Valheim Server Launch: Become a Viking!

I'm happy to confirm that our private Valheim server is launching later this week alongside the latest update adding all new content to the game.

What is Valheim? So, you are a resurrected Viking spirited away to the realm of Valheim to prove yourself against the enemies of Odin. Together, we will build bases, craft items and do battle against an endless legion of foes. The game is a persistent campaign that could last up to 100s of hours where your success builds up to taking on increasingly demanding objectives.

For our first session, which I encourage everyone to join if you're interested, we'll take our first steps into the world, set up a simple base and maybe take on the first boss.

We will have a 'drop in' session at 7pm each evening where you are encouraged (but not required) to log in. There will be special events such as taking on bosses which will be advertised in advance so you have a chance to join us, if you wish.

How to get started

1. Buy the game on PC or Xbox. The game is currently 50% off on Steam (ending 15th September so don't wait too long).

2. Join our Discord server by clicking here then request the Valheim role in #valheim-chat - this will give you access to all the other details. You don't need to check back here, the important info will be on Discord only.

Apart from that, Discord will be used to coordinate everything and, importantly, for voice chat. You will need to be able to listen to voice chat and I highly recommend purchasing a basic headset with a mic so you can talk back. Because of the sometimes fast paced nature of the game, typed communication isn't practical.

FAQs

Is the game in early access?

The first 90% of the game has completed development, easily providing 100s of hours of gameplay in a very polished state. The last 10% of the game i.e. the ending is coming in the next and final update, meaning that if we start now the update should be ready for when we're ready to complete the game.

Is Valheim a survival game?

Yes and no. It shares some mechanics with survival games like crafting food and building shelters however I don't think this label does the game justice. Valheim is influenced by many different genres and the emphasis is more on creating huge bases and decking your viking out with the finest gear rather than day-to-day survival. If you're not into survival games don't let that put you off.

I don't like fighting monsters can I still take part?

Yes, absolutely. We'll need people to help with gathering building materials, farming, cooking etc. so you can be a part of the team and make a genuinely important contribution.

Do I need a powerful PC?

Not really, the game has semi-retro graphics and runs on even modest PCs and laptops.

I've played Valheim before

It will be really useful to have some more experienced folk around so I encourage you to join us. You should know that this will be a vanilla experience: Standard world modifiers and NO mods - I think this is the best experience for a first play through and also mods would mean people with an Xbox couldn't take part. Additionally, I'm aiming for a 'no exploits' run, meaning that we're going to try our best to not use any cheese methods.

Remember, since the new update has just come out you'll be able to play through the game with any new content added since last time.
