.- What are the two most important directions on a sailboat? And why?

2.- What is the sail configuration for upwind?

3.- What is the sail configuration for downwind?

4.- What is a tack? And how do you tack a hobie cat without a jib? (We dont use jib’s in our school because they make tacking too easy. We want you to be better sailors then everyone else!)

5.- What is a jibe? And how to perform one and what is the danger? And what is the difference between a tack and a jibe?

6.- What is the D.I.Y. Speedometer of the boat and how does it work? (Hint: bubbles) And what is the D.I.Y. apparent wind direction instrument of our boat? (Hint: ears)

7.- What does it mean to be in irons and how do you get out of them on a boat that is difficult to tack? (Beach catamarans without a jib are the hardest boats to tack BTW.)

8.- Be able to draw a diagram of a hobie cat with the following components labled: port, starboard, bow, stern, traveler, main sheet, main blocks, halyard, main sail, downhaul, outhaul, righting line.

We will teach you how to be a competent captain on any boat. As the saying goes you can trust a beach catamaran sailor with a yacht but you can't trust a yacht sailor with a beach catamaran.
